It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser đ
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds â community quiltsâ. Over the years Iâve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a âfriendâ to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itâs a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereâs always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itâs a good thing.
Alzheimerâs research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10â more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. My favorite holiday tradition is gathering my granchildren around me to talk about the grandparents they never got to meet, and then giving them a handmade stocking with a theme of those ancestors. For example, this year I made wool stocking with appliqued owls sitting on a snow covered branch with red berries. The owl correlates to a story about their great grandpa, and the berries were made from a red wool coat, a favorite of their great grandma. Their anticipation fills my heart with love!
My favorite holiday tradition has always been drinking my late Mamawâs hot Russian tea with her. She shared the recipe with me, and I continue the tradition with younger generations.
The last time I set up my Hummel Nativity was the year of the Northridge earthquake in California. I had just packed it up and the earthquake hit that night. It would have been destroyed. I never put it out again. This year we are living in Tennessee and the Nativity will be back! I’m very excite to unpack it all and enjoy it in my new home. My favorite Holiday tradition is decorating the Christmas tree- now I do with with my grandkids. Our newest tradition is making gingerbread houses of different themes, generally starting with kits and embellishing them. This year we started early with a gingerbread farm and chicken coops. We also make some sort of ornaments. So far this year, we made borax crystal ornaments. We almost always attend our church’s Christmas Eve service and look at lighted houses.
Pecan pie is my favorite treat for every holiday I can think of! I would love to have the book and a tin of cookies.
My favorite holiday tradition is Christmas Eve Brunch with all of our kids, grandkids and great grand kids. We draw names and exchange gifts.
My favorite Holiday tradition is New Yearâs family get together. We all arrive on New Yearâs Eve, have a great meal then gift exchange and games. After a midnight lunch, we camp in the family room with air mattresses and sleeping bags. There usually are at least 3 generations. Since we all live in different places, this is our way to connect all the generations together. We look forward to our gathering all year. Because of COVID we have not been able to meet, but this year itâs a go. Have a great holiday everyone.

Favorite Holiday Tradition is spending the time with my family. We try to still get together for either Thanksgiving or Christmas every year.
My favorite holiday treat is Blueberry Pudding, which is more like a cake than pudding. My dad used to make it every year for Christmas.

My favorite holiday tradition is hiding a pickle in the Christmas tree, an old German tradition. At first, I used a large, whole dill pickle and hung it in the tree. Now, I use a pickle ornament. It would keep the kiddos busy for hours looking for it on Christmas morning. The winner always received a box of chocolates. Fun times!
My favorite holiday sweet is Russian Teacakes. Some people call them Mexican Wedding Cakes. My mom always made them and in her later years, she always gave me a tin of them for my birthday. Now, that she has passed, my daughter has taken over the tradition of making the cookies. Only 2 more weeks until my Russian Teacakes show up for my birthday!!
I love to make Christmas cookies with my husband’s grandmother’s recipes.
We love to go to the small town Christmas parade with tractors, big trucks and hot rods. Granddaughters love it.
My favorite holiday tradition is playing my favorite David Clydesdale music cd while decorating our home for Christmas.
And although I donât make our Christmas dinner anymore I still make green bean casserole and hash brown casserole every year to take to our daughterâs house.

My favorite holiday sweet… EVERYTHING!! If it is sweet I love it. Cookies, Candies, pies, cakes and anything sweet. LOL must haves are Coconut cream pie, Chocolate cream pie, pumpkin pie, Pecan pie..Sugar cookies, choco chips and fudge.
Holiday Sweet….We celebrate St. Nicholas Day, Dec 6 with a gingerbread cookie like Leckerlee. I love them so much that even though I live in Canada I would travel across the border to pick them up from family. They are so so yummy.

My favorite holiday trade is to set up my ” village” of ceramic buildings and houses. Even though the new cat has blocked the use of my sofa table for part of the village, I still enjoy having this “town” set up all around the living room.

Holiday sweetsâŚâŚjust oneâŚ..who has just one??? Cookies, cookies, cookies! Mom must have made six different kinds and douse s of each. I knew where she hid the fudge from my brothers. Her homemade cinnamon rolls were the best. Pies, Apple and Blackberry/Blueberry mix (the best), and cakes. My Mom was a baker. In fact that was my chore on Saturday mornings. I had to bake 4 dozen cookies for the week and do the ironing. I would chat with my girlfriends when possible, with the cord that dangled across the room. My Momâs homemade Cinnamon Rolls and the Blackberry/Blueberry Pie warm with vanilla ice cream. Top two. Miss you Mom

My favorite Holiday tradition is making sausage stuffing (no recipe–just kind of put together the way my Mother always did). Everyone always loves it and I keep it special by only making it at Thanksgiving.
I love to bake. We have a favorite cut out Christmas cookie whick makes dozens of cookies. Each child would get a chance to roll the dough. We would all put our cookie cutters of choice on the dough. After they are all baked we would each get a big sheet of wax paper to work over and have a wonderful time decorations them all.
Fast forward, all of our children are grown with families of their own and they are all gathered around their table using the same recipe decorating their cut out cookies.
Traditions Make the holidays extra special
Mine might sound a lil off but my favorite holiday tradition is cooking and spending Christmas day with my family. My parents are gone on to Glory but my sister and our families have spent every Christmas Day at my house together since 1966. Prior to that my sister and I had spent every Christmas day together. She is 80 and I am almost 75. I cherish that and my sister.
My favorite holiday tradition is making cookies. One year I made 24 different kinds. I usually share some with friends and family. I don’t make as many now that I am older but my favorite sweet treat to eat has always been cookies and homemade are the best. My favorites are Egg Nog cookies and White Chocolate Cranberry. YUM!
Favourite holiday tradition is cutting down the Christmas tree and putting it up on Christmas Eve morning and celebrating the 12 days of Christmas. đ
My favorite holiday tradition is family gatherings. So many other things but being with family playing games, making ornaments, gingerbread houses, cutting snowflakes, seeing the beauty of the lights, laughing, decorating, matching homemade pajamas, singing carols, watching movies, and mostly remembering the reason for the season. I love it all!!

