I’m busy making my main studio space more usable… check out my progress AND enter my giveaway!
I give you a BEFORE tour
My main studio space is where I work all the time. It has my projects in progress, machines, computer, and most of my fabric.

About 3pm I started pulling all the projects out of my studio space to resort them and put them into better size container and more effective & productive spots for my use. I did a video for you
For the post part I’m not doing fabric, just projects.
That includes all the different products I review or test. PLUS I had some UFOs in my main space that were not being worked on and taking up valuable work space. They needed to be moved.
Taking it out is EASY.
Deciding how to regroup and where in my studio should it now be, is more difficult. I started when I got up.

For our family business we work at home, so our whole small home has become our office.
We have no basement and no usable attic. So my business takes up 4 rooms in our home.
- My studio is my main work room and what you see all the time. It is the family room of our home, it’s what in the videos with my beautiful Koala Furniture and my Baby lock machines
- The shipping department has one room as his office.
- We have 1 other rooms for quilts, batting, notions, projects not being working on, other fabric, books, etc.
- AND the ‘over flow’ room right now is our dining room as it can’t all fit in the one room upstairs. The photo above is one wall in my dining room. On the wall is my village quilt (BUY the pattern here), and the blocks are from my Triangle book (HERE)
In my studio I keep JUST what I’m working on and my main fabric. On that video I talk about it being messy. It is ‘messy’ in that projects were not in optimum work places, split across areas, and things got put in spots that took up valuable space in my small room
Now for a few photos of my ‘after’

