I’m busy making my main studio space more usable… check out my progress AND enter my giveaway!
I give you a BEFORE tour
My main studio space is where I work all the time. It has my projects in progress, machines, computer, and most of my fabric.

About 3pm I started pulling all the projects out of my studio space to resort them and put them into better size container and more effective & productive spots for my use. I did a video for you
For the post part I’m not doing fabric, just projects.
That includes all the different products I review or test. PLUS I had some UFOs in my main space that were not being worked on and taking up valuable work space. They needed to be moved.
Taking it out is EASY.
Deciding how to regroup and where in my studio should it now be, is more difficult. I started when I got up.

For our family business we work at home, so our whole small home has become our office.
We have no basement and no usable attic. So my business takes up 4 rooms in our home.
- My studio is my main work room and what you see all the time. It is the family room of our home, it’s what in the videos with my beautiful Koala Furniture and my Baby lock machines
- The shipping department has one room as his office.
- We have 1 other rooms for quilts, batting, notions, projects not being working on, other fabric, books, etc.
- AND the ‘over flow’ room right now is our dining room as it can’t all fit in the one room upstairs. The photo above is one wall in my dining room. On the wall is my village quilt (BUY the pattern here), and the blocks are from my Triangle book (HERE)
In my studio I keep JUST what I’m working on and my main fabric. On that video I talk about it being messy. It is ‘messy’ in that projects were not in optimum work places, split across areas, and things got put in spots that took up valuable space in my small room
Now for a few photos of my ‘after’