My favorite holiday tradition is our family dinner on Christmas Eve,Eve. There are 26 of us now so itâs a hullabaloo but very fun. We used to have the littles act out the nativity, but we donât have any littles anymore so we all read it together from the scriptures.
On Christmas Eve my husband reads the Christmas story from Luke. The smaller children act out the parts and put on a play. We enjoy everyoneâs company with dinner and gift exchange. I love Christmas.
Early in December we make cookies, candied nuts, fruit cakes and candy to give to our neighbors. My favorite cookies are pumpkin chocolate chip.

My favorite tradition at Christmas is getting out live tree.. It starts with a cup of hot chocolate in hand! My husband and I have been married for 42 years now and have a history of xtree hunting. Our early years it took so long for an agreed tree while our daughter ran below the trees! She still laughs about that! Now older and wiser we have come to both pick out the same tree at first choice!
Once we get it home I always have to hang the snoopy ornament up! It brings me so much joy.

My most favorite tradition was memories of my 2 Grandmas working together in the kitchen talking a little bit German, and English mixed. There was lots of laughter and much happiness. I had forgotten all about Lebkuchen until today and remember wondering what that was on the bottom, all white and crisp, but you could eat it, too! My favorite cookies were Russian Tea Cakes, Oatmeal Date Bars, and my favorite January treat was to save those Pfeffernusse until they were hard as rocks and dip them in my coffee…so special. This will be the first year I don’t make Stollen because there is no one left who loves it like I do.

Our family tradition started when my Father was in the Navy and we would be living away from our hometown. Chinese food for our Christmas Eve meal. Weâd head out to dinner and enjoy our time as family and then have a blessed Christmas Day. Was we all have families of our own, my husband was also Navy and weâd have Chinese for Christmas Eve . Now my children will sometimes do the same but if we are gathering at my house, yes they all want Chinese for Christmas Eve dinner. Why Chinese food, you ask, where ever we have lived in our military life, there has alway been a Chinese place and they stay open on Christmas Eve .
My favorite holiday tradition is the first night we light up a huge wreath on the front of the house. We have a spotlight that makes it look so serene in the dark nights.
My family’s Christmas tradition is for my dad to read the story of Jesus’ birth from Luke’s gospel. When small children are eagerly waiting to open gifts, it can be quite a challenge, but it’s always a blessing to be with family!
My favourite holiday tradition is to get together with my best girlfriend, a bottle of wine, and we each have a jar in which we have put little notes during the year to make sure we chat about when we get together. It may be something that we have already talked about during the year but just a little reminder of something to be thankful for that we have already shared but is now a memory. This get together usually turns out to be hilariously funny. Maybe itâs the notes and maybe itâs the wine and maybe itâs just being in the same room with my best friend. Itâs one of the best Christmas gift ever.

My favorite thing to do for Christmas is all of it, baking cookies with adult children, and the laughter we shore, decorating the tree and putting the village under that same tree. But the most favorite, is just having the time with our adult children. With their busy lives we don’t get that relax time very often.
Our favorite holiday tradition is Christmas Eve, I make a huge dinner, everyone can come in their PJs. We watch Christmas movies, have hot chocolate and cookies in the evening. I give my daughtersâ their ornaments that represented something for the year that was remember able. Plus we exchange gifts with the rest of the family. When our girls were little, staying in PJs was the best thing and we just made it a tradition. Seriously, family come in their PJs to relax and enjoy each otherâs company đâ¤ď¸
We have a few family favorite cookies that must be made every year: Snowballs, tea cookies (Yum!), chocolate chip and butterscotch cookies. Everyone has their favorite made every yearđâ¤ď¸So another tradition!!
My favorite holiday sweet is cut out Christmas sugar cookies. This recipe has been in my family for many generations. They are fun to make and decorate. I have been making these either my grandchildren for several years now.
My favorite holiday tradition is baking favorite family Christmas recipes. I have the cookbooks and recipe boxes from both grandmothers and a couple of great-grandmothers on both sides of the family. I love how happy it makes my parents, who are now in their ’80s, when I recreate special treats, with tastes and smells that they remember from their childhoods. Pfefferneusse, cardamom coffee cake, (real) mincemeat pies … So delicious, and special memories!
My favorite holiday tradition is family getting together for the day. For so many years we were away from our extended family because of distance or circumstances. Now we make it a point to be together.
At my age; only take out deliveries. In past, pecan pie was my favorite. Our quilting guild has several charities we make quilts, pillow cases, bags, and etc for each year. The guild and our extensive community service initiatives were featured by WUFT News â a wonderful salute on the eve of our 2022 Community Service In-gathering. This is the annual event when we gather and sort hundreds of our handmade quilts, totes, pillowcases, and medical dolls for distribution to nonprofit organizations throughout Alachua County.
