Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser 💕
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds “ community quilts”. Over the years I’ve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a “friend” to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. It’s a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it there’s always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others it’s a good thing.
Alzheimer’s research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10” more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. The one tradition I truly love is just getting together. In these busy times it seems like it takes a holiday to get family in one place for a day. (but I will still be down one because of his work) I truly love watching them all smiling laughing, catching up telling tales and sometimes trying to out do each other. Now I know why my grandma was always smiling while cooking – serving and cleaning up afterwards. I am now that grandma. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.
My favorite Holiday treat is Pecan Pie. I use a recipe passed down from my Grandmother. All of my kids love it and I have to make an extra pie so everyone can take a slice home!
My favorite Holiday tradition always includes the food. Pies, cookies and the big meal with family!
My favorite holiday tradition is lighting the Menorah. The best day is the last day when all of the candles are lit!
Some of my favorite traditions were putting up the tree and decorations on Black friday and making cookies with the kids and grandkids- always my mom’s gingerlace along with cut out sugar cookies and peanut butter blossoms.
I do love the German ginger cookies!
Favorite Tradition: My gramma coming from California and bringing homemade sugar cookies.
Favorite Sweet: The above sugar cookies. My gramma made some with icing and some without, but she put sprinkles on both. She also brought red licorice. Yum!
My favorite tradition is putting together stockings for everyone gathered on Christmas Eve. This is a tradition passed down from my Mom. Stockings are just filled with simple, useful, fun items.
So many yummy things at Christmas, but one of my favorites were the homemade Mexican wedding cookies we made that melt in your mouth!
My favorite Holiday tradition is to hide a pickle ornament on the treee for one the kids to find (an old German tradition). Love to see the response once one of them finds it!
My favorite holiday tradition is taking all my kids and my grandkids to pick out their Christmas ornament. I love to see their face once the find the one that they want. My peanut butter balls seems to be everyone’s favorite holiday sweet. I can’t seem to make enough of them. Happy Holidays!
My favorite tradition was going to the tree farm with the 4 kids and bringing home the chosen tree to decorate with all the ornaments collected over the years.
My favorite tradition for the holidays is driving through the neighborhoods looking at all the lights and decorations.
I’m traditional I guess but I love making cookies. When my kids were little we would make cookies and as they grew we still made them. After awhile we had friends how joined in.Now I do it with my 7 grand children. We have a special sugar cookie that uses sour cream and it’s so….. good!

My favorite Holiday Tradition was decorating our house for the holidays! I would always begin by checking to see if the lights for the Christmas tree were working. I also was the gift wrapper for my siblings presents. My mother always gathered the ingredients for baking Christmas cookies and candies that were very tasty! Our family would gather in the living room near the Christmas Tree on Christmas morning to open our gifts! So many precious memories! Sure miss those days!

Favorite holiday tradition is setting up the Christmas tree with Owen and my favorite sweet is, and always has been, peanut clusters! Good luck everyone! Owen’s favorite is a tie between pie and Christmas cookies. It does not matter what holiday it is, he always asks to make Christmas cookies.
Favorite tradition is Santa PJs that Santa leaves for the kids on Christmas Eve. He sneaks in and rings the jingle bell, and the kids find the PJs on their beds. Started this when my son and daughters were very small about 40 years ago. Now it’s done for the grandkids. Still can’t figure out how Santa does it without being caught.
I make a cookie called a pecan crisp, which was taught to me by my mother-in-law and her mother years ago. It is my husband’s favorite. It is very labor intensive and does not always turn out right; therefore, I don’t make it very often! Pat, I love your Puzzle Box quilt! I like to put out Christmas quilts and table runners. I have given away most of them and need to get busy and make more!
my favorite tradition was getting together Christmas Eve with my family my Grandfather would be santa and hand out the gifts one at a time, it just isn’t the same since he has been gone. My favorite treat was old fashioned fudge that my Uncle used to make it was so good, we always looked forward to it
My favorite holiday tradition is getting together with our extended family. It is so large we have to rent an elementary school nearby. We chat and eat in their cafeteria and afterwards the kids can run around the gym and play.
When my kids were little, up to about 12 yrs old, I would make them a stuffed toy and put it by their doors for their first gift of Christmas. The you’d all still exist 30+ years later!
My family always has had to share Holidays❣️ My children coined the Holiday as Thanksmas, because we usually want one day and have presents the next. This year it is in November so Thursday lunch and Friday morning cinnamon rolls and presents📍

