Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser đ
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds â community quiltsâ. Over the years Iâve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a âfriendâ to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itâs a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereâs always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itâs a good thing.
Alzheimerâs research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10â more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. My favorite holiday tradition was the Christmas dinner by candlelight with my family and then doing the midnight Mass. My favorite sweet was and is chocolate chip cookies and a chocolate chip cake.

My favorite Holiday tradition is having all of our family over for homemade soups, candies and hot cocoa. We play games, share memories and spend Christmas Eve together. Wonderful new memories every year.
My favorite holiday tradition is attending my sisterâs Christmas Eve open house. We have 4 young ladies in our family and my sister gives them PJs. The girls open their gift and immediately go up stairs to take off their pretty dresses and put on the PJs. Lots of pictures, fun and good times are had by all. Happy Holidays!
I love Christmas and the things I make are Italian goodies. I make a cholff and chuchoneal they are a light sugar dough fried and crispy. I learned the recipes from my Great Grandmom. Having these things for the holidays is such a great reminder of the family I come from.
My favorite holiday tradition was going to pick the Christmas tree. We would go out into the woods across the road, but the creek (Grandpa had permission to hunt and cut a tree there.) We would look for a “perfect” tree. Grandpa would always find a reason to chose a not so perfect tree…leaving the beautiful tree to grow taller and more beautiful every year. The best tree’s we had never had an exact branch to put the star on…lol…more of a Charlie Brown Christmas. But now, looking at the imperfect, lopsided trees, I realize, I was taught to appreciate the beauty of the not so perfect tree…and like wise I have learned to love the not so perfect people in my life. Life lessons learned by choosing a Christmas tree.
Our favorite Thanksgiving tradition is meeting up with our good friends and going for a walk. We then head back to one of our houses and have a light breakfast. We’ve been doing this for over 20 years. It’s a great way to start Thanksgiving day.
For Christmas, we love heading to the Woodland Park Zoo here in Seattle and seeing the Zoo lights. Walking around the zoo after dark is fun. You hear the animals settling in and the different sounds they make at night. The lights are fantastic and the themes change as you make your way through the park.
My favorite holiday treat at Christmas is chocolate covered cherries. So good!
Favorite sweet Thanksgiving and Christmas is making and eating my grandmas Pumpkin Chiffon pie. It melts in your mouth! The whole family wants at least two pies.
My favorite holiday sweet is my pecan pie. I use a frozen crust and my Betty Crocker cookbook recipe. I usually put some honey in it, but just in case they give my grandson a taste I left it out this year.
My favorite holiday tradition is to decorate my Christmas tree with my son and his wife. I love seeing him remember all of the special ornaments and show them to his wife. I put pictures of him in ornaments until he was grown. He calls them “Tommy heads”. He said that I have to get some for my grandson now.

My best friend of 59 years, Grace, and I exchange fruitcakes. We take great pride in being the only two remaining lovers of fruitcake who will admit it out loud. Neither of us feels obligated to share the cake with others. Every delicious calorie is mine-all-mine!
My favorite thing to do is share with family what I’m thankful for while sipping on hot coco. We all share what each one is thankful for. It’s family time around a toasty fire. Making new memories. So humbling.
We have a couple traditions, one is the Christmas elf, we have 3 that are very old and they move around and report to Santa, and we have a Christmas pickle and the one that finds it in the tree receives an extra gift. Now the next generation has started these traditions!

My holiday tradition has always been an Advent Calendar. From the time I can first remember until now, so around 75 years!!
A favorite holiday tradition since I was a kid was to drive around town to look at the Christmas light displays while singing Christmas songs. We have continued this tradition with our 5 boys and I am happy to say that they do that with our grandchildren.
I am a musician, as was my mother and I love to be involved in performing the Christmas music each year. My mother had a beautiful soprano voice and was asked every year to sing O Holy Night and I got to be her accompanist for several years. Over 30 years ago she was involved in a car accident on Thanksgiving Eve and was seriously injured. By Christmas Eve that same year she stood at a family party and sang O Holy Night with two broken arms and a lung that was injured in the crash. I think there was not a dry eye at that gathering because we all realized what a blessing it was that she survived that accident because a Christmas without her beautiful voice would have been devastating.
My favorite holiday tradition is spending a lazy afternoon with my family after weâre finish dinner.

My favorite holiday Memory is baking cookies with my Mom. We made so many cookies, we had big tins of them. I still bake the sugar cut out cookies. It is a recipe from my Great Aunt. A couple years ago, my Daughter and Grandsons came over and we baked cookies. So much fun!!
My favorite holiday tradition is going to a movie with my family on Thanksgiving and Christmas. The choice has varied and evolved over the years – from Disney to superheroes to “Glass Onion” tomorrow – but we have a shared love of movies that leads to lively discussions and memories.
My favourite holiday tradition is having my children and their partners and the grandkids at my place for Christmas breakfast. Everyone arrives and we eat then open presents from all the family. After that is over then everyone heads to other places for lunch. We all have such a great time together and the mess isn’t cleaned up until just before everyone leaves. Cricket in the back yard is always a great time.

My favorite Holiday tradition is also my favorite treat – Butterscotch Pie. It’s my great grandmother’s recipe, handed down through the years until my daughters, who are now the fifth generation, have learned to make it. We might be the only family still using double boilers. Ha! No one even looks at pumpkin pie – it is butterscotch all the way!
My favorite holiday tradition is stocking on the mantle! We started it when our children were young and I just get so much enjoyment from looking for small gifts to go in the stockings.

The best holiday tradition is having family home to celebrate Christmas. Buying a new tree ornament that represents each child and adding heir name and year to it. They generally pick their own which adds to the fun. Now they are grown but I continue this.
I’m the baker in the family. So for the holidays it always smells so good as I prep.
My favorite holiday tradition is driving around looking at Christmas lights. My Dad used to take us as kids. There are several neighborhoods that have houses that put on light shows/displays. We stop for hot chocolate, then drive around and enjoy! When my son was in high school, he put on a light show for a couple of years and families would stop by our house to enjoy! (Luckily we have great neighbors because it brought a lot of traffic!).
