Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…
- Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
- Take a walk, I want to walk more
- Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.
The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

Now for the fun!!!
What will you do today to kick off 2017?
Answer in the comments below by Jan 4 at 6pm EST and you could win this prize
Winner is Kathy B who said “My 2017 goals are to shine my sink which I am hopeful will spread thru out the house. I’m going to tame my sewing areas so I can get more done. I’m going to quilt more of my quilt tops. I’m going to cut projects for each machine I have. These will include nursing home quilts, baby quilts, pet quilts and some for family. I’m going to cut a simple quilt to send to my sewing granddaughter to put together. I am thinking of rejoining the church lady quilting bunch every other Thursday. I am going to get back into the habit of walking the pets.”

I’m making a list today of the quilts I plan on making for my family. Today I’m hoping to finish a wall hanging for my sewing room!
Beginning to plan the wedding quilt my sister and I are making for our nephew who is getting married in August. She wants it to be and brash and has chosen Kaffe Fassett fabric! Now to work out the design.
I am planning to make some night and day blocks to match my churn dash blocks today.
I kicked off the New Year by giving my sewing machine a good clean and oil and a new needle and then I purred through some block sewing 🙂
I have been organizing my sewing room this week. I am so blessed to have this space. Donating some of my excess to the sewing class at the high school where I work. I even have a working sewing machine I hope to give to a student who does not have one at home. My goal this year is to be happy and to learn something new everyday.
Quilt, bike, walk, play with my new camera phone, and hang out with my guy.
Finish wall hanging to flimsy stage, watch football and see where I am on UFO for January.
Home from church and lunch out. Will be sewing! Trying to finish putting my Farners Wife blocks together. Did Solstice blocks 1 and 2 last night. Looking forward to Block #3!
I hope I can get motivated enough to get my sewing room organized. I have a bunch of things I have bought on quilt trips the past couple of months that I want to put together to make “kits” so I can just pick something and everything I need in one place. I probably should get started since the day is already about half over.
I plan to sew as much as possible, to eat healthy foods and to get some good exercise!
Finish the basket which is almost done
I am sewing, sewing, sewing 🙂
Bind a baby quilt
Happy New Year! I will be quilting up a storm, long walks with my dog, going to the gym 3 days a week and when spring arrives, gardening. I have perennial gardens and a large vegetable garden!
I am going to finish a wall quilt for a friend, photograph and post my Winter Solstice blocks, and hand sew two bindings down!
Havnt sewn in awhile, so I plan on working on the Winter Solstice blocks and the 1/4 inch seam! I may even attempt a zipper and buttonhole or two.
Today I am going to work on the Splendid Sampler blocks that I didn’t have time for ~ like the embroidery blocks for sure, re-do a couple I didn’t like how they came out, and I might even do some of those dreaded paper pieced blocks. I know a lot of people like them, but it just seems to be extra .. strange to me, but I have printed all the templates so lets see if we get there..
But first before I do anything at all I am going to make the best cup of Kaffe in my French Press and then we’ll talk.
Happy New Year Quilters !
I made plans for the next year. Things to iron out….things to start…. things to investigate…. looking forward to a great 2017,
Getting all my projects done. No more starting and not finush
I am going to kick off 2017 by cooking a turkey dinner for some family members and then work on the “Be my neighbor” blocks
I am working on finishing a tablerunner I was suppose to do fora very special person 2 years ago. Hoping to finish it today. When I work 5 days a week it just seems like I don’t get as much time to sew as I would like. I really enjoy all the quilts on the website, it gives the hope to do more quilts. Thank you Pat for this website .
I kicked of 2017 by writing a blog post, cleaned my sewing room and then sat down to see block 2 of the solstice challenge, a very satisfying day that I hope to continue into the year, writing and sewing.
Finishing a quilt top for my church quilt group that will end up at a local boys’ home and then just keep quilting!!!
Square blocks for baby quilt. Selecting fabrics for the Solstice Challenge.Binding my “Amish with a Twist” quilt.
I need to get Christmas decorations down and get my sewing room organized.
