My favorite place to stitch is in a campground, I always take a bit of hand stitching along. When my mom & dad came camping with us, mom and I would sit and sew small blocks together by hand, after hiking. Pieces were all cut ahead of time, we made like little kits for ourselves. I miss that time together. It was always a treat when other campers would come visit our site to see what we were doing. It surprises me how many quilters go camping and hiking!

Not my favorite place to cross-stitch: pre-pandemic when waiting on the wooden bench outside of Walgreens for the taxi back to my house, I would cross-stitch and/or knit to pass the time — sometimes many hours waiting. The best part while facing the parking lot was viewing the hills surrounding our valley, the sometimes-passing clouds in the sky, feeling the breeze, watching/listening to the birds, and the bit of conversation with customers going to and from Walgreens.
I like to stitch on my balcony in the summer. Itβs peaceful and Iβm getting fresh air too.
Currently I am working on an embroidery project. I love when I get the opportunity to get in a couple stitches on my break at work lol.
My favorite place is in the sun room. Since I move to the house I love to sit here and look the beautiful back yard, listen the bird singing and cross stitch. It is my peaceful place and gave thanks for every new day.
Pat, your Summer Block #3 is a lovely pattern with lovely colors and prints. I absolutely definitely would do the blue blocks. For me, these three block patterns are soothing.
Just getting back into cross stitch due to your inspiration!! But only do it on the couch because thatβs where I have the best light.
My favorite place to stitch is in my rocking chair in our living room. But I used to sit in the swing on the porch. A few years ago when I broke my leg I finished a set of 4 Chinese characters with flowers while laid up on the bed. Thanks Pat for all that you do!
I am currently enjoying stitching outside in the mornings while it is still somewhat cool. I stitch under an outdoor canopy while my students are at recess. I get a lot of questions such as “What are you doing?” “Why are you doing that?” Hopefully I will spark some interest in cross stitching. I just wish I could bring my quilting projects. πππ
I love to stitch in my comfy chair while out camping. Thanks Pat for all you do!!!!!
I like to stitch in our RV as we travel around the USA. I also like to stitch at childrenβs ball games and other out door events.
I like to stitch at my kitchen table where I can lay out all my supplies. (I don’t know how unusual that spot is??)
I used to cross-stitch during dental continuing education seminars. Now I just do it on the sofa or on the deck.
I stitch in the car when travelling to keep busy, but I also love to stitch when we go camping! Love camping, love stitching π
in the evening my back yard is nice and cool with a breeze. Buddy, Angel and Paco love to go out and play in the 40 x 70 yard made especially for them. I have a back porch and also a swing in the yard and I sit on one of them and stitch for about an hour so that I get fresh air and the pups get worn out for the night.
if it is raining we sit on the front porch and they bark at the cars going past and I get to wave between stitches as my neighbors pass my home.
Love your sew-a-longs.
I like to cross stitch in the daylight – and it is a great project to take on the go!
I stitch in front of my computer, wearing Vision Aid magnifiers. I can look down and see my stitches, and look over the top to see videos, movies, etc. online.
I think I love cross stitch because you can bring it just about anywhere. A cozy chair by the fire place in the winter and at the lake in the sunroom just about any season. I have even stitched by the campfire. Is there really a bad place to create?
My favourite place to stitch at this time of year is in my outdoor screen room ! Love being outdoors!
I haven’t cross stitched as much as I used to (because I started quilting) but have been looking for new projects to stitch. I’ve often stitched at our small cabin that my husband’s parents built the year I was born. Some years ago. we built a large screened-in-porch on the back of it and I love to quilt and stitch there. I also like to stitch when we take our pop-up camper to the lake for a couple of days. Through the years I have had projects that I only worked on when we were away from home. Always something ready to pick up and take with me.
Love that you used to Volksmarch! Itβs all over the world and we have a tiny club here in New Mexico. As far as stitching, zilike to do it in my sewing room, looking out the window to see my bird feeders and flowering shrubs.
My place to stitch is not much out of the ordinary. It is sitting on the couch with my husband while watching TV in the evenings.
My favorite place to stitch is sitting on my deck on a nice sunny day with a slight breeze blowing listening to the birds singing their songs. Although not out of the ordinary, that is my favorite place.
My favourite place to stitch is by the seaside near where we live. My husband fishes and I stitch under the trees with a lovely view of the water. Here in Australia it is often too hot for me ( a redhead) to sit in the sun so if I can find a nice shady spot I’m as happy as can be.
