Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…
- Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
- Take a walk, I want to walk more
- Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.
The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

Now for the fun!!!
What will you do today to kick off 2017?
Answer in the comments below by Jan 4 at 6pm EST and you could win this prize
Winner is Kathy B who said “My 2017 goals are to shine my sink which I am hopeful will spread thru out the house. I’m going to tame my sewing areas so I can get more done. I’m going to quilt more of my quilt tops. I’m going to cut projects for each machine I have. These will include nursing home quilts, baby quilts, pet quilts and some for family. I’m going to cut a simple quilt to send to my sewing granddaughter to put together. I am thinking of rejoining the church lady quilting bunch every other Thursday. I am going to get back into the habit of walking the pets.”

I plan to go through my batiks and pick fabrics for the 2017 BOM. Also working on appliqué in a quilt started in November . I’m looking forward to a great year reading and learning from this web site.
I will start to sew the strips for a Charity quilt for our guild. The pattern is Rail Head and the fabric comes from a member of our guild who lost her battle with Breast Cancer.
Happy New Year, Pat! And thank you for being so good to us followers – teaching, tutorials, free patterns, give aways — all that you do.
Today I’m going to cozy up to the Solstice Challenge blocks and some home made soup on this cold News Years Day!
I plan to continue to finish all those UFOs but….. I’m sure I will be creating others as well – finished projects and more UFOs.
Finish the Quilt I am making for my niece’s wedding present.
Plan to explore functions on my Retirement gift to myself, Bernina 770, with the embroidery module. Plan to piece, learn to embroider and learn to do the final quilting step. Hopefully improve on quality and finishes.
I’m going to sew, sew and sew some more. More FMQ is my goal. Opps but first I’ll reorganize my sewing room, today!
I plan on taking a walk and then starting the solstice blocks. Been under the weather also so it hard to get started. Pork/sauerkraut in crock pot and a cake baked so now on to the walk.
I am starting a baby quilt for my cousin’s first baby. 🙂
Planning on starting a quilt. I read everyday and look at all of the beautiful quilts. I would like to try one this year.
Sew clean relax cook walk – bring it on 2017 hoping for health and happiness for all.
Working on donation baby quilts!
Got my Solstice Challenge blocks done last night, so today will be
catching up on some BOM projects before starting this year’s BOM’s.
I am planning to sew, read, spend time with my family, go out to eat, watch a movie, work on my goals for the new year and just relax.
Today I will organize my sewing room, so I can get started on my UFO’s. I just can’t “seam” to get started on anything in a messy space.
I plan to do a little bit of everything, including praying. I have a Quilt of Valor strip piece set to finish sewing, the usually cooking and cleaning, and I guess I better work on lesson plans for next week. Have a great New Year!
Cutting 5 in squares, studio organization and laundry.
I’ve started to organize the cupboards in my sewing room. I need more space for my fabric so I’m purging my collection of woodworking books and gardening magazines that have been tucked away for years with the idea that I might someday look at them again. Hasn’t happened in years so it’s time for them to go to make way for my current hobby. Instead of “someday I might…”, I’m going to focus on “today I am doing …”.
I have prepared a dinner of scalloped potatoes and baked ham for my family, I’m designing a golf course picture baby quilt for our eighth grandchild due in February (a boy), and then relax with one last Christmas show on TV.
I have been cross country skiing. I have made hotdogs with the boys on a camp fire. Planning to do some quilting on my flaky friends prodject and maybe some splendid sampler blocks.
Today I am going to start the 365 day challenge and use up some beautiful fabric hiding in my closet. This is so I can buy more without guilt. Yeah.
I am visiting loved ones and looking at her quilting projects. I’m getting so inspired to get home and start my own!!!
Practice, Practice, Practice on the longarm I got for Christmas. And finish Quilting the many Quilts of Valor tops that I have that will be going to very deserving Veterans.
Happy Sewing!
To kick off the new year right, I’m going to quilt. My theme this year is to stay caught up in my life at home and work. So sadly that means I’m going to have to do some chores….but it also means I’ll get the second solstice block done. Happy new year!
