I’m busy making my main studio space more usable… check out my progress AND enter my giveaway!
I give you a BEFORE tour
My main studio space is where I work all the time. It has my projects in progress, machines, computer, and most of my fabric.

About 3pm I started pulling all the projects out of my studio space to resort them and put them into better size container and more effective & productive spots for my use. I did a video for you
For the post part I’m not doing fabric, just projects.
That includes all the different products I review or test. PLUS I had some UFOs in my main space that were not being worked on and taking up valuable work space. They needed to be moved.
Taking it out is EASY.
Deciding how to regroup and where in my studio should it now be, is more difficult. I started when I got up.

For our family business we work at home, so our whole small home has become our office.
We have no basement and no usable attic. So my business takes up 4 rooms in our home.
- My studio is my main work room and what you see all the time. It is the family room of our home, it’s what in the videos with my beautiful Koala Furniture and my Baby lock machines
- The shipping department has one room as his office.
- We have 1 other rooms for quilts, batting, notions, projects not being working on, other fabric, books, etc.
- AND the ‘over flow’ room right now is our dining room as it can’t all fit in the one room upstairs. The photo above is one wall in my dining room. On the wall is my village quilt (BUY the pattern here), and the blocks are from my Triangle book (HERE)
In my studio I keep JUST what I’m working on and my main fabric. On that video I talk about it being messy. It is ‘messy’ in that projects were not in optimum work places, split across areas, and things got put in spots that took up valuable space in my small room
Now for a few photos of my ‘after’

