I’m busy making my main studio space more usable… check out my progress AND enter my giveaway!
I give you a BEFORE tour
My main studio space is where I work all the time. It has my projects in progress, machines, computer, and most of my fabric.

About 3pm I started pulling all the projects out of my studio space to resort them and put them into better size container and more effective & productive spots for my use. I did a video for you
For the post part I’m not doing fabric, just projects.
That includes all the different products I review or test. PLUS I had some UFOs in my main space that were not being worked on and taking up valuable work space. They needed to be moved.
Taking it out is EASY.
Deciding how to regroup and where in my studio should it now be, is more difficult. I started when I got up.

For our family business we work at home, so our whole small home has become our office.
We have no basement and no usable attic. So my business takes up 4 rooms in our home.
- My studio is my main work room and what you see all the time. It is the family room of our home, it’s what in the videos with my beautiful Koala Furniture and my Baby lock machines
- The shipping department has one room as his office.
- We have 1 other rooms for quilts, batting, notions, projects not being working on, other fabric, books, etc.
- AND the ‘over flow’ room right now is our dining room as it can’t all fit in the one room upstairs. The photo above is one wall in my dining room. On the wall is my village quilt (BUY the pattern here), and the blocks are from my Triangle book (HERE)
In my studio I keep JUST what I’m working on and my main fabric. On that video I talk about it being messy. It is ‘messy’ in that projects were not in optimum work places, split across areas, and things got put in spots that took up valuable space in my small room
Now for a few photos of my ‘after’

