For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser 💕
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds “ community quilts”. Over the years I’ve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a “friend” to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. It’s a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it there’s always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others it’s a good thing.
Alzheimer’s research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10” more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. My favorite holiday tradition is putting up the Christmas tree. To me it represents family cause I have so many memories. When I was a kid, my family would go to a friend’s farm, and we would tromp the woods looking for the perfect tree. Of course, we kids always wanted one that had to be 15 feet tall, and my parents always had to convince us it would never fit our house. As it was, my Dad always had to trim the one we got.
My favorite treat is peanut butter fudge. I love peanut butter anything. But I do have a memory of lebkuchen. One year, my grandma gave my mom a recipe for the cookies. Mom thought they would be good, so she made them one afternoon while we were at school. The recipe had to have made a hundred cookies at least. We ate them for months but no one complained because they were so good. That’s the only time we ever had them, but I still have grandma’s recipe.
My favorite holiday sweet is Chocolate Covered Cherries – but not too many, because they are so, so sweet. Next is the Spritz cookies, but they have to have sprinkles on top. Ahhh, special treats are the best!
My favorite holiday tradition is making egg nog for me & the kids, they love it!!
Years ago I used to spend Thanksgiving night making fruit cakes! My uncle in Connecticut loved them! I don’t make them anymore!

Hi Pat, my favorite holiday tradition is having a family meal together and spending the afternoon together. My favorite holliday treat is Pecan Pralines, especially using the recipe my aunt gave me many years ago.
I really love singing all the Christmas songs. The fill me with joy and always lift my heart.
My favorite holiday treat is my homemade fruitcake. It’s loaded with lots of great fruits & nuts & has a soft, moist orange flavored batter. It is a special treat for this time of year.

My favorite tradition, when I was a child AND passed down to my children and the grands, was/is to have clam chowder (New England style) for supper on Christmas Eve.
My favorite holiday sweet is the “almond roca” my mum would make-I make it sometimes too still.
My husband doesn’t like turkey so I’ve never made one. Instead I make a HUGE home-made lasagna and we have that and garlic bread and whatever he wants for desert. It’s only the two of us now so there’s no need to do the kinds of meals we both grew up with. And there’s generally enough lasagna left for a couple of nights so I get a break from cooking, too. Win, win!

For almost 53 years we have gone to church on Christmas eve and come home to relax without company or going anywhere. A quiet family evening with each of our children opening only on gift before bed time. Of course ,now it is just me and my husband since the children are all grown. Christmas day is much busier, with 22 to 32 people for dinner! What a wonderful time of the year.
My favorite holiday tradition was making cookies for Christmas. The week before Christmas, I would make at least 2 different recipes each day and then divide them into tins and give them to the neighbors. After hurting my back several years ago I found I could no longer stand to make the cookies and could not do it sitting down. I really miss it. So winning a tin of cookies would be really nice.
My favorite holiday tradition is to have the whole family together. Now they are scattered from Hawaii to east coast and we’re on west coast, so I don’t know when we’ll all be together again…5 kids+spouses and 12 grandkids. Hold your loved ones close while you can!!
My favorite holiday tradition is having time with my grandkids individually, and creating dishes they LOVE for the holidays. I helped my 13 year old granddaughter create her favorite cranberry jello salad, my 8 year old create her favorite apple crumb pie, my 10 year old grandson create his amazing black berry pie with the blackberries we picked last August. Tomorrow with my 16 year old grandson we will make crostini. It’s alot of extra work, but so very rewarding! And our favorite holiday desserts are holiday cookies, home made candies and pies. My favourite Christmas tradition is decorating the tree with my twin granddaughters. I do the top of the tree with the very old, fragile decorations, some over 100 years old while the girls hang all the other ornaments. There is great discussion over the perfect spots.
My favorite holiday tradition was started by my step-daughter 18 years ago and we have a cookie day where all are invited. They bring cookies and candy for an exchange and it has been so fun to look at the pictures of past cookie days and see how much the grandchildren have grown and we now have a great, great grandson.

Our family’s holiday tradition begins the day after Thanksgiving. We would all get packed in the car the day after Thanksgiving and head out to the Christmas Tree Farm, which is 45 miles away. We would wander around the farm until we would find the “perfect” tree. While we waited for the tree to be wrapped and tied to the roof of the car, we would get a hot cocoa or hot spiced apple cider.
I would love to win a signed copy of this book! But, as a collector of tins, if I had my choice between the book and the tin of cookies, I would have to choose the cookies. Those tins that she designed are absolutely fantastic!

Favorite Holiday Treat, Pumpkin Pie, I never get tired of pumpkin pie. This year I bought a cooking pumpkin to try making it all from scratch! (of course I bought can pumpkin puree in case trying it from scratch is an epic fail, LOL!) I absolutely love the Leckerlee Lebkuchen cookies, I bought some last year after seeing them in one of your videos. They are addictive, soooo delish.
My favorite holiday tradition is for all my family that have gathered at my house on Christmas Eve to go to the Christmas Eve service at church after we have eaten dinner. Then we come back to exchange gifts and eat desserts.

Now that my children are grown with their own families, I have been decorating with my hubby. As I was typing this my daughter texted asking if they can come spend the night tomorrow…we had to postpone Thanksgiving until Friday…and they will help me decorate! So much to be thankful for!