My organizational problem is working on too many projects at one time and not having enough space to store them all.
My sewing room is in the lower level of our house, so if I don’t have things in containers or cabinets, it gets a musty smell. Also, the room is small and getting to things can be hard sometimes because of how I have things stacked.
I love notions, ribbons and buttons. I wish I had more storage ideas to get organized. After I purchased what I thought I had I find what I was looking for. I just moved to a new house and trying to get reorganized is so hard. Finding a flow that works in the new house is hard!
Remembering where I put things
My biggest problem is finding space for all the odds and ends I “need” for quilting.
My biggest challenge is that I live in an open loft space that has a single small closet in the bedroom–so however I organize my quilting *stuff,* none of it will be able to be put away behind a closed door.
My biggest problem is having the energy to actually organize my sewing room. When I have the time, & energy, I want to sew instead. Then things just get out of hand.
My biggest problem is starting too many projects prior to completing ones I have started. My stash keeps growing and so do my ideas for quilting. I am a scrap quilter with more fabric cut for any quilt. Very disorganized at the best of time. Hopefully I will complete a quilt this year.
My challenge is keeping up with all the gadgets and doohickeys that you only need once in awhile. Sewing feet, specialty rulers, etc.
Fabric is one of my biggest problems in my craft room. However I tend to keep
too much for the future. I had bins with fabric by size but now I have sorted by color. Always in flux.
I love how you put projects in the storage bins. I do that as well I call them kits cause I have the Fabrics and the pattern or instructions of what I want to do with the fabric in the container . I have some fabric hanging and some on shelves. My space is limited. I love your cabnets, my space is to small but I like it, it work fine for me. Keep putting out the videos we all love to learn ways to reorg.
I have need of better ideas to put my fabric in so it is easily.visible.
My biggest problem is viewable storage. Outta sight/Outta mind. I forget where I put the usable scraps from past quilts which I could have used in a new project and end up buying new “scraps”! UGH!
I had my items organized fairly well, but too many shop hops and no actual quilting later it has become quite messy!! I created a nice set of grid-type shelving for some separation and project areas. I love your ideas and learning from you!
My biggest problem is buying fabric to start a project then forgetting what I planned and starting another one. Maybe I need to put up a cork board to remind myself.
My biggest problem is always finding something new to buy….and Aurifil thread is my present passion.
I keep all my projects, no matter what state of completion in their own plastic Rubbermaid box and label them and then store them on Home Depot’s shelving units in a separate room. I can quickly pull the project I want to work on. When they are finished there is an empty space on the shelf….which I quickly fill with a new project…naughty girl1111
I often have three or four boxes in my quilting studio at a time. I just put things back in the box when I am finished for the day…..or hang the partially completed blocks on my design wall. I did Splendid Sampler 1 this way….lots of blocks on the design wall and I did finish all the 100 blocks.
My work can range from wool work, piecing contemporary or reproduction, applique, etc.
Empty salad greens containers from the grocery store work really well. You can see through them and label them. I cut my scraps into various sized squares, or strips and label them i.e. Reproduction, Contemporary, 1930s, etc. and the sizes…3″, 2″, 1 1/2″, etc. They are ready to use at a glance.
Staying ahead of it! I’ll pull fabric for a project and then find some fabric I’ve forgotten.
My biggest organizational problem is fabric – I always seem to be getting more….
My biggest problem is space , I try to stay as organized as possible but somehow it isn’t as neat as I would like .
Making sure I take all the items I think I will need during our 5 mo. at our summer home.
My biggest organization problem is STAYING FOCUSED ON TASK!!! I get side tracked easily, working on one thing and pick something else up and get involved with that and lose focus on what I originally started.
To many works in progress is my biggest problem.
My problem is space. I have way too much for my tiny sewing area. Of course, then I buy more!
My biggest problem is the variety of projects I have going at once. I had to pitch everything into a closet when we had a long term guest, now is my chance to organize it as I bring it back out!
My biggest problem is having too much stuff and a room that, fortunately, is –for now, anyway– big enough to contain it all. Because I have enough space for everything, I feel I am not as organized as I should and would be if I had less room.
My biggest problem is keeping it organized enough for me to focus. When I start a project I mess up my stuff then have to organize again before I can continue.
We remodeled our home this past year and that meant I could plan my second largest room for my sewing room. Before it was the smallest bedroom. I used Bonnie Hunter’s scrap cutting suggestions and used plastic drawer bins from Walmart to put the different sizes in and still have two tubs to cut! That was a fun project because the fabrics go back 30 years. I folded all my fabrics with a 6 1/2″ ruler and stored them in ikea glass door cabinets and need to use sheers to protect the fabric colors. I got the open book cases and have three full of books(30 years) and some “do dads”. Books are my weakness! The ikea cd cabinets work great for charm packs and jelly rolls. The double closet is filled with Lowe’s shelving and rolling drawers from Walmart that have ufo’s and future projects to be finished. I can now go to the sewing room and sew happily!!! Even the cats are happy!!!
I don’t seem to manage to sort my fabric in a useful way.
Ahh. I think that the biggest problem is keeping up with all my tools. If I go to a retreat and take some then I don’t put them back and can’t find them when I need them. So I guess the biggest problem is myself and my lack of organization. But, hope, I am working on it.
Keeping all my projects organized and together. They are all just thrown in a tote, with supplies for each folded together but it is pretty messy doing it that way.
Besides putting things back, its seeing what is in each container. I dont like the clear containers but need another way to ID what is in each “box”.
I definitely need help setting up a brand new sewing room- table, chair, cabinets, storage…for my brand new Dream Machine 2 I am getting for my September birthday. I have to let my LIBRA creative side shine!
My biggest problem of organizing is first of all, space. I have set up our unused front entry way and closet into my sewing room. It is just off the living room which is great, but I am now extending into the living room with a cutting table. I recently changed it around to fit my new Bernina in and i had to move all my tools, etc. So i am getting used to reaching for them in a new spot.
I have too much stuff in my small room. I am in the process of moving things around to get better organized. I do need a larger space, so I can get a sitdown midarm machine, in my dreams.
Fabric storage…I want to see my pretties but have them organized
Biggest need is an organizing rack for printed patterns, quilting magazines, etc – looking for some type of wire, pocket file, wall unit – lots of wonderful ideas but too disorganized to keep them straight!
My biggest problem is buying too much fabric and not finding enough time to get all of it sewn. When working on a project I some time have to move and thenget items mixer up
My storage problem is I can’t bare to throw out the tiniest of scraps!
My husband ‘stashed’ a lot of extras in my sewing room when we moved in and I haven’t found space for what I need. I tend to bury all the leftovers from that ‘temporary’ plan of his under bags & bins with UFOs in them.
My biggest organizational problem is how to sort and store my fabric.
I use the other 1 1/2 if our 2 extra bedrooms for my sewing. The other 1/2 is grandsons bed. I need more cabinet space but dont know where i would put it. Fabric is in totes and i do ok with that but need someplace to store patterns, thread etc.
That apron is adorable!!
My problem is my husband, if he would finally finish my sewing room and get his stuff out I could get organized.
My biggest problem is too much stuff. I have a really hard time getting rid of fabric because I feel like I will use it. It’s a good thing that I still like the fabric I bought a few years ago, but it is also a curse because it’s still my “style.”
My organizational problems would all be solved if I could finish what I’m working on BEFORE I buy the “next” project!
I work on too many projects at the same time, then can’t easily find what I need for whatever project I want/have to work on. YIKES!
My biggest problem is having too many projects going at once. My sewing area then gets cluttered. I need to finish some of them and not start another until I get them down to a manageable number.
My biggest problem is that I have too much stuff for the size of my room and too many unfinished projects