Sorting and also sharing my space with other things from the household that don’t have a home. Things always get put in there because my husband or children don’t want something anymore and don’t want to throw it away. I just really need to get it organized!
I do not have enough space for my fabric. I have been organizing my stash of fabric and patterns. Patterns are easier to organize but fabric is causing me an issue. I am currently refolding my fat quarters, etc and sorting them by color. I was keeping the collection together but was not getting to the original planned project so I decided to sort them color instead. Wish had the space to sort also by holiday.
Organized? Are we supposed to be organized AND make quilts? Actually, I try to stay organized by cleaning up after each project is completed. I will need to make some scrap quilts soon or that could become an organization problem. After our kids all moved out, my sewing took over the lower level family room so I have closets and dressers to at least HIDE whatever is not organized!
Ok I am definitely going to be putting my projects into their own containers. What a fantastic idea. I have 5 or 6 projects going right now and the are just in piles on my cutting table. But some have similar fabrics so I have to be really careful. The idea of separate containers labeled for each project would be great. Thank you for all your great ideas. Keep them coming.
Part of my organization problem has been solved as my hubby shelved my entire closet ceiling to floor. Now my problem is 1. Getting rid of stuff I don’t need. This is hard because you must never know…… lol. 2. Storage units. I need tubs or something to store things by category. My problem is out of sight, out of mind. So I may use clear plastic tubs
I need a bigger room…or bigger house. I’m in the smallest bedroom but I expand to the other two. I have to clean out when company comes!
My organizational problem is fabric – I have more than I have cubby holes!! So it keeps piling around the room. I’ll get there someday……
My sewing space is small, everything is congested, too close together, using dining are. Ironing board & space is in kitchen. Lots of walking from room to room. Fabrics & supplies on bookshelves in living area. Very difficult to work productively & takes a lot of time for any one process.
My biggest problem right now is figuring out where I am going to hide all my stuff. We are building a new house and I don’t want to get rid of anything. I am secretly collecting under the bed boxes!!!!!
My issue is I am trying to combine my mother in laws sewing room into mine. She passed in May and I inherited her sewing room and I don’t have a clue what to do or where to start!
My biggest problem is having TOO MUCH STUFF! We’ve moved into our dream house and I have a large sewing room, but I’ve also accumulated 40+ years of sewing and craft materials. I need to follow your example and organize!
I have so many supplies left over from so many projects. I’m having a problem deciding what I might be interested in doing in the next few years in my craft hobbies.
My problem is the same as yours, projects are spread out and mixed together. I need a better way to keep a project together as I like to work on multiple projects at a time!
Not being able to have everything in one room.
TOO. MUCH. STUFF! love to sew, knit, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch, quilt, machine embroidery etc. Need a way to store the non consumable tools 🙂
My biggest problem is trying to organize all my scraps. I also do many different crafts and have only 1 craft room for all my stuff. I tend to have too many projects going at the same time and then I get very disorganized. Oh, I hate to not be organized and then I end up wasting so much time trying to find things and losing out on precious craft time.
I am a saver…my biggest problem is throwing away little bits and pieces or giving away things that I have not finished!
My biggest problem is too much fabric in too small a room.
I WOULD ADD 2 AIR OF REALLY, REALLY SHARP SMALLSCISSORS FOR THREAD SNIPPING
My biggest organizational crisis is space and being able after my stroke and brain bleed HOW to organize. I’m constantly moving things. If I had a ltittle more space and storage I think I’d do better
I would like a little bit bigger room. And a better way to store my fabric.
I am out of room. I really need to sort fabric and make a dozen scrappy quilts to get my room organized.
My quilting items/necessities are beginning to pour out into other rooms in my home. Its not a problem as I share my space with two cats and they rarely complain. However I want to reduce the amount of stash/ufos that I have so its decision time–what can be donated and what needs to be completed.
My biggest organization headache right now is how to store all the 2nd hand wool coats, jackets, skirts and slacks that I have collected over the years to reuse in felted wool appliqué and to make a patchwork wool stadium blanket type quilt for watching kids’ sporting events. I guess I need to ‘debone’ them and store the wool flat because it’s the bulky items driving me nuts!
My biggest problem is storing my fabrics, I have a small room that doubles as a guest bedroom. I’ve finally reclaimed the room so I’m hoping to get downstairs and start sorting and finding a space for everything
Too much stuff in too small a space! My quilting/crafting space is also my home office space…and while my space is pretty well-organized it just isn’t big enough to accommodate all of my beautiful fabric 😉
As as far are quilting or craft organization goes I think keeping fabric organized in a use fashion will be my biggest challenge. We resently moves so I was able to purge….a lot! Which I now think should be done regularly because it helps, but not all my crafts are unpacked yet so we’ll see how that goes. Paints are another challenge and finically the snack cupboard….it is always unruly:)
I would love a new room!!! I need a bigger room or even a nice big closet would do!
My biggest problem is how to store all my rulers. I can get to them, but sometimes I have to really hunt for the one I want or I keep moving them around and I’m afraid they will fall on my slate floor and break.
So much better than my room. Thanks for sharing
My organization problem is that I can not just be satified where I put things. I’m always reorganizing things to make it easier to get to what it is that I want or need.
My biggest problem is like most space. I have too much stuff and not enough space. I am trying to work on it by making kits for myself from my stash, putting them in a plastic bin or box with everything I need then labeling it. Then when I want to start a project it is right there. Sometimes I get it out and just do the cutting put it back and maybe not get back to it for months.years. Some I will totally finish, it is nice to see my bins empty and then the process starts all over.
Not enough room for all my crafts. It is not just quilting but several other addictions!
My biggest challenge is too many hobbies and lack of space. I can see a trip to the Care & Share store in the near future for crafts I am no longer interested in persuing. Thanks for the tips on storage in rooms other than the sewing area, too. It has been about a year since I reorganized, so think it is that time again. You have inspired me!
My biggest organizational problem right now is how to store the yards and yards of fabric so that I can easily see what I have to work with. This is years of collecting and two moves later that I finally have the space and time to sort through it all. Your video on organizing is very timely!
MY biggest problem is lack of space. I share my sewing/quilting area with my husband’s office.
My biggest issue is I shop. The. I bring it home and all available space is full. So it sits and covers up other things. Any suggestions besides quit shopping haha
My biggest problem is precuts. I have all kinds of strips, charms, and fat quarters, and finding good storage ideas has been my biggest issue.
I have no space to store things.
My biggest organizational challenge is storing fabric (lots of it) so I can find it again. I make a variety of types of quilts-reproduction, kids’ and baby, floral, Kaffe/Free Spirit types. I try to keep similar types together but somehow they manage to ooze into each other and then it takes forever to find what I need to start a new quilt.
I am currently working on a purse for myself. I do find organizing my fabric to be a real challenge.
I would love to have a new iron that pops up and turns itself off after a while. That would be so convenient.
My biggest problem is storing things in a small space.
My biggest problem is how to downsize from a large studio area to a much smaller one and still have room to create!
I love fabric, it’s very hard to decide what to keep and what to give away.
My biggest organizing problem is trying to work on too many projects at one time. Every time I start to clean and organize my sewing room I end up working on a project. I’m just so addicted!
Too much material, too small of an area
768 Ponderosa drive
designating space for each craft, and organizing it so I can get to it easily. without having to dig through.
I am soo past organizing. I have finished 13 queen size quilts this year for the family and I have parts of the leftovers all over. My goal is 15 quilts and to organize the heck out the room for me.
