I’m busy making my main studio space more usable… check out my progress AND enter my giveaway!
I give you a BEFORE tour
My main studio space is where I work all the time. It has my projects in progress, machines, computer, and most of my fabric.

About 3pm I started pulling all the projects out of my studio space to resort them and put them into better size container and more effective & productive spots for my use. I did a video for you
For the post part I’m not doing fabric, just projects.
That includes all the different products I review or test. PLUS I had some UFOs in my main space that were not being worked on and taking up valuable work space. They needed to be moved.
Taking it out is EASY.
Deciding how to regroup and where in my studio should it now be, is more difficult. I started when I got up.

For our family business we work at home, so our whole small home has become our office.
We have no basement and no usable attic. So my business takes up 4 rooms in our home.
- My studio is my main work room and what you see all the time. It is the family room of our home, it’s what in the videos with my beautiful Koala Furniture and my Baby lock machines
- The shipping department has one room as his office.
- We have 1 other rooms for quilts, batting, notions, projects not being working on, other fabric, books, etc.
- AND the ‘over flow’ room right now is our dining room as it can’t all fit in the one room upstairs. The photo above is one wall in my dining room. On the wall is my village quilt (BUY the pattern here), and the blocks are from my Triangle book (HERE)
In my studio I keep JUST what I’m working on and my main fabric. On that video I talk about it being messy. It is ‘messy’ in that projects were not in optimum work places, split across areas, and things got put in spots that took up valuable space in my small room
Now for a few photos of my ‘after’

My biggest problem is taking the time to clean up from one project before going on to the next one!
I need to add more shelving to my quilting room.
Thanks,Sandra
my biggest problem is where to put my patterns that I print off. they pile up on my desk and on my printer. I also am running out of room for my fabric. I made new shelves and they are full also. I sew in my basement and in the bedroom. I wish I had more room than that.

