Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser đ
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds â community quiltsâ. Over the years Iâve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a âfriendâ to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itâs a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereâs always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itâs a good thing.
Alzheimerâs research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10â more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. Family gathering from near and far come together for Christmas Day at our house. We included people who were having a difficult time, such as divorce, loss of loved one or just all alone. The tradition has continued with our daughters and families. Share the blessing of family and friends.
I enjoy getting together to play games with family and friends.
My favorite is spending Christmas Eve with my children and grandkids we eat … open our gifts and have a photo with the grandkids. Would love to win
Our favorite holiday tradition is once Thanksgiving dinner is done we light the Christmas tree and everyone puts an ornament on it.
My favorite Holiday treat is fruit cake. All my family and friends who receive fruit cake bring their fruit cake.
My favorite tradition was having all our family together and everyone helping make all our favorite foods. Favorite cookie treat is making cookie dough batches and tinting one batch red then rolling them out into braids of 2 colors and twisting them together then forming into candy canes. Watching Christmas vacation and elf and the Christmas story movies
My favorite holiday tradition is decorating the tree. When my girls lived at home we would spend one evening decorating the tree with their ornaments (given to them over the years of Christmasâ). We would talk about some of the memories associated with each ornament, it would often take all evening but it was so much fun together.

My favorite Holiday Tradition is having our meal with family and friends. Spending time catching up with all. Holiday Sweet is my best friends Banana nugget cookies. Her mothers recipe, so good !
Oh my favorite treat is either krinkle cookies or hot chocolate with butter cookies.
We used to all sleep around the tree one night before Christmas after watching Christmas movies. It just got too hard for me to sleep on the floor lol. I hope my kids do this sometime with their kids.
My favorite Christmas treat is fudge. My mother made the best fudge with black walnuts in it. I would watch her cook it on the stove with the candy thermometer in the pan. I loved when it got to the soft ball stage and she would test a small piece in a cup of cold water because then she would let me eat the test piece. I have a friend, who has her own in home business, who makes all flavors of fudge. It is so delicious. Yum Yum
My family was very close, even my extended family. Every Christmas all the kids and grandchildren would get together at the grandparent’s house. The cousins all got reacquainted and fun and joy was had by all. I carried on that tradition with my children although the family was much smaller by then. Spending the day together with loved ones is such a joy to me.
This year we will work 4 hours at our local mission serving food and helping out. Family is a distance away. New tradition of helping and being thankful..

Our favorite Christmas tradition is putting up the nativity scene from my parent’s home. They bought it before I was born in the 50’s. It is cardboard and shows wear and tear from my parent’s eleven children.
My favorite holiday tradition was my sister and I helping our mom cut out, frosting and decorate with sprinkles all the sugar cookies…Santa faces, reindeers, Christmas trees and stars! My favorite holiday sweet today is Buckeye Balls, peanut butter balls dipped in melted semi sweet chocolate chips…de-lish!!, especially for a girl who loves everything peanut butter and chocolate!
My favorite holiday sweet is hard to pin down…love them all but I guess it would have been my mom’s apple strudel she would make each year. I would watch her make the dough, I would watch her stretch it and hear her complain about the holes and watch her fix them. It was so magical watching her fill the dough and sprinkle on the cinnamon etc. They made the house smell soooo good when they were baking and she would set them on the table to cool and I could see the raisins peeking out of the small holes they made while cooking….miss that also.
Favorite holiday tradition I started with my kids when we were short on money. On Christmas Eve we would go to church, drive around and look at all the pretty Christmas lights and when we got home we made Shirley temples in plastic Champagne glasses with snacks of meat, cheese, crackers. We got to eat in the front room around the coffee table and we could open one present from under the tree which I would pick because there were not many things were under the tree as Santa had not come yet. What I picked was a game for us to play until bedtime. I miss doing that.
I have 2 children. It has become a little tradition for me to join my daughter and her hubby in El Paso for Thanksgiving and then for them to join my son and his family and me in iIndianapolis for Christmas.

My favorite holiday tradition is when we can help someone in need. Back home in Illinois we volunteered to deliver Thanksgiving dinners to people in need of food. It’s so sad to see people that don’t have food or things they need. We also delivered food baskets to seniors for Christmas and went to Pre-K and gave toys and stockings filled with goodies. My favorite Christmas treat is the German gingerbread my Dad would make, complete with lemon sauce. Ogre maybe it’s his Rum cake. Or maybe it’s the litzler cookies……. all do good, hard to decide!

My favorite holiday tradition is preparing foods my Grandmother made for holiday meals such as ‘Potatoes on the half shell’ & ‘Stuffed Carrots’ also my husband makes his mothers’ ‘Childrens Cookies’ for his siblings, both are family favorites.
I also lived in W. Germany for 9 yrs. the best part was the delicious food and bake goods.

Our Christmas tradition is to buy the children a Lenox ornament . When my kids left home they took them. I continue the tradition with my grandchildren.

I always have a hard time thinking about traditions, but here are few things that might be considered. When my kids were young I got them a ornament every year. And I have done the same with my grandkids. We make gingerbread houses with the grandkids although now that theyâre older finding time is hard. Everyone taking a walk after dinner. Going for a drive to see Christmas lights. Making a Christmas ornament for my coworkers. So many little things that bring back memories of past Christmas. I really appreciate your tubes. My favorite thing about the holidays is getting together with family. I enjoy making special things for special. I make fruitcake cookies for my husband which no other family member will eat. We have made a new friend who likes them so we share them with her. The kids still make a big deal about Papaâs cookies.
My favorite holiday sweet is the Snickerdoodle cookies that we make. Instead of the cinnamon & sugar mix to roll the dough in before baking, we use the red and green decorator sugars. Each cookie ball is rolled in either the red sugar bowl or the green sugar bowl. It makes a festive cookie plate when served on Christmas Day.

My family tradition was to go and purchase a real Christmas tree from our church and all of us carrying it back to our apartment in New York City. We always seemed to get one that was too tall and my grandmother was the one who would saw off the top!!
We have a nativity scene that we purchased 54 years ago when we were first married that comes out at Christmas. As the days get closer to Christmas, the different characters appear in the scene. On Christmas morning, baby Jesus is in his manger and a few days later the scene is complete with the shepherd and 3 kings.

My favorite holiday tradition is to put up my Christmas village. My mom started me out many years ago with a few pieces and I’ve added to it over the years. It now has many houses, shops, streets with lights, and a frozen pond for skating. It’s not the holiday season until it’s up. It takes me all day.
