I have a HUGE thank you to everyone that sent me a note to tell me if you read these emails, watch my videos, and are in my quilting community. 💕 I really enjoyed hearing from you! I FORGOT that we can't reply to the notice anymore as it's a new company and it works differently. To contact me you need to put in my email pat@patsloan.org
It is such an honor to make chairity quilts each year, and the Make a Wish project is so cool as it 'takes a village' to raise the funds that we all do. My quilt is made with help from my friend Bobbie who works with me on piecing it and my friend Karin who quilted it for Chairty. Both of them deserve a huge shout out 🎉for helping support Make a Wish!
The weather here is turning cooler, which is a bit unusual for northern Virginia. I suspect we'll get 'another summer' sometime in September with a few more days of high temps. Although my plants are loving these cooler temps and I don't have to water all of them every day, bonus!

I once made a skirt with a Seminole patchwork border, have decorated jackets (usually sweartshirts) with patches and recently sewed a patch over a stain I couldn’t remove from jeans I liked. Am investigating big stitching now.
I love patching jeans, work and casual clothes. I do reverse applique and prefer using the patches as more of an embellishment. I find it a good way to recycle favorite functional clothing. I have also been more interested in decorative stitching and hand quilting as I have lots more need for portable take along projects.
I have added patchwork to jeans for a long time. Sometimes out of necessity and sometimes just for the pop of color or decoration
I don’t think I ever used patchwork on clothing but with all the new “modern” stitching being done on clothes and mending, I think I am going to give it a try. I ripped a beloved shirt recently and it is screaming at me to try some stitching on it.
I am going to make a patchwork jacket.. Have the pattern and the fabric picked out.
I haven’t added patchwork to clothing in a very long time, but this book interests me. I do like to make tote bags and pillows out of extra patchwork blocks.
I need something new!
The Kantha looked very interesting! It is new to me but it looks like it would be right up my alley. I’d like to try it!
I like hand embroidery/sewing very much. The book shows designs I would like to learn.
Hi! I have added patchwork to pillows, bags, purses and have yet to add to clothing.
I haven’t done any patchwork with clothes yet. But I’ve been saving old jeans, men’s shirts, and other items to do “something” patchwork work some day . Lol. The bin is getting quite large. 😉
Back when I was a teenager patching jeans was a big thing. So that is what I did and loved it I can remember adding hearts to my jeans
No I have never purposely decorated an article of clothing with quilt work. But I have “patched” many a pair of jeans for my husband so he can continue weating them at the farm when he goes and helps his brother. But I know this is not what you had in mind. HAHA
Love spending my early mornings with you.
I have added patchwork to clothing but not for several years now (even though I have a denim vest and shirt that I will someday “doctor up.” I added patchwork cuffs, collar, and appliques to a shirt to match a vest I had made. I think I’ve given them away by now… Thanks for all you do for the quilting world, Pat!
I have added patches for decoration ,to cover rips and covered stains on a new pair of jeans for my great granddaughter with flowers cut on my Accuquilt They really looked like they were bought that way.
Thanks Pat
I didn’t put patchwork on clothes but I did on bags and purses
I used to wear clothes in the 70s with little plaid patches that my mom put on just for fun. Recently, I bought an adorable pair of jeans from Coldwater Creek with the same type of patches. I would love to win the book and see how Kantha does this! Thank you for the opportunity!
Hi Pat, I would love to win the Kantha book! I have been watching videos on the subject but would love to be able to read about the history of the stitching. Also I must say, I LOVE your pear quilt! Your color selection totally enhances the pattern.
Hi, Pat!
I put quite a few patches on clothes that did not match the fabric, but I never made a patchwork piece for either the patch or to decorate. I did fussy cut a red rose to patch my dad’s bib overalls that he wore to work. Also, I’ve darned a goodly number of socks with thread that did not match the sock.
Does any of that count?
Virginia In Northern Ohio.
I have patched socks, not so much clothing.
I would love the book on kantha stitchinq. I’ve been wanting to do something using that and I love reading the history behind any of the art forms that interest me. I love your videos and they are my guilty pleasure before going to sleep at night.