My biggest problem is lack of space. I really need a room all to myself for all my crafting stuff. Instead there’s a little bit here and a little bit there all over the house.
My biggest problem in my quilting space is Space! I have a very small sewing room and it fills up fast. It seems I sometimes spend more time organizing than quilting. I keep trying for that perfect organized room. I cannot work in a messy space.
My main problem is having to share my sewing space with computer, bookcase, husband’s spare desk, piano, baby change table and a recliner chair. I need a fairy godmother to wave a magic wand over it all!
My biggest problem is my apartment is not large enough for all the sewing and quilting fabrics, books, notions, and machines I have. Therefore, my place does not look as organized as I wish it did. Too much is visible!
My haby needs organising. I have lots of those ” i know i have some” and then the inevitable thought “where is it” but who has time to spend sorting when we could be sewing!!
I have too many projects going on at the same time and not enough space or containers to keep each project organized.
My biggest organizational problem is patterns, books, kits. Keep or donate? Will I use that pattern again… what about the leftover fabric from the kits…do I really need that book? So they alll get shoved into a cubby under the cutting table 🤦🏻♀️
I have a nice, large bonus room for my quilting, so that’s a plus! My issue is that I start too many projects and do not get any of them finished! They are organized pretty well, but when some get pushed aside for another and more wonderful project, many times, I can lose or misplace “parts”… oh, my!
My biggest problem is the tools – rulers, cutters, irons, etc I am still setting up my studio. Would you like to come help me? LOL!
My biggest organisational problem is patterns. I have too many, but I am unwilling to buy a bigger cabinet, because I know that what I really need to do, is weed out the ones I won’t ever use. But, like my fabric, I am deeply in love with each and every one, and so parting with any is out of the question. Its not a terrible problem to have I know.
My fabric needs major resorting and reorganizing. I have put projects together in large ziploc bags but, the fabric that isn’t designated for a project needs some kind of logical sorting. I have a sewing room now so, I am hoping To organize it correctly. I
My problem is being able to break down what I believe to be an enormous task ( re-organizing my space)in to smaller doable tasks; therefore I never seem to begin at all!
My biggest organization problem is just that I do not have enough space!!!
Keeping my fabric sorted. I get it sorted, then add more and before long I don’t have anymore room in the blue allotted space, or the red, or the green.
To much stuff!!! Need to let go of the fabric addiction and work on projects only.
Deciding what fabrics to put together from all of my stash! Not sure how to organize it better. Right now everything is sorted by color.
I just moved into a new house with an extra room that has shelves on three walls so I got pretty well organized when I went through things to move it into the new “sewing room.” My biggest problem now would be all the scraps left over from previous projects. They aren’t organized but stuffed in a plastic container box. I really need to make a scrappy quilt and use them up.
My biggest organizational problem is space. My sewing machine is in the living room. I cut at the dining room table. I store my supplies in the small guest bedroom. I set up the iron wherever there is room, usually in a corner of that bedroom. No matter where I work, the scissors, seam reaper, directions are in a different place. At least I get lots of steps in.
My biggest problem is I have too much fabric in my quilt studio!
My biggest problem is too many UFOs that clutter up my sewing space.i am working on them a bit each month and trying no to start new projects before I finish the old ones.
Oh how I wish I had a space solely dedicated to just sewing!
My biggest problem….working on too many things at the one time…and when I do tidy up I keep finding things I’d forgotten about, so I leave them out to perhaps start yet another project, but then put them away again, so I can finish what I’ve already begun!
Not enough storage containers which makes for too much clutter! And I don’t clean as I go! I can have a few projects going on at a time and things tend to get mixed in with other stuff and it becomes a COMPLETE MESS!!! I try to keep things in their own bucket but sometimes that just doesn’t work!! My father always said start your job with a clean area, including sweeping the floor. That way if you drop something or misplace something you can easily scan the room to find it because everything that belongs will be in its place! I need to go back to doing that!!!
My biggest problem is where to keep big scrap pieces. I don’t want to deal with them while I’m working on a quilt and when the quilt is finished I want to start another one right away. The scraps sit in a pile.
I have too many UFO and want to finish them. I am going to really try to finish all my WIP before starting new ones. All my fabric is all sorted and ruler folded. I just need to finish things. I must have over 50 things to finish not including at least that many tops that need quilting and binding up on.
I need a better way to organize my fabric so I can see what I have!
S.P.A.C.E. My 9X12 sewing room is also my bedroom.
Lack of space is my biggest organizational problem. My room is very small and I try to keep it tidy but pretty soon it looks like the room exploded🤔🤔
My biggest problem is putting tools back where they belong. I spend a lot of time hunting for them (or buying new ones!) I am working on me!
My biggest difficulty is that I sew in my basement, along with everything else that is stored there. I have very limited space and everything has to be in plastic containers, or off the ground…just in case! Even though it’s small and not very pretty, I love that I have a space I can call my own,
My biggest problem is storing my fabric so it is visible and easy to get at. Right now I have it in long tubs that fit under my bed. In order to choose what I want to use I have to pull out each tub to see what fabric is there.
My biggest organization problem is having the attention span of a bumblebee buzzing to every pretty flower I see. I have too many projects going on and it creates a disorganised mess and I really don’t work well in chaos. I’m trying really hard to finish many things up before starting anything new, but — ya know — there are just sooooo many pretty flowers out there 😂 🌸
Biggest organizational problem is a lack of containers that stack nicely. My boxes are different sizes.
My biggest problem with organization is the closet in my sewing room. Once stuff goes in there it kinda out of sight, out of mind. I don’t like everything out in my sewing room…it’s overwhelming to me, but I forget what’s in the closet and its full…can’t close the door. Augh
My biggest organizational problem is going through a
Pile of fabrics and stuff that my husband moved over
A year ago in order to make room for a twin bed and a dresser
For our grown daughter who had to move back home.
It just got piled against one wall. It’s was gut-wrenching
To me! It stalled my creativity and I didn’t go down there to see.
Finally, I just got several crates and a trash bag. I
Started going through stacks, bags, boxes separating
fabrics (I have a lot of batiks and I keep them seperate
from the other fabrics). I sorted smaller pieces to be
trimmed into charm squares, layer cakes and strips for
a future scrappy Pineapple Block project. I sorted
White-on-white fabrics into a bag. I’ve gotten through
2/3 of the walled section, slowly making progress.
My biggest problem is the tools I have se day to day and a way to keep the, handy and organized. Various pressers feet, scissors, thread, seam ripper, needles, etc. they end up to the right of my machine and I get frustrated getting the right tool for the job at hand.
I will need a new iron soon,,,also I reAlly need a design wall….
I’m with you in organizing projects to keep all the components together. I live in fear of accidentally using fabric in another project and not having it for the originally intended one. I have a horrible time keeping all the clutter from my cutting table too. Horizontal spaces in my room are ALWAYS full of stuff!
My BIGGEST problem is the “I want to make list grows faster than I can make them!”, secondly, I buy fabric for all of these projects! My sewing space is limited and I am overflowing with projects! I really need to put a rein on my projects! I am progressing a little at a time but not fast enough for my own liking. In a small space I am flowing from room to room!!
My biggest problem is not having the time to get everything organized. I know where everything is and if I need something I can find it right away. I have 2 rooms dedicated for sewing (nice part of living alone). The other problem I have is where to begin. I really just need to set a time aside(haha) and just do it. Even if I do a little at a time, then I could probably have a nice tidy room. My fabrics are all in the closet organized. It is just everything else that needs to be organized. I do not have a lot of shelves, which might be a good investment and help the situation out.
Thank you for everything.
My big problem is organizing all the patterns I print off the internet, I have some in three ring binders but a lot are just laying on top of each other. I need a bookcase to hold all my quilt books and my binders, I need to reorganize the binders in to what type of projects are in them.
I also have lots a fabric stuffed here and there then I forget which pattern I ordered the fabric for.
I have more than one problem! Too much beautiful fabric, I hate to cut it sometimes depending on the pattern! Then I can’t decide how to organize it so that I can find something that I know I have “somewhere” ! Some is by color, some are by patterns and some are by seasons, but a lot of them are just folded and on a shelf.
Sometimes I find a piece of fabric in color and there is another one in pattern,, and of course they both are the same.. hmmm must have really liked it!
Kids sure get upset with me when they come to visit// oh well…
My organization skills are lacking! I play hide a seek often with most important items. My sewing room is pretty neat but it’s new and my loft is a huge mess at this time. I’m also trying to process my stash. Good luck in the the gift of time to organization.
That’s my least favorite thing to do!
My biggest problem is piles of fabric everywhere.
My biggest problem is too much stuff! I’ve been quilting for 40 years so I had so much “vintage” stuff…when we moved 18 months ago, I did a major purge. However, I have less space in our new home and I haven’t quite got a handle on it yet. A work in progress for sure! Thanks for the giveaway and love your blog!
I tidy up and get all organized and then can’t find that one thing I need…where did I put it….
I look and look…and then ..oh yeah..that’s where I put it….I feel like I waste a lot of time
Searching…
Mine is trying to organize my leftover scraps of fabric. I never know the best way to cut it up and sort it for future projects.
My biggest problem is too much fabric and too many things in progress. I have several major quilts that are going to be scrappy and, therefore, require a bin or two of the appropriate fabrics: Splendid Sampler 2, Millefiore, and the 4 x 5 anthology among others. Good fun, though!
Some people may be envious that I have a 14 X 22 sewing room in my basement, but that just means more room for tooooo much stuff. After a recent water leakage problem (thankfully, not flooding), everything has been pulled away from the walls. Now it’s definitely time for major re-organization! I need new shelving and new containers–and a “get-real” attitude.
My books and fabrics are all sorted, but I don’t know where to put the new projects once I’ve started to work on them. I put them in piles on the desk and soon it all just looks like clutter.
