Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…

  • Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
  • Take a walk, I want to walk more
  • Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.

The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

  1. This year I have started of with a quilt for my brother, his favorite team colors. My challenge to myself is to try a new block every chance I get. Still new at so many things. The second block on Wednesday got me, but with practice I’ll get it.

  2. I am working on cleaning up sewing studio and organizing better. Today I am ironing all my scraps and getting them all cut into either squares or HST. I think this will lift a burden off my shoulders and help me be more organized when cutting!

  3. I will get started on finishing some home dec sewing projects I started some time ago so I can free up space and focus on quilting, quilting , quilting.

  4. Dropped my son and my parents off at the golf course for 9 holes then made the most of the peace and quiet by making a sweet little fabric jug that I’ve been planning for over 12 months!

  5. I finished a baby quilt with playful scene from the Sahara for one of my daughter’s best friend who is due in April. Can’t decide if the next project is a flannel shirt for me or one of my quilts in waiting…..

  6. I spent most of the day with our daughters and grandchildren and the evening starting the clean up process. Being with family is a great way to start a new year! Today (the 2nd) I sew!!

  7. I spent the day with family, enjoying each other’s company. Looking forward to making some changes in 2017 to find more time to do the things I’d like to do!

  8. I spent the day with family, enjoying each other’s company. Looking forward to making some changes in 2017 to find more time to do the things I’d like to do!

  9. I went for a walk, organized my sewing space and cut out a pattern. I am caught up on the winter solstice blocks, anxiously waiting for block 3!

  10. No more doll clothes for a while! made 15 outfits for Barbie & 18″ doll! I will finish the quilt for MY bed!

  11. I’m starting the new year making fabric boxes for supplies in my sewing room. This is the year to be organized!

  12. Today I am going to plan a quilt which will be mine. I had a wonderful year making things in 2016 but, at the end of the year, realised that my own bed is still covered in a pretty commercial blanket. 2017 is going to be a year of making some lovely things for my home. But there will be plenty of time for gifts along the way!

  13. I started the new year by putting away all the fabric I pulled out for Christmas presents. Once I accomplished that, I started clearing off my cutting table. I wanted to start the new year making gifts for birthdays and Christmas last year and failed miserably. So I decided to try again this year. So far, I have cut out three table runners, a couple of wall hangings, a pair of pillowcases, cut the binding for a quilt and will be making some new pillows for our new RV. I am also going through the things around my cutting table and getting rid of things that I am no longer interested in. My house is already feeling some relief but I still hear it yelling at me to get rid of more. LOL After my errands tomorrow, I will be cutting out the first two blocks of the Solstice Challenge and set up my embroidery machine to stitch out some cats for a wall hanging.

  14. I will tidy my sewing room and then pull out fabric for my next project – as yet undecided what it will be yet!

  15. I am kicking off 2017 with a new balanced diet. I’m cutting out as much processed food as I can and going back to natures basics….while finishing off my christmas stock of Baileys (other brands available :p), seen as it would be a shame to waste it!
So, in summary, 2017 = clean eating & boozy sewing!

  16. New Years day I sewed, spent time with my daughter, and drank mimosas 🙂
Really enjoying the solstice blocks so far have not done a sampler yet and hoping my love of rich bright colors will not clash with having to live together in a quilt lol. Thank you for doing this for us.

  17. Hi Pat I’m new to your page but looking forward to the salstice quilt block challenge.
I have started my new year with catching up with blocks 1and 2 as well as searching Pinterest for fabric weights for my daughters January topic of our monthly sewing challenge 😁

  18. I organized fabric in cabinet. I got pieces ready for 2nd block in solstice challenge. Very rewarding!!!

  19. I started my New Year off my beginning a King Size Quilt for me and the hubbys bed (I have none of my own quilts and it INFURIATES him, he loves them), it has several paper piecing parts to it and we will not be actually sleeping with it, its for pretty only. I am also ordered fabric for one we CAN sleep with. Which will please him. Lol.
I just started listening to your talk show recently and love it! Thank you thank you and keep it up 🙂 So great.

  20. Today I took time to finish 2 small projects. I tried organizing my scraps by color a different way. Made my list of UFOs. It’s funny how you don’t realize how many there are until you write them down. I also made my list of quilts I want to do this year aND BOMS I want to participate in. So far anyway.
What a wonderful way to start the New Year! Fabulous prize.

