It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser š
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds ā community quiltsā. Over the years Iāve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a āfriendā to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itās a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereās always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itās a good thing.
Alzheimerās research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10ā more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. My daughters and I started an annual cookie baking day and now the grandkids look forward to helping bake and decorate the cookies along with us.
My favorite tradition is going to look at Christmas decorations. Did it with my husband, then my best friend, now do it by ynyself.
My favorite Christmas cookie is the snowball, sorta a cookie with out taste with pecans in it and then rolled in powder sugar, itās a 1 bite cookie. Yummy
My favorite holiday tradition is getting together with my mom and dad. This year is going to be very hard as I lost my dad the first of October. We will be starting new traditions with just my mom, my husband and myself. Knowing we have a special angel looking down on us will help us get thru the holidays.
My favorite holiday treat at Thanksgiving is pumpkin pie cheesecake. My favorite treat at Christmas is the Chick-fil-A peppermint milkshake! It really marks the beginning of the Christmas season for me!!
My favorite holiday tradition was Santa waking us up on a Christmas Eve to put the presents under the tree. We continued this with our kids when they were little.
Our family tradition was started when I was very young. Christmas eve we would bake the most wonderful banana coffee cake that we would enjoy on Christmas morning with a half of a grapefruit. That would also be one of my favorite sweet treats too…. But I also love the crunchy peanut brittle we would make the week before the holidays.
I have two favorite holiday traditions. The first is that we read the story of the birth of Jesus on Christmas morning before we open any presents. It’s a wonderful time to stop and reflect on all our blessings and where they come from. The second is one that has hasn’t been done for several years now that my parents have passed, but we used to gather at their house on Christmas Eve and exchange presents with our siblings and their families. The excitement in the air with all the children was magical.
My Favorite Christmas Sweet: Chocolate chip cookies made at her me with my daughter every year when we have a baking day. I
I would give each family member a $100 bill – but the challenge was finding it! Each year I’d hide it in a different way – ie, sandwiched between chocolate squares, wrapped around a candy cane – you get the idea.
Holiday tradition: when we get together for Christmas the girls don Santa hats and the guys don elf hats and we take a family photo.
Favorite holiday treat: For years my sister and her family were living in Germany and would send my parents large tins of Lebkuchen. They were the BEST! I have the tins now and have some quilting supplies stored in them!
My favorite holiday tradition was helping my dad sell Christmas trees on his corner lot. I felt pretty grown up when he let me do the sell all by my self. My favorite sweet was my moms mound balls. Always looked forward to her making them and then receiving my little box. Itās been over 30 years since she has been gone but Christmas was fun at home
My favorite Holiday Tradition: definitely playing games for prizes. Everything year we play Christmas bingo on some cards with slides that you pull down to cover your numbers. I have such a fun time picking up odds and ends throughout the year as prizes. Anything from boxes of Jiffy corn muffin mix, kitchen utensils, body soaps and hand creams, to bags of limited edition coffees, Christmas search and find books or decorations, or gift cards for the grocery store or gas cards. Itās always a fun time and way better than trying to get gifts for everybody be when you only see them a couple times a year. Next year, I want to have some quilted projects to through in the huge satin-lined Velvet Santa Sack I made to keep all of the wrapped prizes in.
We have a cute German holiday tradition that weāve made our own. I hide a pickle ornament in the Christmas tree and the first child to find it gets a special chocolate treat! š
Rather than buying each of our adult children (5) and spouses a gift we have a Christmas raffle. Each person gets 10 tickets and they can pick which of the 10 gifts they want to bid on. We have the drawing after the Christmas meal. Only one gift per person. I was born in Belgium and my favorite cookie is a speculaas cookie made in a traditional wooden cookie mold.
My favorite holiday tradition at Thanksgiving is sharing my home and cooking for my family and friends without family nearby. At Christmas, itās our Christmas Eve candlelight service at church. So beautiful! My favorite treat was my momās cookies- I am learning her recipes nowš
My favorite family Christmas treat was a candy my mother in law made for us. It was made with confectionary sugar, butter & sprinkled with nutmeg. Yummy!
My favorite Christmas tradition is reading the advent book before opening our presents. Each child gets to read a page and open a door starting from oldest to youngest. the ones who are not able to read repeat what I tell them and then open thier door it is a beautifuly illustrated book about the birth of Christ.
My favorite Christmas sweet is my grandmothers peppernuts and ginger snaps. I miss her dearly and this keeps her memory alive and I tell my grand children about her every time we make these together. This will be a hard memory this year as I lost my father this summer and these were his favorite sweets his mother made for him and me and my sisters made them for him the past few years.
Our favorite holiday tradition is playing a rousing game of Risk (a conquer the world board game) while dinner is cooking.
Hi Pat, one of my favorite holiday traditions is visiting one or more of your “WeihnachtsmƤrkte” in Mainz or Wiesbaden or other small villages. Of course of the GlĆ¼hwein and all the delicious foods and self made gifts and decorations.
One of the best part of the Holidays is the home-made cookies. My sister and I (in different states) always make our Mother’s oatmeal cookies and our houses have wonderful smells. Visitors coming through the doors immediately look for the cookies. It is Tradition!
My favorite holiday tradition is the wrapping paper fashion show competition that we have every year. We divide up into random teams of two people and one team member dresses the other person in a wrapping paper outfit. We buy tons of paper, ribbons and tape the week after Christmas and save them for the next year.

Over the years my extended family has gotten married, maybe moved away, had children & grandchildren, and created their own traditions. With all the changes, distance, and growing families , itās gotten harder and harder to gather in one home on Christmas morning and exchange gifts. Now, after every family celebrates Christmas in their own way, everyone who can gathers mid-morning at my brotherās house for brunch. That has become one of my favorite Christmas traditions.

Favorite holiday tradition is putting up the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, Santa always put ours up and decorating under the tree with the Nativity scene. My mom and dad would wake us up (10) kids to see what Santa brought us. My dad said when we would go out to see what we got we would just stand in awe of the tree for a few minutes before we even noticed our presents. He always said that was his gift. My favorite holiday sweet is No-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies. Christmas was the only time of year that my grandmother made them.
one of our favorite traditions is when we set up the Nativity the Wise Men and camels are put across the room, or even in another room. They are moved a little each day until Epiphany, which is when it is believed they arrived to find the Christ Child in Bethlehem.
We also don’t put Baby Jesus in the manger until Christmas morning.

My favorite holiday treat is snickerdoodle bread. Itās yummy and I love to make little loaves to give to friends and family. I got the recipe from a friend and have passed it to others who also love it. The recipe calls for cinnamon chips which are kinda hard to find and I have some stories of our searches and buys that always make me laugh!
My favorite Holiday Sweet is tons of biscotti cookies. All the different kinds, almond, pistachio, hazelnut, dried cherry, and more. All dipped in dark chocolate or milk chocolate or white chocolate or pink chocolate. At least 50 dozen to giveawy and enjoy in the family.