First, I’ll be going for a long walk with my dog, and then I’ll take some time to sew. Later, I’ll be going to my folks’ house for a party to celebrate this new year. Looking forward to a great one!
Happy new year to all, and thanks Pat, for this opportunity to win!
I plan for 1/1/2017 is to tell every one I love Happy New Years and sew on my Quilt top.
Thank you Pat for all of the patterns as well as all of the advice and tips on Quilting
Happy New Year
Betty
I have pillow shams to make matching the quilt top I just finished.
I will be fixing steaks and baked potatoes for my daughter’s birthday before having cake and opening presents. My New Years baby born 55 years ago! Then I will be sewing, sewing, sewing.
I would love nothing more than to be in my sewing room today, however…it’s time to clean out the cabinets & rotate my canned food! It’s my New Year’s resolution…wahwah!
Today I’m going to start a new sewing project for my daughter. I’m going to spend some quality time with my loving husband and my dog. I also plan on just having some me time. I’m going to try something new on my new Janome and just enjoy the beginning of a new day in a new year.
Go see Star Wars with family, finish a UFO ( out with the old) and hopefully start something new. Happy New Year!
I am making a cathedral windows quilt top. It is going to be 100% hand stitched and it is my first time ever making this pattern and doing anything hand stitched with the exception of binding! So excited for this project and pushing myself out of my comfort level 🙂
The New Year always inspires me to clean. Not the regular stuff but underneath, like drawers and cupboards. Today I am starting in the studio, so many projects in various states of finish. Back into their boxes and the reveal of flat surfaces again. My word for this year. “Complete” as in finishes, schedules, promises, and personal health. Sunday drive is one of my favorite memories from a long ago childhood.
Today I will be deciding on fabrics for a tablerunner for my friend.
I am planning on sewing and spending time with family.
I am binding a quilt, then decluttering my sewing room.
I plan to finish a project for school (I will have my masters degree this year), Sew!, take my dog for a walk and sew some more!
I am newly retired, so I plan on whittling down my stash by making a LOT of things. First up is to finish the “Cookies For Santa” placemats for my daughter and SIL that didn’t quite make it for Santa! I’m also going to crochet myself some warm slippers, starting today. I live in the San Diego, CA area, and we are having some cold (for us) weather and some badly needed rain.
Looking forward to the New Year of sewing!
I plan to work on my 1/4 inch seam allowance. Then I plan to use up some of my fabric stash making quilts and pillowcases for DCF – for foster children. And I’m going to do the solstice challenge. Notice that is a “going to” not just a “plan to!”
I plan to clean my sewing room after my most recent projects. Need to get organized!
I am planning to make a few quilts this year, crochet prayer shawls for my church, spend more time in prayer, and kick this stage 4 breast cancer’s butt.
Happy New Year Pat! I opened our Blessings Jar for 2016, and am going to try and to Block #2 from Soltice byYou. We are ging to visit out Daughter and family for dinner later today. I’ve been doing some writing for my word for 2017 as well. Will let you know when that is done regarding making room/space in all areas of my life.
I am starting the Winter Solstice blocks this week so I am caught up. And I am doing the all people quilt challenge to complete UFOS in 2017. Last year I made it thru September….then Hurricane Matthew disrupted my life and still it, but I am sewing and knitting again. My to do list is pretty long. Happy New Year everyone.
I’m having New Year’s Day brunch with some quilt friends and spouses. Then later I am finishing part 6 of En Provence if I haven’t had too many mimosas at brunch.
Happy New Year.
I’m going to work on a project already started. Time to finish things up!
I am spending time quilting a dresden plate quilt, and some time walking to burn up those Christmas calories!
I plan to decide which of the many quilt block patterns are offered and to start sewing something!
Happy New Year 🙂
I plan to work on my Snow Daze Quilt and update my Crafty To-Do List which includes lots and lots of sewing and quilting and yarn projects and even some scrapbooking.
Looking forward to your new patterns and ideas for a fantastic 2017 !
