** FAQ **

  • What is a Fat Quarter? A fat quarter is half of a 1/2 yard of fabric cut WIDE so it is  18" x 20"
  • Can I use fabric that is not a FQ? Sure!
  • Can I use Stash (fabric I own) – Yes!  Pull out a bundle of beautiful fabric
  • Will I use all the fabric – Not all of it. This is to give you variety, more is better!
  • Can you show me the blocks in advance? No, it's a mystery
  • What are the Technique? – All Easy Pieced.
  • NOTE: The Blocks do NOT LOOK like the topic of the week. This is not a pictorial quilt. I do a topic as it is way more fun than just plopping out a block.  I love the memories and sometimes research that goes into the topic.  That keeps my Sew alongs fun and unique.

***Goodies for Someone!***

Leave me a comment by Jan 11 2022 – 6pm est telling me
"Something you love about Brownies!" (I sure hope you love them but if not… oh well!)

Goodies go to Suzanne Y  who said " I love brownies! I do make both box and from scratch. On special occasions I make Cinnamon Brownies with walnuts and topped with chocolate ganache. I have to run now. Going up to the grand babies but will share the recipe on the cooking group later. Have a great day"

  1. I am a chocohalic and love the gooeyness of brownies. Love trying receipes from scratch and the last ones I made from scratch were awesome.

  2. I also love the Giardelli brownie mixes – I love to add additional chocolate chips but I really don’t like adding any nuts. I’m not particular about which pieces I eat – edge or inside pieces – just love them all!!

  3. I like brownies – especially ones with “extras” in them – but not a fan of the edges so much – I like to cut mine from the middle, so no need for the special pan here. Any kind of nuts, pretty much, chocolate chips, peppermint patties, etc. are all good additions. I love chocolate, so…

  4. We love brownies with nuts. It’s always a memory from my youth. Mother always made these with walnuts.

  5. Never had Brownies before. They look yummy and the pan is awesome, never seen that before either. Going to have make them using your tips. Thank you.

  6. I grew up in a home where my mom made brownies with Hershey’s syrup every Saturday night. After church on Sunday, we would gave a house full of people having coffee or milk or juice with their brownie. When my dad took over the cooking/baking he used a box mix. A pan of brownies was made on Saturday until my mom went into a nursing home and my dad passed. My mom is known as Grandma Brownie by her grandkids and great-grandkids.

  7. Harriets Brownies:
    Cake like: 1 cup shortening
4 (1 oz.) squares baking choc. OR 6 Tbsp. cocoa and 2 Tbsp butter
    4 eggs
    2 cups sugar
    2 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp salt
    1 c chopped nuts (optional)
Melt shortening and chocolate and butter. Cool, beat eggs till light, stir in sugar, choc, and vanilla.
Sift dry ingredients, stir into choc. mixture. Add 1 cup nuts. Thick batter…spread into a 13×9 greased pan. Bake 350 for 35 min. For chewy brownies: use 1 Cup flour and 1 cup shortening. This is a very old recipe shared by our family and neighborhood when we were kids. Hope you try.

  8. Don’t laugh, but I like brownies so much that I keep Little Debbie brownies on hands as it is a rare day I don’t indulge in one. My husband prefers blonde brownies but it has been quite a while since I have baked any type from scratch. I’m grateful for box mixes. I have a special recipe for chocolate meringue bars … brownie layer on bottom, meringue layer next, topped with choc chips and ground up pecans on top. Beautiful on a party platter. Yummy tasting. Thanks for the first dessert quilt block today. Think this will be a very interesting quilt sew along.

  9. I love fudgy brownies with no nuts. That pan looks so cool. My family would love that. I am the only one that doesn’t like the edges.

  10. I’m sure I will be dreaming about brownies tonight. I like the center squares, I don’t add nuts but chocolate chips or icing are awesome. I like the recipe on the back of the Hershey’s Cocoa tin. Thanks for the nice sew along.

  11. Love the secret brownie pan- I love edges too!!! My faves have a fudgy texture with dark chocolate chips and pecans/English walnuts and Carmel with a dusting of powder sugar on top!
Sweet Dreams is going to be so fun! Thanks Pat for another cute design!

  12. Hi Pat: Sorry brownies wasn’t one of my favourites until I found a really good recipe and now they are a favrourite. Only problem I’m the only one here…………..
I’m still working on my Summer Soire
Thanks for very thing you do Pat

  13. I love baking…..and chocolate, but surprisingly I’m not a big fan of ‘brownies’. My 13 year old granddaughter who is a chocoholic loves making them and it’s her speciality. Must admit they smell wonderful when they come out of the oven though!