  21. I did a wonderful mystery top today that I will donate as a Canadian Quilt of Valour. My projects for 2017 are stacked up in my brain and appear there as beautifully executed items! One can always dream…

  22. Started the day with devotions and lots of strong coffee. Beautiful sunny but cold day so we took our sweet Golden for a walk. I was tempted to hit the fabric sales but just spent time looking at blocks on Pinterest. I am looking for a cute pillow pattern for Breast Cancer surgery patients to receive when they go home. The Oncology office calls them “comfort pillows” or “going home pillows”, about 8″X11″. I love the kind and creative quilting community.

  23. Today I spent time with my sunshine — our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter before they headed back home. Then I spent some time with my Featherweight, making the first two blocks due for the winter solstice challenge.

  24. I spent the day with my daughter and her family and with my son, visiting from Utah. The two youngest were sick so I stayed with them while the rest of the family went to church. Just fun being with family.

  25. For years I have did a Mystery on New Years day, so again made a quilt. Poor hubby was left to his t.v. but I made him a really good meal for letting me quilt. Happy New Year to all. :-}

  26. Today I took account of all the thing I said I wanted to accomplish this passed year, which one I actually did, which ones I didn’t and aren’t so important anymore, and wrote down some strong suggestions for accomplishments for 2017. I don’t do resolutions that I may not keep. I want to keep it pretty positive and possible. We ate lots of black eyed peas and cabbage for good luck (since we live in the south), my husband watched football, and I organized my sewing room and made plans for what I want to piece first. It was a good day.

  27. Watched some tv while finishing off a cross stitch I started over 10 years ago. I’ll have a nice hot bath shortly, so I can spend a quiet 30 minutes reading my book.

  28. Today I shopped the New Years sale for fabric I needed for a quilt top. I put together my new sewing chair I purchase with Christmas money. So now I am ready to see up the anew Year

  29. Today I shared time with my granddaughter. Had her help me cut and sew squares for the hot pads for bowls. Went to joanns to buy more wrap n zap also bought another ottlight. Cut out the squats for block 2 of the winter challenge. All in all a very quiet day

  30. Spent some time figuring out how to use up some blocks I had made in January last year just before my little boy was born. And finding the fabrics I want to use for the Winter Solstice challenge

  31. Today we came home from the cabin. And then I zipped to the fabric store for the New Year’s Day sale as it was too cold to sew in the house.
I organized by UFO lists, and updated my long neglected blog. Tomorrow I will get sewing!

  32. I started 2017 working at the hospital, wishing I could be doing something other than work, but then someone has to do it. Looking forward to days off.

  33. I went to my favorite quilt store to their New Years Day sale and bought some beautiful fabric for 2 quilts with some bestest quilting friends.

  34. Unfortunately I had to work – night shift on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. So I spent the first day of 2017 sleeping! I plan to make up for it tomorrow by making the second Solstice block and more Splendid Sampler blocks. Happy New Year Pat!

  35. My sweet hubby drove eight hours round trip to pick up a vintage sewing machine for my collection, a Singer 15-91!!! It was a sunny day here in Maine and we just enjoyed our drive visiting and listening to music. Happy new year to everyone!

  36. Spent time with our company and my dear husband, relaxing and kicking back, planning things I want to get done this year.

  37. I traveled home from visiting family! Did some hexie sewing on the plane to get my sewing in! Now I am cuddling with my cat who missed me for 9 days while I was gone!! Yay 2017!

  38. I had today all to myself as my husband went ice-fishing, so I spent the day down in my quilting room working on Step 1 and
2 of my peace, love, quilt hosted by Sharon Blackmore of Love Shack Quilts. I still have 3 more Steps to finish before I’m caught up with everyone else, so I’ll be working on those tomorrow. It was so beautiful but cold outside today, I really should have gone for a walk.

  39. UFO task. Yep, I pull out my label #1 quilt and completed the borders and started hand stitching the binding. What a sense of accomplishment. Tomorrow UFO #2. Will continue until I get side tracked which is so easy when reading your newsletters with upcoming blocks.

  40. I went to church, book a nap, began cleaning and washing after my family left and took a walk on a beautiful day. Then enjoyed some TV with my husband. a wonderful New Year’s Day.

  41. I had a wonderful restful day and did a little organizing in my sewing area, found some patterns I was looking for and realized I have more organizing I need to do. Lol
Sewed some tissue holders and got started on burp cloths for a shower gift.
    Happy New Year!
