Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser š
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds ā community quiltsā. Over the years Iāve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a āfriendā to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itās a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereās always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itās a good thing.
Alzheimerās research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10ā more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday treat is this sticky, moist date bread that my mom would make in tin cans. It was always super sweet and it came out of the cans in a round shape so it made a pretty display among all the other sweet breads.
My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is gathering everyone around one very big extended table.

My favorite Holiday tradition is hand making Christmas ornaments every year for our kids/spouses and grandkids/significant others. It is fun to find a different one each year. I started doing this when my kids were babies; over 40 years ago.
My favorite holiday tradition is the big pot luck dinner we host every years with as mini of our kids and grandkids as can make it! Everyone has a great time and nobody is over tired from working in the kitchen for days. Wishing you a very happy birthday & a wonderful thanksgiving!

My favorite holiday tradition is placing a large spike/ornament on my tree. To remind me of Christ’s birth and to be thankful for the resurrection! My favorite treat for the holidays is peanutbutter and chocolate fudge! (If I have to pick just one!)
Our favorite holiday tradition is to find a family in need and my husband dresses up like Santa so they never find out who we are. We buy their whole holiday dinner fixings and presents and then Santa delivers it a few days before the holiday. It teaches our granddaughters that no matter how little we have their is always some people with less. We are a giving family
My favorite holiday tradition was going with my dad to pick out a live tree and taking home on top of our station wagon. And living in Florida, we always had a cardboard fireplace and chimney to hang our stockings. As the oldest of 7 kids, my mom and dad relied on me to help them and dad always took me on errands while mom stayed home with the rest of the family.

Favorite holiday tradition revolves around my mom’s caramels. She has a recipe that she has made for many years – always a couple of batches of them! When she got to be about 85, she said she wasn’t going to make them anymore. The tradition of her caramels still continues. We just make them and share them back to her.
Our favorite family tradition is – decorating sugar cookies. The grandchildren have even turned it into a competition! The recipe we use was my motherās and is now being passed down through the family.
Our favorite family treat is the sugar cookie. It is a soft thick luscious cookie that is covered in thick dreamy icing. Iām getting hungry just thinking about it.
Favorite Family tradition is the White Elephant gift exchange. The kids love it they get to play when they are about 3-4 yrs old and they catch on fast. Favorite sweet treats are the cookie exchange we do. We usually make 3-4 kinds with the kiddos

I forgot to add my favorite holiday treatā¦ Orange Slice cake oh my goodness – IT IS DELISH! It is an old recipe and my husbands grandmother used to make it and we would only get some around the holidays. I have the recipe but have yet to try to make it, I may have to try it this season!
I do not get to spend time with my family at the holidays but Thanksgiving I still like to make the traditional meal ….downsized a great deal. Thanksgiving is pie day then starts the Christmas cookie making which is my favorite. So many cookies and so little time! LOL

My favorite Christmas memory: I was 5 and it was cold! My dad took me to find the Christmas tree. Deep in the woods, we found the perfect cedar tree and he chopped it down and away we went home! BUT….it was about 3 foot to tall even after trimming, so he just chopped the top off and I got my very own tree for my bedroom!
FYI making holiday cookies is NOT a tradition in my home. It is rumored by those who know my baking abilities that I have to file with the Department of Environmental Protection and Department of Homeland Security if I decide to bake. “God bless bakeries!” is all I can say.

My favorite Christmas tradition is getting together with family on Christmas Eve. My favorite holiday treat is our family date balls. My mom made them every year and her sons-in-law and daughter in law would fight over them and hide the container!
My favorite holiday tradition is cooking and eating with the family. We like deciding on the menus, shopping for groceries together, cooking and finally eating together and packing up leftovers for each house.
My favourite is all getting together for Xmas meal and driving around town to see all the lights that are put up for the holiday!
My favorite holiday tradition is making White Christmas pie. It is a chiffon pie that is white and loaded with coconut. So delicious!
OUr favorite sweet is the peppermint pudding dessert that is 6 generations old. We call it Stick Candy Pudding because it is made from candy canes.
My favorite holiday tradition is when the volunteer Fire Department rides through the town on Christmas Eve with Santa atop the engine distributing candy canes to children and children at heart.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are always spent with family. Our family gatherings have gotten smaller but we still have dinners together and watch the younger ones have fun! I also love watching the old Christmas movies with just my beautiful tree lit.

We can’t usually get together, except over the holidays, because of work or kids. So when we see each other, sometimes it is a great surprise.

My favorite holiday tradition is. When I was in college the girls I lived with (10) of us got all dressed up and when out for dinner. We came back to our house and watched Its a Wonderland Life. We have been doing that the 1st Saturday in December for 44 years. Sometimes all 10 are in attendance and sometimes only a handful. We all try to make it a priority to get together.