  14. I love brownies! With or without nuts, with or without frosting, edge piece or center piece, doesn’t matter. All brownies are delicious! Also, I like that you showed how you cut your fabrics very frugally so there’s no waste, and love that little design board. I am going to get or make one of those. It will save me a lot of jumping up out of the chair to put pieces up on my big design wall (which is a piece of flannel over a mattress leaning up against my sewing room/guest room wall)! 🙂

  15. I want to enter the browning giveaway. Love the edge pan, will have to get one of those. I use a box mix for my brownies. Chewy with some walnuts or just plain. I love them hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Thanks for all your posts. I’m 69 and really enjoy watching you.

  16. Pampered Chef used to make a brownie pan that made individual brownies. I think I gave mine to my daughter in law – I don’t know if they still make that pan or not. Brownies were the only dessert I made at Christmas because EVERYONE likes them!!

  17. Brownies were the first bakery I made with my youngest grandchildren. I always used a mix so they could take turns adding the ingredients! The last time we made them, I gave them a container to take home. On the drive home (about an hour) the 5 yr old ate most of them! Little Miss Chocolate Face! It was too cute! We just had to laugh!

  18. We like brownies in our house too! I typically make them using the Ghiradelli triple chocolate chip box mix. Sometimes I throw in a handful of white chocolate chips too! The more chocolate the better in a brownie:) Thank you for the great morning videos. This will be the first sew along I’m trying. We will see how I do!

  19. Brownies are delicious! We like them with a scoop of ice cream on top but no walnuts, please.
The fabric you’re using is quite lovely.

  20. I add just a smidge of cayenne pepper. Not too spicy but keeps you guessing. Love brownies and chocolate!!

  21. If you put a warm brownie with ice cream in front of me it would be gone in a flash. I would not even looking up till it was done. Then I would sit back with a smile and thank you with a great big smile.

  22. I love brownies!! My mom used to say, anytime after I was sick, that she knew I was better when I made brownies 🙂 My husband loves the edges and I love the middles.
    No nuts! LOL

  23. I love, love, love brownies! Especially with nuts! My secret is to use cherry wine in place of the water in a box mix! Yummy!

  24. Cheryl Wright
Brownies were the first thing I learned to bake. Chocolate with pecans are my favourite. This also the first thing I taught my children to bake.

  25. Brownies are one of my favorite desserts, with lots of nuts. And the edge pieces are definitely the best part!

  26. We love brownies too! I use a copper brownie pan that makes perfect size brownies because you put the batter in the pan and insert a copper piece that goes into the batter and makes the individual brownies then pop the pan in the oven. When there done you just pop them out! Nice!! Love walnuts in my brownies..

  27. This is where it is. Thank you!!! There will be a brownie pan for the family as there are fights about who gets the edge. Can’t do nuts — darn, — two grands allergic to nuts.

  28. Brownies are a favorite at my house as well – we are all chocolate lovers here lol! No nuts, but fresh gooey brownies still warm are always a hit. And there’s usually a race to see who gets the middles 😉

  29. I love brownies being as how I love everything chocolate. My favorite ones are the ones with chocolate chunks and pieces of walnuts even the healthy ones I made last summer with shredded zucchini in them…just don’t overbake them. I like mine a little gooey in the center. Brownies are just plain awesome, best dessert ever.

  30. Brownies!!! Yummy for my tummy!! I’m not picky, I love all kinds of brownies but if there is an edge I do go for that one first. Notice I said first, lol, yes I will eat more than one. Being from San Antonio, Texas I would say that my secret ingredient is Mexican coco. I will try to send you some. Thank you Pat Sloan, you are the best.

  31. Why I love my homemade Brownies……#1 Chocolate, #2 Gooier yummyness, #3 Nuts, #4 Eat, #5 Repeat. 🤣.

  32. Brownies are my favorite dessert. I prefer them made from the box over made from scratch. I can not say that about other desserts.

  33. I am not a fan of brownies or any type of chocolate cake. These a are a little too rich for me. But I have made them because my family loves brownies. And I love baking for my family and I like the smell that they leave behind.

  34. Love Ghiradelli brownie mixes! Though I found brownies from scratch are almost as simple as from the box. My husband recently had to give up chocolate, so brownies are a treat for parties now.

  35. You can’t go wrong with Brownies!! Chocolate and delicious. Love the mixes and buy when on sale. Better than homemade!! I will eat any piece, but especially love the soft chewy inside.

  36. I love brownies. Walnuts are a must have for me. Fudgy brownies are my favorite. I am excited to join my first sew along. As you suggested, I’m waiting a for a few blocks to be published begin so I know more about fabric placement.

  37. Brownies – I will eat what you don’t, Pat!! I like them gooey, not the sides, and no nuts!! I do love Ghiradelli brownie mix but…NOT as much as I love all that you do and watching your videos!! Thank you!!