My biggest problem is being messy doing a project and then starting another one before I take care of the first mess. I really would like to figure out how to deal with paperwork and not have a mess with that too.
Thanks for the chance to win. I have multiple BOMs on the go all the time so my biggest organizational issue is not putting away the fabric as soon as I use it. I’m just going to have to pull the bin out again next month, right?
My biggest organizational problem is the clutter. Everything is not in its place, UGH!
I am so organized, I’m disorganized! I have a designated room in the basement that I thought (on paper) it would layout the way it needed to for longarm, Accuquilt, cutting table, stash(all divided by color family, ongoing projects, you know, those BOM I love but never finish. Forward 1 year and it’s not big enough…NO….I could not possibly have too much…lol! Sewing room upstairs is even worse, so the DR is for sewing, hey, we have never eaten at the table anyway, so why not utilize that? If I could organize my mind there would be complete calmness…OH WAIT…LOOK….A FABRIC STORE!
My biggest problem is space… I have gotten creative in using the space I have.. but time to sew faster so i can find some of the space i have.
I have so many projects started, and many ready to start, and many more in the “pulling fabric” stage, I want to do so much!
When I began sewing, I. Jumped in and had a studio built. It is a beautiful 12X14 building. I left it an open room, had a sink and toilet installed in the corner, and then I used bookshelves for walls. I do not feel like I am using my space productively. I wish someone could show me how to better organize my shelves so I could find things easily. I n
Have 2 sewing machines and a serger. My space is too limited around my cutting table.
My biggest challenge is trying to organize items that are shared in several projects when I organize by project.
I can sort my fabric by color, but it is the sorting each color that I have problems with. I need to get me a good iron also. I was so glad to hear you are a scissoraholic….so am I.
Right now, I am using about a 5′ x 3′ space in the master bedroom for my sewing area. I do my pressing and cutting in the kitchen, and it works right now. But, I wish I had a real space to keep all my fabric. Anything larger would do!
I want to build a room onto my house for my sewing room. I have a couple of vintage machines and a non computer driven long arm. I love fabric and the kits. Sometimes I need a third set of eyes to make sure my colors flow, so needless to say I love the kits!!
There is always room for another fat quarter.
I would like to add a new large table.
Keeping things organized is my biggest issue. I love making things so much that I have to make myself stop to cleanup.
I want to get a different ironing board.
There is always room for another day quarter.
My biggest problem is storage and organization. I have plastic containers that I try to organize by color or size, but I can never find something without going through many containers. If a fabric is many colors, then where does that go? I’m trying to find a system that works for me. And the containers are getting heavy and stacked in a closet. I’m working on it!
Time, time, time, My projects all seem to have deadlines so I sew for the deadline.
The thing I think that would be helpful for me is to add a work table that is adjustable. I would love to be able to raise it to work on projects. Sitting can be uncomfortable at times and the would let me stand and continue to work.l
What I need most are TIME and SPACE!!!!
I need a new iron and would love a new sewing machine.
My BIGGEST challenge is too much fabric. I need to weed, sort, donate and ‘kit’. THEN maybe I would be in better shape!
I have 2 main issues – my projects tend to overflow their storage containers as the quilt gets bigger, and I keep changing the way I store my fabric, especially when I buy more. By color? By theme? By designer? Just thought of a third problem – my inability to finish projects before starting new ones! Is there such a thing Quilting ADD?
My wish would be more space! I have a tiny corner and have trouble storage space where I can quickly locate fabric.
My biggest problem is when trying to clean and organize, I find things I haven’t seen in awhile. Next thing I know, I’m working on another project!
I have a very small sewing room. My problem is that I don’t have the room to store my scraps in an organized, sorted by colour way. They all have to go into one container and it’s a pain going through them looking for that certain scrap. I start out with them organized in the tote but they always get messy.
Too many little things and forgetting where I put them.
I have the most trouble organizing fabric that is bigger than a fat quarter but smaller than the yard I put on comic boards.
Having the space to keep bins after they are organized.
My biggest problem is storage. I just purchased two kitchen islands for my sewing area and my containers do not fit. I love your red and white checked baskets but have not been able to find any for my fabric. I have tons of scissors, marking tools, rulers, and gadgets I need to keep together. How do you store these things?
My biggest issue is storing my fabric. I larger fabric pieces in a dresser, medium size in card catalog drawers and small pieces in rolling carts with drawers. My sewing room is an 80 year old bunkhouse. I have make-shift storage for patterns, projects, sewing supplies.
My biggest obstacle is space! I have a smallish room, but I have three sewing machines (only two are set up – one is for taking with me to classes, etc.), my cutting table and ironing board. The closet is stacked as high as it can be with containers and active projects are shoved in any open space I can find. I can’t complain though, my husband only has part of the garage for his toy train hobby so only gets to pull it down when the weather is cool. We live in Tucson so there are 5 months of the year it’s just too hot in the garage. But, alas, I keep collecting more stash fabric and projects. 😜
My biggest problem is that it seems like my cutting table seems to be a catch all!
My biggest organizational problem is keeping things from getting lost in the shuffle. I like the idea of the baskets to sort them into and will be trying that. We moved from a house where I had a large sewing studio to a smaller home where I use one of the bedrooms for my sewing room. I’m really having a tough time getting my room organized and just need to add some storage shelving so I can have more room for my sewing machines and actual work area.
My biggest problem is I can’t focuse on any on of many projects I have. Every time I see something new I want to try but I end up postponing it and moving on to the new project. I want to finish everything I have🤣
Need more storage space where I can look at all of my fabrics and furniture that fits a small space. Need a new wall covered with storage space for fabric where I can open the door and see what I have and what I need.
My biggest issue is scraps and bits leftover from quilts. I’m trying to organize my strips but the other shapes…..what to do with them…can’t throw them out.
My main problem is space. I have my sewing studio full of projects, fabric, thread, etc. I also have 2 closets in one of our guest rooms full of stuff. I am in the process of doing what you are doing, Pat, trying to reorganize my projects. Good luck on getting your projects organized.
I am not sure if my biggest problem is lack of space or just not utilizing the space I have well enough. Fabric scraps is another big problem, not being able to throw anything away cause I just know that “someday” I will “need” that for “something” — smile — because “someday” I want to do a postage stamp quilt and a string quilt and a picture quilt make out of scraps . . .lol
Organizing my fabric so I can find it easier.
My biggest challenge is organizing my various colors, styles, and lines of fabrics in a way that I can actually find and use them efficiently. Some fabric is stored by color, some by style (repro, 30’s, novelties, brights, solids, holiday, etc), and some by designer/lines. Then there are the scraps!!
My biggest problem is having no consistent strategy for dealing with the many projects I’m working on at the same time. I pile them in different places, store them in different kinds and sizes of containers, and things get messy (and sometimes disorganized or even forgotten). Then other things like new fabric and scraps start piling up as well.
you know the plastic instructions that come with your product … I sew it into a pocket and keep the loose pieces in it. Jean from Canada
I guess my biggest problem is similar to everyone’s….not enough space. There seemed to be enough when we first moved into our house but the space seems to be shrinking? Surely it’s not because i have more stuff……
I find I don’t know what size pieces to keep and what to get rid of so I save most all of it. I have a bin for pieces but they are never the right size that I need. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
I have so many projects started and just want to start more.
