Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser đ
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds â community quiltsâ. Over the years Iâve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a âfriendâ to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itâs a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereâs always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itâs a good thing.
Alzheimerâs research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10â more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. My favorite holiday tradition is cooking a huge meal for my family and friends with everyoneâs favorites and then after eating the meal we sit around and share stories and memories with the kids of Christmasâs past.
Almost forgot! Fav treat is sausage cheese balls! Or chocolate cake.
My favorite tradition is sharing a family meal with our kids and their friendsâŠand then playing games and laughing all night.
Tradition: My favorite holiday tradition is putting up the Christmas tree with my daughters. We pull out the decorations the day after Thanksgiving and spend the day together watching movies and decorating.
Holiday Sweet: I have a sweet tooth, so this is my favorite time of year. Besides many Christmas Cookies, my mom and dad would make the drive to their favorite chocolate store, and my parents would buy me a box of chocolate pecan turtles each Christmas.
We always try to have one day through the Christmas period when the whole family gatherâs together, but as the family grew, we have now to hire a room in a cricket club as no-one has room for us all at their home. đ
We all take food and have a lovely old fuddle. đ§đčđ§đ§đđđ„đđ„§

My favorite holiday tradition growing up was making popcorn balls with my sisters dad and mom. Mom always made the syrup coating,dad stirred the syrup over the popcorn and we made the popcorn balls for the upcoming holidays. I continued the tradition with my children and with grandpa making sure the syrup was evenly distributed. I still love popcorn balls and the memories.
My favorite holiday treat is sugar cookies made from my mom’s recipe. It all makes the holidays that much sweeter.

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is that our family still has stockings from Santa, even though we are mostly adults. My sister and brother in law provide the stockings for their young children and my mom picks one of the remaining sisters to act as Santa each year.

My favorite Holiday Tradition is displaying family decorations that remind me of my sweet departed relatives. My favorite Holiday Sweet is my Grandmother’s Molasses cookies. I always think of her fondly when making and eating these cookies <3 I never got to have a family of my own, so I hang on to these pleasant memories from my past. So comforting.

Favorite holiday tradition is bundling up and driving down 15 miles to Duluth, MN to see the amazing light display at Bentleyville! Bentleyville was started in my hometown, Esko, Mn by Nathan Bentley and when his fantastic array of lighted ornaments and lawn displays became to large he donated it to the City of Duluth (on the condition they never charge admission bc he didnât). One of my favorite family traditions is making homemade ornaments and crafts. I love decorating the house and sharing memories from Christmases long ago. Always counting our many blessings. I love sitting by the Christmas tree with the lights on and reading. So very peaceful.

My favorite Holiday tradition is watching the “Parade of Lights” the day after Thanksgiving night. Anyone can enter just so you are covered in lights. You can have a float or just drape yourself. It’s all beautiful and definetely gets you in the Holiday Spirit.

My favorite Thanksgiving tradition was cutting Christmas trees. My husband planted a couple of rows os blue spruce trees along our property line. My sister and her family and my family celebrated Thanksgiving together. After dinner all the kids(9) total and parents would go out and find that special tree. The kids have all grown up with families of their own as well as the trees growing to big to cut. This will always be a special memory/tradition for me.
My favorite Christmas sweet are the iced sugar cookies that I started making with my grandma RoseMary when I was about six. I now have gotten to carry on this tradition with my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Itâs great to remember my grandma.

My most favorite holiday tradition is making tamales with my children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren. We start just after Thanksgiving up until just before Christmas. Then Christmas Eve we all get together for a feast of Mexican food. Tamales, enchiladas, tacos, pintos, red chili and tortillas.
My favorite holiday tradition is turning off all the lights except the Christmas tree and siting in the dark taking it all in. So peaceful. My favorite holiday sweet probably is the “baked Alaska” my mother used to make. A layer of cake, Layer of ice cream and the meringue and it is baked very hot and quick so the meringue get toasted and warm but the rest is sealed inside!! YUM!
When my daughters were younger we would go to a tree farm and cut down a tree that we all could agree on. Much time was spent on that decision. Also we would make a list of Christmas cookies we would make together.

My favorite holiday treat I is gingerbread cookies
Boy oh boy did I have a tradition for Thanksgiving while I was raising my children.
I would start cooking two days before Thanksgiving.
I would start out making two pumpkin pies (my children and their dad loved those. I don’t eat them but I love making them because of how yummy they smell.) I made one Cherry pie which I mostly ate myself because it’s my most favorite of pies. Then I made a family masterpiece of a cake that has been passed down from one generation to the next. Currently there have been 5 generations making the “Italian Creme Cake” It’s a three layer cake that takes time to make due to the fact that if you don’t get the egg whites right, it can make the entire cake fail. My great grandmother made it, my grandmother, my mom, myself and now my three kids also make it. One of my daughters husband has also learned how to make it as well. If I had time on the first day I would also make cookie dough for making cookies the next day.
So day one is spent making the sweet treats.
Day two was spent making potato salad, deviled eggs, and baked beans.
Day three would start at 5am with me making/stuffing a chicken hen and also wrapping a smoked ham in pineapple rings and getting both into the oven. I would sleep in timed events so that I could baste the bird as it baked in the oven. After they had been baking for awhile I would get up and make a broccoli casserole, biscuits were also made along with giblet gravy for the bird/stuffing.
I made a enough food that five of us could graze from Thursday to Monday! It started out this way and had progressed. Many fond memories for the kids.
My favorite holiday tradition is making Teddy Bear bread. I did it with my children, and now I get to do it with my grandchildren.
My favorite holiday tradition was always making the pies for Thanksgiving dinner. Now we are down to just the two of us so it will be one pie instead of 5. Of course my favorite sweet is a good Christmas cookie. Who could resist??