My biggest problem is room. I did have a crafting room for about 4 months when our oldest moved out. Then my Mom, who has dementia, moved in with us. I’d rather her live with us than somewhere else, but our bedroom has become a disaster area.
My biggest problem is organizing my fabric, and room. My room is small I would love a bigger room, but that isn’t possible. My furniture doesn’t match and I’m not sure where I want to set it up.
My biggest problem is me, not giving up sewing time to figure out a workable plan.
How to store upcycled wool
My biggest problem is lack of storage space. I have to keep my fabrics in three different places, so consequently U can never find what I need!
My biggest problem is how to fold and organize my fabric and scraps. Also, should I cut the scraps to a certain size?
My biggest problem is trying to keep my cutting table clear of clutter.
My biggest problem is I need more room to store everything, I am using a corner of my living room and store things in bags
My biggest problem is my small room. No place for a cutting table and fabric everywhere. There is a bed for guest but no place to sleep 😁
my biggest problrm is ideas growing whilr working mon a project then having to try it.
My biggest problem is lack of energy to tackle the projec. Caring for three littles all day is a lot at this stage.
My biggest problem to really organize my stash in a way that I find again what I have. I think I have too many fabrics;-)
My biggest problem is room to put everything neatly & organised. I’m using a converted single car garage which is only 9’8” wide x 14’ long. In this room I have my Happy Jack quilting frame, sewing table, cube storage for fabrics & a double width file cabinet which holds my patterns & stencils.
I have fabrics in roller boxes, spare threads in roller box, batting in large box & visofix & other stabilisers in another box all stored in hubby’s music room. Mid October I am going interstate to collect the rest of my supplies that have been stored at my brothers house I.e. antique sewing machines (6), Acuquilt cutters (2), cutting & sewing tables, fabric galore along with household goods.
I think I’m going to need a bigger house…..lol
P.S. I’m in Australia 🇦🇺
My biggest hassles are not enuf time to quilt and a failure to complete projects. I am currently having a fall clean out and am, finally,
hanging up UFOs with a goal to finish them!! We shall see. Too many quilts to be made and not enuf time to do them all… however one step st a time!!!
Il mio problema principale è: troppi interessi e poco spazio. Spero solo di trasferirmi in una casa più grande!
My biggest problem is not having enough space. I only have a small table and an armoire for my fabric.
My biggest problem is not having a designated sewing space, especially to organize my fabrics. Currently I have small, shoebox size, clear containers on the top shelf of our master bedroom closet (not very convenient). When piecing a quilt top together, I usually set my machine up on the dining room table for several days. Really want to get a dedicated work surface for my machine, so it doesn’t have to be put away each day.
Like many mine is keeping my scraps organized and sorted well!
My biggest problem is the mess I make while doing a project. I focus on what I’m doing and let other things in the room go. I end up with patterns, tools, thread, and scraps everywhere!
My biggest problem is not organizing. It’s the lack of storage space in my trailer. I bought two Baker’s rack to store bins of fabrics. I place fabric for the upcoming classes I have in large plastic bags. What does not get finished at the class session is kept in that bag along with the instructions, date of class and what club I took the class and instructor’s name.
Threads. I don’t how to store them. By color? By weight? Cotton or not? My biggest trouble 😉
My biggest problem is too small of a space and a lot of quilting supplies in it! I have a great machine and tables,as well as cabinets-now needing to make to space to organize life!! I think your space was very organized before you even started to re organize 🙂
My biggest organizational challenge is safely storing WIPs in a manner where I can easily “see” my outstanding projects.
My biggest problem is space! I just have a small table for sewing and an ironing board. I recently started quilting and I suspect that I’m going to need to spread out. A design wall sounds a great idea.
I just spent a hour looking for a notion I know I have, used a ‘make-do’ solution, finished the project and Then the piece I was looking for showed up! I have trouble remembering where I last saw something, so there must be a flaw in my organization system.
My biggest problem is remembering where I put items. But I like it when I find new projects at my next organizational cleaning.
My biggest organizational problem is space. I’ve recently had to combine my sewing room and sitting room area together and I’ve been working at doing this. But I’m running out of drawers to put everything in according to type of fabric, precuts, etc. also, how to sort scraps too large to throw away. Do I do color, size, etc. For now, it’s out of sight out mind organized. LOL
I keep changing my work space to find more space to store as I’ve got so much fabric.
.
My problem is having enough room to sew and not mess up the dining table as I live in a small flat
My biggest problem with organizing is the fabrics of all shapes and sizes. I have told myself many times that I need to stop buying fabrics and start sewing! I have stopped the subscriptions and only buy patterns that I will love and use the fabric stash. I work full time, have a second job, and still squeeze in some sewing time.
Currently working on the background blocks for Merry and Bright. I need to organize my scraps.
I can’t throw things away.
My biggest problem is locating my sewing notions. I need to “see” them and spend a lot of time looking for them in drawers and cupboards.
my problem is that I don’t put things away when done, then I end up with a big pile to go through.
Getting rid of stuff! I have a 3 hobby room. I quilt, cross stitch and acrylic paint wood. All my books etc are all in the same room. Plus I used my space to store files for teaching. I am in the process in trying to contain each hobby in a certain area. But it is hard.
My biggest organization problem is taking time to put like things together. I don’t want to waste the time organizing when I could instead be sewing! I have good intentions…never enough time.
I’ve run out of space. Got to resist bring anymore fabric etc. into the sewing room.
I would love a new iron for my sewing room, and I would love receiving the quilting bag of goodies. Its so much fun to see all the new product. And thanks for the great tutorials.
Having to store my fabric in two different areas in the house makes it hard to find coordinates when starting a project. Often times I just pull a whole stack of possible fabrics and then leave them on the floor or my sewing room in piles. Then it really gets unorganized and cluttered.
My biggest problem is keeping things organized once I put things back where they belong. It is too easy to take things out to use and not put them back in their place so then I am disorganized again.
I need to reorganize my 12×12 room. Wasn’t sure how to organize fabric either, and projects in bags. One step at a time right?
I don’t have enough room for everything I want to have in my studio. I live in a duplex villa and the family room down stairs is where everything is. I have too many books and magazines I have collected over the years and need to thin out but can’t bring myself to do so. The family room is also part tv area with sofas. I also have a Coca Cola kitchen down there. And of course there never is enough time to finish the projects I have started.
My biggest problem is how to organize my scraps. Not sure if I should cut them up into pieces or leave them as they are. Right now they are just sorted by color and a little by type. I don’t mix my reproductions with my modern fabric.
My organizational problem would be space. I have no space for fabric and projects. I have fabric in totes in the closet, in drawers and under my bed. I don’t know what I have and sometimes order fabric twice. Not good!
I feel so much better after reading all these comments! I’m not the only one with these challenges. Too many projects and sooo many great ideas not completed. Do we have an illness? Lol. Keep on creating everyone
I have fabric in the basement, and in my sewing room. I tend to keep a lot in my sewing room, but not as much as I have in the basement. I try to keep too much in my sewing room to remind me not to buy more until sew up a bunch of what I have. That doesn’t always work. Then there are the pieces I take out of the basement to use in a project”. I use some of it then want the rest put back in the basement. However it doesn’t always get put away. So now I have messes in two areas. Being organized sounds nice, but isn’t easy for everyone.
My biggest organizational issue is space. I have more stuff than space and I have a hard time giving up anything crafty to make room.
My goal was to always package up new fabric with the intended pattern like a kit. I started refolding all my fabric using the ruler method so each cubby has 2 fabric stacks. However, I get too busy and end up sticking the fabric randomly in cubbies still in the shipping package. It may take the rest of my life to get all the packages sorted, refolded, and stacked with a pattern.
I keep projects together relatively well. It’s all of the other fabric, and other paraphernalia together in the best way to be useful.
Too many books to remember all that I want to make.
