Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…
- Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
- Take a walk, I want to walk more
- Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.
The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

Now for the fun!!!
What will you do today to kick off 2017?
Answer in the comments below by Jan 4 at 6pm EST and you could win this prize
Winner is Kathy B who said “My 2017 goals are to shine my sink which I am hopeful will spread thru out the house. I’m going to tame my sewing areas so I can get more done. I’m going to quilt more of my quilt tops. I’m going to cut projects for each machine I have. These will include nursing home quilts, baby quilts, pet quilts and some for family. I’m going to cut a simple quilt to send to my sewing granddaughter to put together. I am thinking of rejoining the church lady quilting bunch every other Thursday. I am going to get back into the habit of walking the pets.”

Happy New Year everyone. I am hoping to spend some time in my sewing studio. I purchased a small Christmas Quilt kit, but never had a chance to put it together, so I am hoping to get a few blocks done. I also hope to finish knitting a headband that I promised someone a few weeks ago. Time goes too fast when you want to be creative.
I am a quilting newbie, until now I have been making small projects but last night I cut out the two blocks for the Solstice Challenge and today I will sew them. This will be my first pieced block and my first ever quilt so I am excited to be part of this. Thank You Pat for your generous gift of wisdom and inspiration.
Happy New Year!!! I’ll be organizing fabric and patterns to start new projects today! Perhaps starting one of my new quilts while hubby enjoys football on his last day off! Took advantage of some precut sales past 2 weeks and the last arrived yesterday!!! So excited to begin!!! Thanks for getting me so revved up to begin my Christmas presents!!! Excited for new solstice pattern on Wednesday! Thanks for getting me out of my comfort zone with that and helping me learn new things!!!!
Today will be filled with organization [in my sitting room and sewing studio], tidying [housework], an audio book, and, yes, some sewing, too. These activities will fit in with my word for the year, which is ‘simplify’. I tend to make things much more complicated than they have to be, so I’ll ask myself whether a choice, task, or activity will complicate or simplify my life. I want to choose the serenity of simplicity.
I’m spending some time with family, getting out to cross country ski, and then sitting down and writing up some goals for 2017. Maybe some sewing room organization, but probably no sewing today. But, I’ve got 364 more days to do that this year 🙂 Happy New Year for you!
I have gotten my sewing/craft room straighten back up after the Christmas projects. I will continue on new quilting projects, finish old quilting projects and help my 7 year old grandaughter with her sewing skills. She got a sewing machine from Santa. I hope to practice template quilting skills, too.
Starting the day off with breakfast with the grandkids, then off to see for an hour or two and finishing by doing a shift at work!
I am working on a quilt named LLiberty. My goals are to be happy, stronger, wiser, healthier, wiser, quilt more and above all make it work.
I plan on listing my UFO’s and finding fabric for you Soltice blocks.
I’m sewing today – thanks for the giveaway!!
Sew, sew, sew!!! Read, walk, crochet. Spend more time with family and friends. Make new friends.
Taking care of my husband who is down with a cold…..it’s the least I can do since I gave it to him. In between chicken soup and laundry, I’ll be quilting!
I’m hoping to start making a dent in my growing collections of UFO’s . This year I aim to make more time to work on my own quilting projects and not take on as many customer quilts, and find more time for my dog for the exercise we both need!
I’m hoping to start quilting my UFO project. Bad cold has me couch bound.
Enjoying the last of the days off with my husband before he heads back to work up north for the next thirty days for work..But tomorrow, sew., sew, sew😁
I have already taken the Christmas tree down this AM and put it away until next year. Now I am going to sew and read and just be lazy and enjoy myself the rest of the day. Maybe watch a little football with hubby. Happy New Year.
I started off the day with breakfast with my beautiful niece who makes me happy. After that some holiday clean up and hopefully I can get in the sewing room.
I plan to continue cutting a quilt for my daughter. Hope to get it done by summer and it will be her “summer surprise”. A couple years ago I did her a Christmas in July and sent a Christmas quilt, table topper and kitchen towels. This quilt is a glamping one with small trailers on it. Cute fabric. Thanks. Gracie
I was actually babysitting a dog and was able to do some EPP. I also cleaned the pool, as it’s been very hot here in Australia and good weather for swimming.
Planning on sewing-lots of sewing, then some reading and maybe washing the dogs, but that sounds like too much work—-RELAXING.
Today is football and sewing. My 2 favorite things!! Walk more, eat better. Pray more. Happy 2017!!
