I’m busy making my main studio space more usable… check out my progress AND enter my giveaway!
I give you a BEFORE tour
My main studio space is where I work all the time. It has my projects in progress, machines, computer, and most of my fabric.

About 3pm I started pulling all the projects out of my studio space to resort them and put them into better size container and more effective & productive spots for my use. I did a video for you
For the post part I’m not doing fabric, just projects.
That includes all the different products I review or test. PLUS I had some UFOs in my main space that were not being worked on and taking up valuable work space. They needed to be moved.
Taking it out is EASY.
Deciding how to regroup and where in my studio should it now be, is more difficult. I started when I got up.

For our family business we work at home, so our whole small home has become our office.
We have no basement and no usable attic. So my business takes up 4 rooms in our home.
- My studio is my main work room and what you see all the time. It is the family room of our home, it’s what in the videos with my beautiful Koala Furniture and my Baby lock machines
- The shipping department has one room as his office.
- We have 1 other rooms for quilts, batting, notions, projects not being working on, other fabric, books, etc.
- AND the ‘over flow’ room right now is our dining room as it can’t all fit in the one room upstairs. The photo above is one wall in my dining room. On the wall is my village quilt (BUY the pattern here), and the blocks are from my Triangle book (HERE)
In my studio I keep JUST what I’m working on and my main fabric. On that video I talk about it being messy. It is ‘messy’ in that projects were not in optimum work places, split across areas, and things got put in spots that took up valuable space in my small room
Now for a few photos of my ‘after’

My biggest problem is space. We have a small house and 4 kids. My main work area is our living room and my storage area is half of my closet space in my bedroom.
I think my biggest issue is knowing what to keep and what not to keep. I’m always afraid “I’ll need it later.”
fabric, fabric, more fabric.I was keeping my fabric on shelves, but found some of it was fading. so I decided to put it into baskets and bins. Now I can’t find anything… I end up making a big mess looking for something. I have projects in piles on every available surface. I am trying to label bins, definitely a work in progress.
My biggest problem is that I start too any projects and I have a hard time patting with stuff. I need to clear my work space.
My biggest organizational challenge is fabric storage.
I have to many things out… And need to focus on a couple projects
My biggest organization problem is I have too many projects going at once. I try to keep each one in a separate project box, but sometimes I have too much stuff out at once!!
I just found out how to send comments. My biggest problem with organization is the small area that I use and I am always cluttering it up. I decide where to put something and then can’t remember where I put it.
I have been buying and saving fabric since the late 70’s. Needless to say I have LOTS of fabric. I’ve been told to “just give it away”. HOW??? I bought it because I loved it. I still do. Hmmmmm So I have 4 bookshelves and 2 closets full of fabric. My organizational problem is how to determine what fabric to pass on so I can have more room to be organized.
My biggest struggle right now is fabric storage. I need to figure out what system will work best for me and get some containers. Right now all my cotton fabric is in one large storage tote…very hard to keep organized!
My biggest problem is starting too many new projects and not finishing UFO’s. I have too much stuff and need to purge so I can get organized.
I have too many things going at the same time and don’t finish things
My biggest problem is fabric. I get it home, wash it, then not sure how to sort. Also, scrap piece sorting.
My biggest organizational problem is that if I put something away I think I might not find it again so I leave too much out
My biggest problem is not putting things away promptly. I like looking at my stuff so I tend to leave things out.
Finding more space for my fabric. I really must quilt faster. 🙂
My biggest problem is my fabric, I have too much for my sewing room. I think the closet is in need of a makeover 😊
I need some type of storage for my hexie, cathedral window, and all hand sewing projects.
I would love to have room for lower book cases like I your room Pat, for for now I’ll settle for the little 3 drawer units I have tucked under my sewing/cutting table. Just having a separate room is great and I’m happy!
My problem is disorganization. I have started and stopped several projects because of necessary trips due to family matters and health issues. So now my room is cluttered and a mess. I need help!
Space I do a lot of Quilting work on the floor.
Space and so many projects out there to be done! I seem to be a collector of stuff–patterns, scissors, buttons, fabric, wool….. I could be more discriminating.
My biggest problem is organizing all my fabric. I have so much and keep acquiring more and it’s hard to keep all of it organized.
My biggest problem…keeping track of all the fabric!
My biggest organization challenge is keeping things in their place and not working on too many things at any one time. Somehow I need to limit myself to one project at a time.
My issue is getting several different things out looking for something and then I don’t get them back so I then have a large mess. I need to turn the entire room into a quilt room rather than the closet
I am currently working on my Dresden plate quilt.
My biggest problem is space. My sewing machine and iron is in a room on the 2nd. floor and my cutting table, fabric is on the 3rd. floor. I get a lot of exercise when I am working on a project.
my biggest problem is too many quilts at one time – 8 are in the works right now and 4 need quilted – need at least 2 more of me…help
Pat, my biggest organizational problem is too much area and not enough wall space I live in a real log cabin. I like you have a lot of wip’s in plastic storage cases, I also have a list and recently a friend stopped by to help me get a little more organized. Problem is I keep going back to my old locations for certain items. 😉I’m having a studio tour with my quilt guild so I need to do some organizing in the next 4 weeks!
Your videos came at a perfect time thank you
I hope you have a great day thanks for the opportunity to win something.

