Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser š
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds ā community quiltsā. Over the years Iāve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a āfriendā to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itās a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereās always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itās a good thing.
Alzheimerās research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10ā more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. Christmas caroling is my favorite holiday tradition. Now it is just a fond memory of caroling with our church group when I was a child. It still warms my heart to think about the fellowship of standing outside peoples’ homes in the quiet, crisp air of December nights and seeing the joy on peoples’ faces through the windows. The hot chocolate and cookies they gave us were a welcomed treat.

Shopping for our Christmas tree with my dad. Of course we couldnāt start decorating it until it sat in the stand and thawed out so the branches would drop. I swear that took forever waiting as a child. Then the decorating began, dad would do the lights (bubble lights) and tinsel one strand at a time. We would put the ornaments on and those candy cherries on wires . The dogs liked them too.( they pulled the tree down trying to eat them one year) Christmas Eve we would go to church then come home to open our presents, Santa would stop by with one of his elfās with a gift he forgot to deliver on his way back to the North Pole. I remember running outside in the snow bare feet and all to see Santa take off in his sleigh.
My favorite Holiday tradition is the whole family getting together on Christmas Eve and eating then opening ALL the gifts.
My favorite Christmas treat is sugar cookies, frosted of course!
My favorite sweets for the holiday are my no bake drop cookies. My mom used to make them every year. She is gone now since 2020. I miss her terribly but so glad she passed this tradition down to us!!!

Hello!! My favorite holiday tradition is Christmas Eve Jammieās! I have tried to end this since my kids are grown and I had a mutiny! Lol we are now doing family Jammieās !! What a hit!!! Thank you for all you are teaching me about quilting. It is helping me tremendously!

My favorite holiday tradition is getting the tree with my youngest of six kids. They are all grown now and live far but he always makes it home the first weekend in December to cut a Christmas tree and help decorate, when they were young we would all go. It’s the start of the holiday season for me.
My favorite holiday tradition is counting down to Christmas using individual advent calendars I designed for me children. My eldest son did not like chocolate when he was younger (unbelievable, I know). So I designed and quilted polar express calendar for him with 25 bags attached. As each bag is taken off you see more of the train. He loves it still. Of course I couldnāt leave the other 2 out, so daughter had coffee and cookies calendar and youngest son had Christmas tree with presents.
Speaking of my children, my favorite holiday sweet is cut out sugar cookies that we decorate together is many different colors of icing. Sometimes at the end everything blended to brown but they still tasted great the the kids loved doing it.
Hi Pat. My favorite holiday tradition is family Thanksgiving meal. We gather at my 95 year old Mothers home and we all contribute traditional Thanksgiving food. She has 3 generations come and it’s her favorite tradition as well.

Making lefsa with everyone at my momās. Ages range form 89 years old -2 years old. Needless to say they are usually shaped like Texas versus a circle, but it still tastes delicious. Have a blessed holiday everyone.

My favorite holiday tradition is spending time with my husband making ornaments for our children, their spouses and the grand kids. They love receiving them and we love making and giving them. Cannot wait until this year because we thought outside the box this time! My favorite holiday sweet would have to be Spritz cookies! I use my Mom’s recipe that I cherish because it’s in her handwriting, which also brings back memories!

My favorite holiday tradition is for my family to come over Christmas morning and we all open presents together after breakfast. Itās especially fun with my grandchildren now. The excitement on their faces never gets old! We also go to our local park Which is decorated and Christmas lights, one evening. They serve cookies and hot chocolate as you walk around and look at the lights.

A favorite holiday tradition in our house is opening up or dumping out stockings. I find small, fun inexpensive gifts all year and wrap each little thing. My kids have always saved their stockings until the end of gift giving. They tell me it’s their morning highlights fill with laughs and surprises. I tried to stop several years back, but they pleaded with me to continue.
Holiday treats : wow can there be just one! š My great-grandmother came from Czechoslovakia and I believe some of the cookies we enjoy have roots there. I love Apricot Kolache, Ginger Snaps, Butter Cutouts, Walnut Bread, and so many more. My 2 year old granddaughter loves the strong taste of molasses and ginger. I need to try Sandyās cookies. I put a comment in couple days ago. Decorating the Christmas Tree is my Favorite to do. Because represents my past, present and future. My favorite Treat is making Ginger Snaps for my kids, they really like them. For myself is a mincemeat pie, put I’m the only one that eats it. So, I only make it at the holidays. I make one for Thanksgiving, eat half and freeze the rest till Christmas, brought up by a World War II mom, you don’t waste anything! Lol!! Thats why I have a huge scrap bin. My mom trained me well. If she was still here she would be trying to get me to make stuff for her miniatrue doll houses.

My favorite holiday treat is sugar cookies cut in Christmas shapes with large chunky sugar sprinkled on top. One year one of my high school students brought a huge bag of broken and partially burned Christmas sugar cookies. They were “rejects” from his grandmother’s baking for church. She had to bake 12 dozen decorated cookies! Every time he passed my classroom during class changes, I got more cookies from him. Then he brought me a big bag of my own!

My favorite holiday tradition was going toy shopping for charity with my daughter, my nieces, and my parents. The first year, my dad kept trying to put toys in the girl’s baskets and they finally told him “Grandpa, get your own basket!”. So he did. And then we would go and help serve Christmas eve dinner where the toys would be distributed. It really taught the girls about the joy of giving and to be appreciative of all that they had.
My favorite cookies to make in the holidays is molasses, but I don’t make them often because I will eat them all! Bad me.
My favorite Holiday traditions are in a remodeling state since my husband passed. I’m adjusting to and building a new life. My still favorite tradition is attending the church services, especially when they have multiple choirs and I get to hear the many Christmas hymns!
