Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser š
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds ā community quiltsā. Over the years Iāve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a āfriendā to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itās a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereās always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itās a good thing.
Alzheimerās research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10ā more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. My favourite holiday tradition was all the family getting together on Christmas Eve. It is harder now that everyone is living so far away. My favourite holiday treat is shortbread cookies, they just melt in your mouth!!!
This sounds amazing! Wish I had thought of it when my daughter’s were little, because the anxiety is real. I had an idea… young mom’s are busy, busy women in this day & age, if I were you I would buy 12 little gifts, wrap them and send them to your daughter!! Then she can reflect on her Memories and feel the excitement with her daughter. I think I may start this for my 1 granddaughter who live near us in Michigan š
My favorite holiday tradition is using my mom’s and granny’s bowls and platters to serve Christmas dinner. We also use the silverware that was a wedding gift to my husband’s parents.

favorite Christmas sweet is the wonderful jam cake my Mom used to make. It was a beautiful 3 layer so moist and yummy with the filling of homemade blackberry jam.Sounds so good here I may just have to bake one.
My favorite holiday tradition is driving around the are to see all the beautiful decorated homes. In St Louis entire neighborhoods have every house decorated with Christmas music playing and bonfires to warm by.
Tradition: When the kids were small, husband decided to put the tree in their room. They would go to bed early, just to snuggle in their beds, looking at the lights, until they would fall asleep. They couldnāt wait to go to bed!
Treats: My Sisters and I would get together to make and decorate sugar cookies for the family. Itās hard to do want to do them by yourself now.
Oooo. So many questions for all of these awesome gifts!! My favorite holiday tradition…my children are grown and have children of there own. Every year since they have been old enough to eat them I have given them a Lifesaver storybook treat. I forgot one year and boy they sure let me know! My favorite holiday tradition is decorating every room in my home and outside, and watching the movie Miracle on 34th Street. I even have a cane next to my fireplace!
My favorite holiday was when us kids all 8 of us would go to the woods, not our woods, We didn’t know how owed the woods and would cut down a tree. Had to drag it out of the woods. But it was a lot of fun. Mon would ask where did you get the tree and we would say in the woods, Mom said but we don’t have a woods. I said well it was someone’s woods.

We didn’t really do many “traditions” growing up except for having endless fruit and nuts available from Christmas to the New Year. As we got older we begged until we were allowed to open one small gift on Christmas eve, that became a tradition.
Our favorite family tradition is a night out for pizza then driving all around to look at Christmas lights!
My favorite holiday sweet is caramel corn. I enjoy everything about it, including making up the batches and adding in peanuts or another salty complement. It’s also fun to make cute little packages and cards for giving. Such fun!

My favorite Christmas tradition is telling the story of baby Jesus with all the family gathered around. Last year, we used our nativity pieces to help our 3 young grandsons get a better visual idea of Mary, Joseph, the wise men, the farm animals, and of course, baby Jesus. It was really sweet and special!!!

My favorite holiday sweet are cookies I lovingly refer to as PITA Cookies (Pain In The “Tuchus!”) These date/nut filled cookies are my son’s favorite and they were my father’s favorite. The filling is easy, but it is encased in a soft cake-like rolled dough – and that’s why they are such a pain to make. But they ARE delicious a d leftover filling is wonderful in a bowl of winter time oatmeal. They are my favorite holiday treat beacuse they are beloved by two of my favorite men!

My favorite holiday tradition currently is attending the candlelight Christmas Eve services with my entire family. As a child, we attended midnight mass in our new Christmas outfits. Loved being able to dress up in our beautiful dresses which were usually sewn by my mother, new tights, our party patten leather shiny shoes and of course a lacy head covering. Magical!

My favorite holiday treats are gingerbread men. I love to bake but do not find any joy in decorating. I bake oodles of gingerbread men each Christmas and donāt decorate them at allā¦not even a cinnamon red hot. In my family gingerbread men are now referred to as naked men. š
My favorite holiday tradition is my Dad making bagna cauda, a garlic and anchovie dip, and all of us gathered around dipping Dadās homemade bread into the bagna cauda. We only have it once a year at Christmas and have done this since I can remember. Wonderful memories!

My favourite tradition is baking the Christmas Cake from my mom’s recipe. She passed away in 2020, and baking the cake brings back memories of her and I chopping all the ingredients when I was a child. It makes me feel like she is still around, when I make the cake.

Hello, Pat! My favorite holiday tradition has to do with my Swedish heritage. We have Swedish items in the menu – Swedish rye bread, potato bologna, spritz cookies and ostkaka (Swedish cheesecake). It warms my heart to have these treats that have been handed down in our family. š„°
On Christmas Eve my family always had Oyster stew, ham sandwiches and a crab salad. My family has carried on this tradition and look forward to the meal at supper time. One of my favorite holiday traditions is making Spritz cookies. I use an old cookie press my Dad gave me over 40 years ago. I have tried newer fancier ones and I always come back to this one. I made them with my sons when they were younger and I now make them with my grandkids. Spritz cookies are my favorite sweet and I look forward every year to making them. I can never have too many Christmas cookies.