Hi Pat! Well my ordinary is at the kitchen table in the evening after dinner, with a Day Go light and magnifier. My eyes aren’t what they used to be. So, out of the ordinary is anywhere else I guess. My favorite place is in the morning while it’s still cool out, and in the back yard under the patio cover. If I had a front porch, that would awesome. It’s so nice to sit in the back, where it’s relaxing and no rushing and so quiet, until the birds come with their welcoming songs. It’s really peaceful but it’s rare that I get to do this, but so wonderful when I do. I am presently working on a patriotic themed cross stitch for my son who is a veteran and served in Afghanistan. It’s for Fourth of July. Also, hoping to finish a patriotic table runner for him too. Home of the free, because of the brave. Thank you for all you do Pat.
My favorite place to stitch was at my grandma’s house. She taught me how to embroider and then I learned how to cross-stitch. She always had numerous projects going. I loved to sit next to her as a young girl and stitch. She is the reason why I am quilting today!
I used to cross stitch everywhere but now my eyes are bad so I need really good light. My car at lunchtime is great on sunny days.
I have stitched in an airport during delays.
Summer camp is more to me than just a week to be away from home. Our camp sits on a pristine pond, and recently we completed some serious maintenance on the property, resulting in the perfect spot to finish bindings while listening to loons and the slapping of waves against the rocky shoreline. Sew perfect!
I love this gift, I’ve been wanting to get back into cross stitching. My husband and I moved back to the family farm when his mother passed away. There is a small 3 bedroom house as well as the main house, so my husband let me turn the smaller house into my studio. When we go to RV 55+ Parks, I love quilting with other women that are also in the park. My favorite part is helping when someone is having a problem and show them how I do whatever. Thanks for all you do.
When I traveled for work, I would stitch on the plane. Would use nail clippers to cut strings.
Old eyes means I need good light and a magnifier so I canβt stitch just anywhere. But it is fun reading the comments here!!!
I love to stitch during meetings and on my front porch.
I haven’t done this in a long time, but my job used to require pretty frequent transatlantic flights between Dulles and London-Heathrow. I could really get in the zone and got lots of stitching done in those days! I got out of stitching for a while, now I’m retired and getting back into it but that is mostly from my easy chair. Have to get more adventurous I guess!
In the summer time I like to stitch outdoors and listen to the birds sing and squirrels chirp!
I would like to stitch on the porch up north in the woods. A warm summer day. With hummingbirds buzzing around the hummingbird feeder.
Many years ago, I worked in a convenience/gas store, I would cross stitch sitting at the counter because it wasn’t very busy and I get bored really quick. Nowadays, I sit in my recliner in the living room. I can’t take sewing to where I work now, or I totally would do that!
I like to stitch while watching a Netflix movie with my husband. I do need good light.
I try to cross stitch anywhere out of the flow of traffic in my home. It can be in the living room, spare bedroom, or at the end of the sofa. I have thought many times about taking it in to the bathroom, but haven’t had to resort to that yet! Good Luck to all entries!
I like to stitch outdoors in the morning when the birds are singing.
My favorite place to stitch is in my florida room on the back of the house. It has 2 sky lights and windows that let’s in lots of natural light.
I stitch in my. recliner while listening to the tv.
In the kitchen while cooking dinner. I have a step stool I can sit and do a few stitches while watching the stove. Any chance to keep my hands busy.
Mostly I stitch in a corner in my living room equipped with ott light and be with my husband at same time. If not there, I may take to camp to enjoy my craft in a very peace filled quiet place… by the river if the bugs aren’t out in full force.
I like to set outside to stitch so I can listen to birds sing and chatter. Very peaceful.
I love to stitch sitting on my swing under the big shade tree with a cup of coffee! Not out of the ordinary but very relaxing!
I often stitch during Summer months in a comfy chair on the patio with a view of the garden, in the car while we are traveling, and also when we attend college basketball games! GO ZAGS!! I am always surprised at how much can get done. However, my favorite place to stitch is on the deck looking out at the ocean when we travel to Lincoln City, Oregon.
I prefer to stitch with my sewing pals. I get inspired and eager to finish so I can move on to something else, the next project. Those gals are supportive and such a valuable asset for me.
I stitch on my back deck when the weather is nice. Lovely hearing the birdsong as I stitch.
Once you have cleaned your rotary blade, are you to oil it? Thanks