Kantha seems really interesting to me. I watched a video by Amy Barrickman not too long ago where she added patchwork to clothing. I have a pink denim jacket that got washed with something in one of the pockets that caused a rather large stain and I have given considerable thought as to how to fix it rather than discard it. I had considered machine or hand embroidery, but after the video I thought patchwork might work as well. Kantha might be a good ideas as well. Thanks Pat for sharing this and offering the book!
The last time I remember adding patchwork to clothing was to make my son a scarecrow costume for Halloween. That would have been probably 1986, when he was 4.
Thank you for your great videos! I added patchwork to a lot of sewing I did as a teenager because it was also all hand sewing. Now that I sew with a machine, I haven’t really added patchwork to my sewing but I do enjoy appliqué sewing.
I’ve added embroidery to clothing, but I don’t think I’ve ever added patchwork. Might be something to try.
Yes, I have added patchwork to my clothing, but it wasn’t because I had a wild, creative side. It was because my clothes had holes and if I wanted to continue wearing that garment, I needed to patch it or risk looking like a hobo! I probably looked like a hobo anyway, but at least my less desirable parts weren’t exposed! 😆
I have sewn patches on jeans in the ‘70. Love the jacket shown on today’s show. I’m starting a class on making a quilt jacket next week. Your cross stitch is precious. After watching you I’m inspired to go back and cross stitch. Hope my eyes can still see well enough.
I’ve added patch work to sweatshirts, and tote bags. Katha has intrigue me. 🙂
I have not added patchwork to clothing yet!! I used to live in Strasburg, VA. I enjoy hearing about Virginia as I do miss being there.
I’ve never added patchwork to clothing but I have embroidered flowers, bees, butterflies, etc on pant legs. I love scrappy quilts so this book sounds wonderful.. I’ve always wanted to try kantha
I love patchwork on clothing. I added some patchwork to a pair of jeans to make them into bell bottoms for a Halloween costume. They turned out so cute, I wear them regularly now.
No, I have never added stitching to clothing, but I love the look of it!
Hello Pat. I am amazed to learn about Kantha! I have never heard of it. How beautiful it looks and the book is beautiful.
Back in the 70’s we added patchwork to our clothes. Would be fun to do it again!!
I added patchwork to my kids clothes all the time! I also remember putting in fabric wedges in the bottom of my jeans to make the flares. Does that date me???
That book looks so fun!!! I’m sure I did add patchwork to my clothes back in the 70’s also. A great era!
I made one of my sisters a patchwork skirt recently. She lives in Iowa and I’m in Texas so we don’t see each other often. She loved the skirt.I am an avid reader and would enjoy having another book to read.
I have not added patchwork to clothing other than patching my husband’s work pants:) I have been reading a lot of books on the history of quilting and I think this one would be very interesting to read.
I made a patchwork jacket about 10 years ago in a quilting class. I have never worn the jacket though. At a quilt guild meeting one of the members showed us how to do Kantha on a small project. I would like to learn more about it.
I have not added patchwork to clothing.i would love to learn Kantha stitching!
Yes, I just put patchwork on a pair of jeans, a favorite pair and the knees were getting very thin. Now, I have a new pair of old jeans.
I have never added patchwork to my clothing but I may have done that to my children’s clothing. I made a lot of their clothes and loved doing it. I so much love watching your videos and look forward to them on the days they run. Thanks for all that you do.
“Have you ever added patchwork to clothing?” Yes I did! My grandmother taught me how to embroider so I stitched on anything I could. Clothes, pillowcases, hankies.
I did add patchwork to some items during COVID, but it was not for display or decoration, only functionality.
I have added patchwork to clothing in the past! Some of us liked to add it to our jeans and Jean jackets! Was popular at the time!
Yes I have several pairs if jeans. My favorite have roses that I’ve added patchwork and stitching to.
Love the Kantha Book. Reading the history of the technique sounds interesting. I love to patchwork clothing – intentionally visible gives character!
I have not added patchwork to clothing, but I have been contemplating doing that on a sweatshirt. I have made 2 Kantha projects and had a great time making them.
I added patchwork patches to my jeans in the 70’s. This book looks so fun!
I haven’t added patchwork to clothing (yet), but I would like to learn how to do this.