I plan on making dinner (pork and sauerkraut) for my 98 year old mother-in-law and aunt, sewing some placements, and enjoy life.
I am working (I work in a cardiac ICU). But I am hoping to bind 6 (!) baby quilts on my next day off!
I plan on taking down my Christmas decorations and then am going to do some organizing in my sewing room.
Started the year by going to church with my family. Will probably do a little cleaning as the extra visitors head back to their homes. And at some point wander down to my sewing room to play with fabric.
I am finally back to working on my splendid sampler blocks after making two quilts for Christmas gifts!!
trying to get caught up my Splendid sampler blocks!
Today I’ve made the first 2 blocks in the Solstice, using QOV theme fabrics and now pulling fabrics for a couple charity block swaps. Thanks for the challenges.
New Years day was yesterday downunder and I sewed for hours! I also did some tidying in my sewing room and spent some time reading – had a great day!
Be with my family and have our traditional New Year’s Day dinner.
Sew and make my list of UFOs for the year!
Work on quilts for two graduating High School grandsons. work on baby things for newest great granddaughter. work on bag for myself and maybe for sister-in-law. Go out to gun range for a little outside exercise.
I am sewing on my the UFO for January. About 8 blocks are finished but so much more to do. It’s raining outside so I’ll get a lot done.
I plan on doing some sewing today , working on a round Robin I am taking part in plus I need to get back to my SS blocks , it is going to be a fun day 😊
I will have a nice relaxing day at home and finish up some sewing projects. If I complete my To Do list I might clean.
I’m hiding in my studio working on a mystery quilt. (Sick husband needs peace and quiet.) First sewing I have done in about a month. Putting together my mental to-do list for the year. The word for the year is FINISH.
Today, I am re-evaluating. I will probably work on the locker hooking rug that I am making. I did decide that it isn’t my favorite project, but finishing it up will be satisfying, so I will perservere. The re-evaluating involves the SPACE that I do my sewing in. Every holiday or family get together, my sewing room has to transform back into the dining room. And I am getting tired of packing stuff up and moving it! So I am trying to decide if I want to put my sewing machine in another room, or exactly what I should do. Hard decisions!
Today started at 6:00am Eastern time for me. All decorations put away, mail shredded, sewing machine set-up, cleaned and ready for UFO’s in 2017!
Finishing a New Year Eve Mystery quilt.
Well, I am preparing dinner, sewing for a couple hours and reading a book for at least an hour. I will spend some time with the family and then work on a piece of knitting I am making for my hairdresser. Pretty productive New Years day. Happy New Year’s Day, Pat!
Packing for a move from Tx to OK. New house, new life. Moving close to my daughter and grand-daughters. Happy.
I’ve already done my exercises (yea, me!), and I was just checking my e-mail, before heading to my sewing room, when I saw this e-mail.
Now I’m off for one UFO to be finished today.
I wish I could sew! But Im cooking New Year’s dinner for my family at 12:30…. hopefully later perhaps I can get a little sewing in. I am hand quilting an applique quilt. Also, imhave purchased fabric to make another quilt–despite all my ufo’s’😉 And of course, the splendid sampler—
I’m planning to do a bit of quilting, take a walk to enjoy the sunshine, and then relax…..tomorrow it’s back to work!
I am hosting 2 couples for a casual ham dinner at our Lakehome on Lake Superior. I’ll be sharing my fabric for the Solstice challenge & the Pinterest Board I set up for a few us doing the 2017 Children’s Library mystery. I am also thinking about my game plan for visiting MSQC on our way south for the winter. I will also be gazing out the window at the beautiful Lake Superior!
I will get dressed, walk the dog, eat
what does not require cooking and sew.
Well, since it’s supposed to be bad luck to sew on New year’s, I plan to unsew 60+ quarter square halves that I sewed on the wrong side!!! Then I plan to cut my setting triangles and blocks for a quilt for my DIL…..And then I will cook my black eyed peas and greens to celebrate the new year!!!😄
I ma going to sew more and plan to sew something everyday! My studio is organized and stocked so no reason to procrastinate….off to the studio I go
I WILL finish my daughter and son-in-law’s wedding quilt! They have been married for 5 years and have a 14 month old baby! After that quilt is finished, I will work on finishing UFOs. Lots to do this year.
Happy New Year!
Looking forward to doing lots of UFO sewing this year, and to do more walking. I also want to do the Solstice challenge and your new block of the month. But first I need To take my sewing machine in to be serviced, oh how I will miss my machine, but I can get lots of quilt blocks cut and ready.