My biggest organizational problem is starting too many projects at one time then putting them out of sight to clean up, then you know out of sight out of mind.
My space is dark, so “seeing” what I have is problematic.
My biggest issue is having too many projects on the go at one time. Piles of fabric everywhere!
I have a spare room in my basement that I use as my sewing room…but it doesn’t have a single window! Terrible lighting is my main problem!
My biggest organizational issue would be QADD, quilting attention deficit disorder. I currently have 7 started projects and it creates a mess everywhere.
My biggest problem is that I want to do it all in one room. I like all types of fiber crafts from weaving to quilting to sewing. I like art quilts, improv quilting, traditional quilting, quilting with beads,…well, you get the idea. I only have one bedroom and part of another room to store my stuff. (Did I mention I collect scraps for mixed media projects too?). I like to have everything on hand and on sight in case I am inspired. That leads to one big disorganized mess in which I can’t find anything!
My Biggest problem is not enough room to store all of my fabric and patterns. Also, I miss my larger table to work on…and my son broke the legs when they moved it out when my husband was ill!!!
I would like to find a way to easily organize my WIP projects. I tend to work on multiple projects at the same time. I’d like to have my tools readily available for each project and not packed away with a specific project.
My biggest issue right now is that my stuff is all spread out in two rooms. My dining room has three sewing machines in it right now as well as a cutting board. We need to gut the room that has the rest of my quilting fabric, more machines, etc. The plaster walls are bad as well as the ceiling. My home is 108 years old so some plaster issues are going on. I need to get it in one room and organized again. That would be so calming for me.
My biggest problem is starting a project and then leaving it out on the table, only to come back to do another project.
My biggest problem is how to sort my fabric.
We travel and stay with our children in three states. I will take a machine and hand project with me. I tend to just dump projects in my sewing room on return. Especially if I did not work on it while traveling. So I have lots of bags sitting everywhere. I have found if I don’t take a project with me I’ll buy more (wink). Need to organize like you do. Watching this closely.
I want to do all of the QALs I see but I do limit myself to aprox 4 at a time. While working on the blocks my space gets so messy. I have dedicated 1 draw in my sewing room and a box/basket for the scraps for each project I am working on. So far So good
My biggest problem is storage of scraps. I try to keep up with it, but sometimes it becomes overwhelming! I need to spend some time sorting, but always seem to be sewing instead!!
I cannot throw away even the smallest piece of fabric!!! LOL What I just started doing is putting them in a bag/container and I am going to eventually make dog beds for our fur babies 🙂
My biggest problem is buying too much for a project that I want to do but have moved onto another one while I collected for the first project and then it will be a year or so til I get back to the first one. And then doing that same thing over and over again….focus, focus, focus
My biggest problem is dealing with the scraps I have left over from my projects. They seem too big to throw away. I tried Bonnie Hunters method of cutting them into usable pieces but that takes too long. The last time it took four days. I now have three bins filled with scraps.
My organization obstacle is my sewing room is a walk thru room. It’s not a great layout.
My biggest challenge is fabric storage! I sew in my sunroom so I feel like I need to keep fabric boxed away, out of the bright sunlight, but I hate not having it out where I can see it and be inspired.
My biggest problem is, I just dont have the budget to buy bigger pieces of fabric then just two or three fat quarters, and right now I have to use what I have in my drawers, so…small projects like mug rugs and small table toppers/runner. I have one small drawer that holds my fabrics and one shelf that holds everything for my quilt I am working on. My sewingmachine is downstars, just like that shelf with my quilt stuf.
