Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser đ
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds â community quiltsâ. Over the years Iâve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a âfriendâ to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itâs a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereâs always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itâs a good thing.
Alzheimerâs research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10â more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. I save my change and small bills all year and at Christmas I put the money in a pretty jar. I put it in a gift bag along with the book The Christmas Jar, some candies and have it delivered to a family in need of financial help. If I know the family my daughter or my pastor makes the delivery. I sign the card as a friend
Favorite holiday tradition is family gathering, visiting and catching up with each other, good food and making memories!
My favorite holiday tradition is getting out the Christmas tree and getting everything set up. We have a Christmas village we put on the mantel and I have a ton of snowmen that I spread throughout the house. My 19 year old daughter is really getting into helping now and has been on me since Halloween to get everything out.
My favorite Holliday tradition is spending time with the family and the Christmas cookies.
And sharing the cookies with friends and family.

Favorite tradition- sitting down and playing cards after the dishes are done from the holiday feast! Nothing beats sitting at the fully dressed dining table and being able to enjoy the beautiful table cloth and decorations, good fun and family.
Hi Pat, my favorite traditions are making popcorn and stringing it with cranberries and Haning it on the Christmas tree. My favorite treat is making different kinds of homemade fudge and other homemade candies with my dad every year.
My favorite holiday tradition is putting up the tree. I have collected ornaments over the years (decades?!) from family vacations, from friends, and just ones I like!
Growing up in Germany my brothers and I always had an advents calendar. We didn’t have stockings, we had a Bunter Teller! It is a colorful plate made out of heavy cardboard filled with goodies such as cookies, nuts, chocolates and always an orange and an apple! The cookies were my moms Spritzgebaeck! I always had to hide my Teller because my brother Siegfried would steal all of my chocolates!
My favorite holiday tradition was when my boys were little (33 & 29 now) we would drive around town and look at all the beautiful Christmas light displays! Some people even let you wander through their yard while drinking hot cocoa. Now that the are grown, the younger one lives across the country and the eldest lives 20 minutes away (I take care of his 3 year old daughter and soon Iâll also have his soon to be born son), there are no set traditions except getting together in person every 2 years with extended family!
My favorite holiday tradition is meeting up with all the family at my aunt and uncle’s house to celebrate Thanksgiving! Lots of food, fun and games – a tradition for 50+ years. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very Happy Birthday Pat!
My favorite holiday tradition is decorating our Christmas tree. My daughter and I play classic Christmas movies like Frosty and White Christmas while we carefully unbox and unwrap the ornaments, reminiscing about the special memories attached to each one. It’s a special time for both of us. My favorite holiday sweet is the yule log my mother makes. Such rich, chocolatey goodness… yum.
Hi Pat! Happy Thanksgiving! Our Christmas tradition is waking up on Christmas Day and having a cup of hot tea with a slice of Hungarian Poppyseed roll or nut roll. We enjoy and then open our presents. The cakes are made with a yeast dough and take all day to make as they need to go through two, one hour rise times. Enjoy your holiday!
My favorite holiday tradition is spending a day making candy and cookies with family and friends then dividing out into pretty containers or plates to give neighbors and coworkers. My favorite sweet is pumpkin pie.

My daughter and two young grandchildren live very close. My favorite holiday tradition is going to my daughter’s home early Christmas morning to be a part of the presents being opened. To watch the joy on my grandchildren’s faces is so wonderful! After the presents are opened, we have breakfast. I hope we continue this tradition for many more years.

My favorite holiday treat that I love to make and to give is divinity fudge, love how it swirls when it is made just right. I Also TV rolls are my favorite with my coffee in the mornings during holidays sitting early mornings in living room admiring my Christmas tree and having this treat, ( I called this holiday breakfast ). Also love sugar cookies and giving some to my grand kids or to anyone that is a kid at heart. Love watching your Youtube video it has become my morning ritual.
My favorite holiday sweet is peanut clusters. I make them with dark chocolate candy wafers and peanuts. That’s it. They are the best!
My favorite holiday tradition is filling up stockings for the kids and then watching them find out what Santa left for them in those stockings. As a child, I couldn’t wait to see in my stocking, and the tradition has continued with my own children and grandchildren. Love it.
Every year my girls and I get together after Thanksgiving, turn on Christmas music wear our Christmas sweaters (and antler headbands) and make all kinds of Christmas candies to pass out to friends. Love it!!
My favorite holiday tradition is getting together with our 8 grandkids and helping them make each other a Secret Santa gift. I have a decorated jar and each of them draws a name, I have a notebook that I write them in and at then they come over and we make something for the person whose name they drew. We have been doing this since they were big enough to glue something. They have come up with some creative ideas and challenged me quite a bit. They are teenagers now and it is getting harder to get them motivated to do it, sadly but I hope it is a fun memory they carry with them long after I am gone.
My favorite tradition was Santa coming on Christmas Eve and us spending Christmas morning doing church, grandma Kâs house then grandma Bâs house in the afternoon! I normally saw most of my aunts, uncles, & cousins on Christmas Day, which was super fun as a kid! Now I love waking up in my own bed and doing presents and breakfast with my own kids before going to church; and then after Mass is all about assembling Legos and the other toys!
Our family tradition goes back 3 generations that I know of. On Thanksgiving, after the big meal and the food coma, we bring in all the Christmas decorations. The day after Thanksgiving is Christmas tree decoration day – puts us all in great spirits for the coming holiday.
As for favorite sweets I’d have to say molasses cookies. And all the tins are lovely!

My fave holiday tradition is buying a real tree. I used to go pick it out, but my son usually buys it for me now. I just love the smell of a real tree! And how lovely the twinkling lights look shining in the dark. It’s a reminder of the Light of the World shining out of the world’s darkness!
My fave Christmas sweet is cranberry sauce! I know, it usually isn’t considered a sweet, maybe a condiment? But I just love the taste of cranberry sauce with turkey, gravy, real mashed potatoes and green beans! It’s kinda crazy I know. I just love cranberries! LOL

So many “favorite” holiday traditions: childhood at our grandparents with all the cousins. And then making our own traditions with my kids, decorating and baking with Christmas music playing. So many lovely sweets to choose from, but favorite has to be those little snowball cookies with the pecans in them and rolled in powdered sugar, so yummy

My favorite holiday tradition was family. Going to Grandmas house to be with aunts, uncles, cousins etc. The house was small so the men ate first, then went into the living room. Women and kids ate last and hung out in the kitchen. How we all fit in the small house, we donât know today but it was fun!!! And yes, I am a Virgina girl also!

My favorite holiday tradition is that my daughter makes cookies with all the cousins/nieces/nephews on Christmas eve. This started many years ago when my dtr was a teenager, her 2nd cousins did not have any cookies for Santa, so my dtr whipped up some sugar cookie dough and helped them make and decorate cookies for Santa. When the cousins got older and had kids themselves, they asked if they could make cookies for Santa on Christmas eve with my dtr, it has grown as the family has grown.
My family tradition for Thanksgiving is to wake up and watch the Macy day parade. Then we watch Star Wars episodes while preparing and cooking the thanksgiving meal.