My favorite Christmas tradition is our Christmas Stockings (bags, really). One year, when the kids were younger, I couldn’t find their stockings so I used paper grocery paper bags and decorated them the kids loved them so much that the tradition has stuck some 15+ years later!
My favorite Holiday Sweet is Fudge. My mother always made homemade Fudge, Peanut Brittle, Anise Candy Cane Cookies, Butterscotch Freezer Cookies, Peanut logs and Chocolate Chip cookies for the holidays when I was younger for Christmas every year I would help and sometimes just watch as she baked these goodies for our family to enjoy with hot cocoa! I sure miss those days from years ago! Precious memories for now!
Scotcheroos made for me by my precious aunt Shirley. She knew the pies were not my favorite so she made these for me. I did the same for my littles. Now, they’re doing it for theirs!! Yum. I’m about to make them today though only 1/2 batch as our numbers are small this year and I can’t tempt myself with a whole pan!!

My favorite holiday treat is my mother’s cheesecake. It’s an old family recipe (one that doesn’t include icky cream cheese, or even ricotta), but it is top secret. I literally had to promise my mother I would never share the recipe outside of our family before she would give it to me! The cheesecake is very different than what most people know, and the first comment I get from most who try it is, “…unexpected.” But, to date, everyone has liked it.
My favorite tradition is attending the Christmas Eve service. It puts everything in its place. I was unable to attend for the past 4 years while taking care of my husband, but will be planning on it this year.

Favorite holiday tradition is making iced and decorated sugar cookies with the grandkids. We’ve been doing this for at least ten years, so now the oldest ones are actually helpful and don’t drown the cookies in sprinkles 😁!
My favorite holiday tradition is looking at the home holiday lights with my grandkids. Some neighborhoods have a whole street of fantastic holiday lights and we get out of the car to walk and enjoy the lights. Some streets have music playing. Then we go home and have hot cocoa.

My favorite holiday tradition was going out the day before Christmas heading to the Christmas tree lot and picking out our tree and bringing it home and decorating. I lived with my grandparents, brother, Mom and aunt wonderful beautiful memories.

My favorite holiday tradition is spending time with family, opening presents in turn from youngest to oldest.
As a child (one of 13), we kids would “scheme” to get hold of our stockings after Santa left. For weeks ahead, we held secret meetings and planned every detail. We drew the layout of the house, paying particular attention to everyone’s bedroom. We would charge the one whose bedroom was the farthest from Mother’s & Father’s room (so they didn’t hear it) to set his/her alarm clock. That person would, in turn, wake someone else, who would wake someone else, etc., and we would all sneak out – quiet as church mice (our scheming also included finding any squeaky floorboards beforehand) to the living room to snatch our stockings and bring them back to our beds before tearing into them. As a little one, it was all very exciting and very daring! I think we especially liked the part about getting to the living room and back without our parents ever knowing! That is, until my mother told our adult selves that she and Father heard us every single year, and they used to lie in bed laughing at all the energy we put into our plot. NEVERTHELESS, I taught my children how to “scheme,” and they have taught their children! It’s still great fun for me knowing that the tradition lives on!!!!
We have oysters dressing every Thanksgiving.
So glad your give away includes those outside the US. The download version of this book would be fabulous. We dont have many holiday traditions but we always spend Chrsitmas Eve with my in laws. My FIL has passed but every Christmas Eve i can still hear him singing Holy Night – he wasnt a very good singer but the memory warms my heart!
My favorite holiday treat is frosted sugar cookies , my fondest memory was when my oldest son was about 3 , I had baked cookies and he was helping me decorate them , frosting goes on , sprinkles go on , and a bite gets taken out of every cookie. Everyone enjoyed their cookies with a bite taken out❤️
So many traditions in my holiday doins’. I make Chocolate crinkle cookies for my daughter’s Christmas package every year. We put up the huge rebar star made in metal shop by my son in Jr. High in our bay window. It is wrapped in twinkle lights and is so pretty when we come home at night and see it. Those cookies look wonderful! Thank you, Pat, for sharing them with us.
Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday, I love fixing the whole dinner and making my late Husbands an Apple pie.
