Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…
- Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
- Take a walk, I want to walk more
- Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.
The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

Now for the fun!!!
What will you do today to kick off 2017?
Answer in the comments below by Jan 4 at 6pm EST and you could win this prize
Winner is Kathy B who said “My 2017 goals are to shine my sink which I am hopeful will spread thru out the house. I’m going to tame my sewing areas so I can get more done. I’m going to quilt more of my quilt tops. I’m going to cut projects for each machine I have. These will include nursing home quilts, baby quilts, pet quilts and some for family. I’m going to cut a simple quilt to send to my sewing granddaughter to put together. I am thinking of rejoining the church lady quilting bunch every other Thursday. I will start my day being grateful for the day. Then I will drink my morning lemon water, which I had been forgetting towards the end of 2016. Today I plan to continue setting up my quilting studio in my garage so I can continue on with my quilting projects in a new space, but first I am checking my email and taking care of business.

It’s my grandson’s 8th birthday, so a quick trip out to give him his present and Superhero quilt kicked off my 2017. I have spent the rest of the day finishing the binding on a quilt to send to a friend in Cornwall and have done the first 26 pieced half hexies for the Jaybirds Science Fair quilt for my son.
I plan to work on my Baltimore album quilt…only one block left to appliqué! Winter storm advisory so it will be a good day to stay home and do some creating!

I am working on my UFO Challenge. Today I finish month 4 Of Evening Sky by Cheryl Malkowski. I plan to finish all the pieces this month and put the quilt together in February. I have heard that spending January 1 doing something you love insures that you will spend the entire year doing something you love. Sew, sew, sew!
I am knitting and turning the computer OFF so I have time to work in my sewing room—I want to do some decluttering and actual SEWING. I am going to step out of my comfort zone and try your Solstice sew-along.

It’s already past 5pm on New Year Day and I’ve spent some time sewing the letter blocks for my ‘2017 Word’, listened to the footie while reading my favorite blogs and enjoyed a wonderful ‘prepared for me by himself’ roast beef dinner. Definitely the way Sunday’s should be enjoyed 🙂

I am organizing my computer files as I work from home and the new year means archiving. I will put away the holiday decorations. I will sew something today. Most of all I will relax and enjoy while doesn’t them all. I need to find the beauty or ‘goodness’ in all of the activities I do rather than dreading the ones I am not excited about.
I’m cutting the binding for my quilt I just quilted yesterday, I want to have it read to be displayed for Raffle ticket sales by the 12th of January.

Catch up on quilt clubs boms and do some reading.
2016 was a year if adjustment for me. I retired in February after working as a nurse for 43 years. During all those years, I bought fabric and needle crafts for “retirement days”. My plan for 2017 is to get all of my fabric organized and put to good use. I also inherited many sewing items from my grandmother years ago and need to go through all of them. I have a grandmother’s flower garden quilt to finish that I can remember my mother working on when she took me to the local wading pool. So I guess my whole plan for 2017 is to get organized and to get “get things done”! Oh, and to enjoy retirement!!!!!
I have a couple different projects that I will be piecing today. One a tumbling block quilt for my grandson, and the other a quilt with lots of flying geese (new to me) for a friend.
