  9. I’ve lived in Germany twice. Once from 1984 to 1988 and again 2004 to 2007. My husband was an Army Apache Pilot. My favorite German treat are these shortbread cookies that are sandwiched with raspberry jam and a cut out.

  11. My mother in law made the most wonderful sauerbraten and it was a family tradition to have it on New Year’s Day. Since her be passing I have used her recipe to continue her tradition and it is a family favorite!

  13. This might be too much information, but I was conceived in Germany. My parents had been married for 7 years and had been unable to conceive and while my father was in the army and stationed in Germany, my mother went there to live for 1 year and surprise here I am.

  19. I have not been to Germany but I’m of German descent. Love saurkraut, especially in the fall. I’m not sure if I’ve had the cookies but I do love spicy cookies…no much chocolate for me. Thank you Pat for filling time during my week. I understand how caring for an aging parent is important to us and we give as much of our time as possible to them. Take care of the care giver as well.

  20. My dad was in the Air Force, so I was lucky enough to live in Germany twice!! Probably my favorite foods would be the German Strawberry ice cream and Schinkenwurst!!

  21. And no, I’ve never been to Germany but my favorite German food would have to be brats and sauerkraut. With mustard of course. And a Ruben sandwich are one f my favorites!

  26. I have never been to Germany but growing up my next door neighbor was a war bride from Germany and I learned many things from her. My favorite German food is German potato salad!
