Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser đ
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds â community quiltsâ. Over the years Iâve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a âfriendâ to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itâs a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereâs always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itâs a good thing.
Alzheimerâs research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10â more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. My favorite holiday tradition is a new book for everyone on Christmas Eve. Of course, there is cocoa or coffee and a sampling of cookies.
So many traditions, it’s hard to choose just one, so I’ll say two….going to the tree farm to get a fresh tree to cut down, then I have a Christmas Tea with various teas, treats, and everyone brings a wrapped ornament for an ornament grab bag. Again, there are many more and even my growing up grandchildren remind me of ‘it’s what we do Meme’. Love traditions! blessings to you and yours through this holiday season!
One of my traditions is to get with friends and go see tge holiday light displays. We go out to eat, drive around and enjoy our company.

My hubby’s favorite Holiday Sweet is Buckeyes!! Balls of peanutbutter fudge dipped in melted chocolate leaving a circle of Peanutbutter uncovered, making them look like the Eye of a Buck, LOL
My favorite holiday treat is my homemade Christmas cookies. I have been making them for many years. I started when my children were young and they are now in their 40s. Some of the varieties were date nut pinwheels, buterball cookies, candy cane cookies and acorn cookies, which were flavored with almond extract and then dipped in chocolate and crushed walnuts.
My favorite holiday tradition is to leave gift baskets of homemade sugar cookies, icing, sprinkles/decorations for families that have had a difficult year. I love getting pictures of all of the family decorating cookies with lots of smiles on their faces. What a gift for me!

My favorite tradition is making gingerbread cookies. It comes from my aunt who would decorate each cookie perfectly and individually wrap them. Then she would give us one or two orâŠ. So I started making gingerbread boys and girls after I got married. But Iâm not as patient as my Aunt was. I only use red hots to decorate. Now my daughter has started making them too. So itâs a memory and my favorite Christmas cookie.

The most wonderful traditions we share is making wagon wheel cookies, sugar cookies, and baking pies. Oh the wonderful smells! We also buy each other a holiday ornament for the tree. We actually have three we put up each year when not traveling to visit the kids in Minnesota. And we have an advent calendar set up to count down the days until Christmas.
My favorite holiday tradition is listening to Christmas music and baking nut rolls. This is a family tradition handed down from my grandmother âBubaâ and we feel her spirit with us while we mix, knead, and bake.
Christmas cookies. I remember my mother-in-law making several kinds of cookies and freezing them. It seemed everyone in the family had a different favorite. For my family I still make cookies but they are out of pie crust with sugar and cinnamon on top. Christmas isn’t complete with this grandma’s pie crust cookies.

I started a little holiday tradition when my grandchildren were young. I hide the Christmas stocking somewhere in the house. I give them the first clues and they follow it to find the next clue until they finally get to the stockings. Even though they are older now, they still look forward to our little scavenger hunt!

My favorite thing to do on holidays is fix a big turkey or ham dinner and take to our friends who are up in age that do not cook for themselves . My boyfriend is 80 and I am 71 and not sure how much longer we will be able to do this so we are enjoying it as long as we can
My favorite tradition is having late morning Christmas breakfast at my mother-in-law’s house. She began having the breakfast when the family grew and began having conflicts with needing to be at two different family dinners at the same time. After enjoying time with her on Christmas morning, that left everyone free to have Christmas dinner with the other side of the family. It has worked out well for many years now!
My favorite holiday tradition is one my mother-in-law did with all the little ones and not so little ones in the family called stocking night. She bought socks for each one, filled one with goodies and gave the other one to the participant. She hid the filled ones and they had to be found by the lights of the Christmas tree. This was usually done sometime between Christmas and New Years. Our children still do this with their grandchildren now.
My favorite holiday tradition is to go to my Daughters, and see all of my great grand kids, and half of my grand kids. It is such a happy place to be.

Itâs Sringerle. My grandmother and mother taught my sisters and I how to make the dough and press the pictures. We have taught our children how to make them so the family tradition continues.

My favorite holiday tradition and favorite sweet is making Turtles with my mom. Since she has gotten older she can’t help as much with her arthritis, but it is something we do together. They are made with caramel and pecan patties dipped in chocolate. We have to make so many because we give them away as gifts.
Our family only had a tradition of meeting at grandmas house with pot luck dishes and small gifts for children. The meal was the tradition with all the relatives together.