This morning I put windshield wipers on my Jeep. I washed & cleaned my car & got my Jeep YJ ready to go do some trail riding with my husband and his Jeep YJ Then when I get back home later today I am going to finish a quilt for my daughter & work on sorting fabric scraps to do more SEWING 🙂 HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!!
I am going to do a bit of straightening in the workroom – clear out the gift wrapping mess. Then I will help hubby cook New Year’s dinner; he is roasting a duck. Later there will be time for reflecting on the New Year, and writing out some sewing goals for 2017. Happy New Year!
I’m going to sew along with winter solstice
I plan on carving out some time for me to sew and focus on having some crafting fun.
I finished a small project Friday, so today….clean up the mess from that and start my winter solstice blocks!
Grandkids that were with other parent on Christmas Day are back and we are celebrating and exchanging gifts today, cooking pork-black eyed peas-collards for later, plus on baby watch with a daughter who is due anytime with a Miss Makenzie. Organized sewing room yesterday so Monday starting fresh….
I am going to work on a pinwheel quilt for my cousin, I have not made anything for her so it’s her turn
Keep working on the Bonnie Hunter mystery and keep trying to gut guest bedroom to make way for new sewing room and machine!!!
I plan to start my “Half-hour at the Sewing Machine at Least Three Times a Week Plan” that my friend and I devised for 2017 (she made us a chart so we can track). I’ll start by sewing on a binding and see how it goes. We know sometimes a half-hour can turn into so much more, if we can only ignore the household duties for a little while. Also, while I always try to be kind, I’m going to make it a point to do something kind every single day, no matter how small the act of kindness. Today, it will be a letter to a cousin. Wishing everyone tons of quilting fun in the New Year!
Finish my first two Winter Solstice blocks and then regroup in my sewing room!
I will sew one block on my birthday quilt and quilt one row on my longarm machine. I plan to spend more time relaxing in 2017 vs the rushing around and missing moments this year!
Today I will be taking down the Christmas decorations and having a few family members over for dinner. I will try to get in some sewing but not sure I will accomplished the sewing part of it. Happy New Year-thanks for all your help.
I will be quilting and organizing. Doing a lot of walking and running!!! If the knee holds up. And as I retired in October then broke my wrist, I will now be figuring out what I’m doing with the rest of my life.
I plan on doing more of what I love (quilting) and less of being pulled all over the place.
Driving in a car up the east coast on our 2 day journey home after a week spent with family. In between entertaining kids, I have been dreaming about the quilting projects waiting for me at home!
I spent most of December 30 & 31 cleaning and rearranging my “craft” room. I found 5 completed quilt tops and I have 10 rows for a french braid quilt all laying in a tub. This year I hope to have all of those completed and work on my Splendid Sampler blocks.
Take the dog for a walk, take down Christmas decoration and sew!
I have my fabrics ready for your Solstice blocks of the week and your Favorite Things BOM. The weekly will be from my red, white, and blue stash and the BOM will be in blues and yellows. Both are colors I’ve wanted to make quilts into.
I need to get my motivation back, and I think this website may just be the ticket. I’ve been traveling and as soon as I get home, I’ll make my UFO list, start my weekly blocks and make time everyday for sewing.
Sew! Sew! Sew!!! Snowing !! What else to do but SEW!!!
I’m going to finish a dress I started yesterday, then set my sewing room up for some serious free motion quilting.
I planning on more me time and this will equal, more sewing (for me) and reading.
All ready for the New Years Mystery Quilt today! Been on my bucket list for several years…….today is the day…….don’t talk about it, dream about it…just do it!
I am going to use an embroidery quilt pattern on a block I made, using the 2nd day pattern of the Solstice Challenge. Also filling up on Pork and sauerkraut!!
I got up at 4:00 to make sure my daughter made it up for work. I have the coughing crud so I plan to medicate and lay around as much as possible. I did Ono gram 2 shirts. I am baby sitting my 4 year old granddaughter too, so I will only get minimal laying down. I have a new quilt to start, but not today.
