Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…
- Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
- Take a walk, I want to walk more
- Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.
The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

Now for the fun!!!
What will you do today to kick off 2017?
Answer in the comments below by Jan 4 at 6pm EST and you could win this prize
Winner is Kathy B who said “My 2017 goals are to shine my sink which I am hopeful will spread thru out the house. I’m going to tame my sewing areas so I can get more done. I’m going to quilt more of my quilt tops. I’m going to cut projects for each machine I have. These will include nursing home quilts, baby quilts, pet quilts and some for family. I’m going to cut a simple quilt to send to my sewing granddaughter to put together. I am thinking of rejoining the church lady quilting bunch every other Thursday. I am going to get back into the habit of walking the pets.”

I have been unwell with very little energy. The rest of my family were away for new years celebrations. I found a little energy and I pottered about in my sewing room and made the first 2 blocks of the Solstice Challenge. My iron wouldn’t heat up, so I knocked on the neighbours door (she’s also a quilter) and borrowed hers. Enjoyed looking at the groups blocks for the solstice challenge. This year I’m hoping to get some UFO’s off the list and gifted.
Organizing
Today I listened to your podcast channel and made the first two blocks of the Solstice Challenge. Like you I like to spend more time sewing and quilting. Happy New Year!
I taught a pre-school Sunday School class, attended services, stayed and shared a meal with my church family, and came home and had a long nap!! When I got up, I discovered a new clue in my Mystery Quilt, and cut fabric, so that i can sew, sew, sew tomorrow. Ended my day, checking out What Pat is up to. Life is good.
I started the new year by going to church, then spent part of day with my family. Next I’m planning to finish putting boards on ufo quilt tomorrow.
Had a blessed day going to a Lord’s Table and meeting. Then a dear family from Burma helped us move a solid maple dresser my father-in-law gave us when we had to move him into a nursing home on Thursday. The family stayed for their first ever all-American dinner of black-eyed peas, turnip greens, and corn bread. What a delicious day! Tomorrow…continue addressing free motion quilting on my husband’s lap quilt…thanks to one Pat Sloan’s wonderful book!
Enjoyed listening to Pat’s 12/16 podcast, adding sashing to a 16 block sampler quilt, knitting and enjoying a nice dinner with family that included black eyed peas, Owensboro mutton and home baked Christmas cookies! Ready for 2017 and new things.
Wanted to get Christmas deco all packed up so I could house back in order, sewed on my new to me vintage sewing machines! And best of all, started a sister quilt with a friend,,we are doing a quilt together and sewing ½ the blocks for each other. Great start I would say
Thanks for the give away. Happy new year
Enjoyed one day of. OT having to work!!
Set up my new computer and dinner with my hubby!
I spent the day catching up on my e-mail and the blogs I read about quilting. I loved the day.
I cleaned and organized my sewing room so I can keep up with everything I want to do. So far, I’ve committed to two charity events and a baby quilt
I put Christmas to bed by taking the Christmas tree down and recycled the Christmas cards. Other than that it was a lazy day pondering the year ahead with what I would like to achieve. I want to expand my sewing knowledge and be more creative and not be afraid to cut into beautiful fabric! Bring on 2017 🙂
Today was our wedding anniversary, so we started the day as usual with church service, went out to dinner this afternoon. Back to sewing & quilting tomorrow! Fabric awaits.
I spent some time searching my stash for fabrics to make a baby quilt.
I did absolutely nothing…other than browsing on Pinterest, reading quilt blogs, eating tons of sweets and loving my snow day! Happy New Year!
I went ti church in the morning. And then I relaxed. All my family was here last night for new year. I cooked for them because is my firm to show it that I care. My 4 grandkids were here and they are my joy. Happy new year!
We had friends over for a New Year’s Day Dinner. I did spend a
few minutes checking my stash for a piece to finish out the Christmas stockings I am replacing – the current ones are too
small ! 🙂 Happy New Year to all! Going to take Pat’s advice-
at least 10 minutes a day on a quilt project. This is the year
of finished UFOs !!
Adding the applique on 8 blocks of my bom garden quilt, journaled and watching Alfred Hitchcock movies! Enjoying the day and evening.
Today wasn’t exactly what I’d hoped with food and fun. Instead, I spent the afternoon at the Home Going of a dear friend’s husband. While it was a difficult time, it was a stark reminder to me to enjoy life to its very fullest, every single day. And that means that before the clock strikes twelve, I will get a little sewing on a quilt!
I played catch-up with the Splendid Sampler, but I am not quite up to date. I also made the two blocks for the Solstice challenge. I made two blocks for the Aurifil Sampler 2016, but the last row was sewn wrong so I decided it was time to quit. Will finish it tomorrow!
I have come down with a respiratory illness so taking it easy and just did some blanket stitching around a large snowflake. Played out in the snow briefly…
Today being a Sunday was a busy church day however I did spend some time in planning a baby quilt for a friend due in July. Since she chooses to not find out the sex of the baby, I will make two quilts and gift the appropriate one.
I worked on Bonnie K Hunter’s En Provence mystery quilt on New Years Day and will be doing the same today because as usual I’m a bit behind. I hope you had a lovely New Years Eve and you get to do everything you wish throughout the year Pat.
Today I began with a spin class at 8 am! Then breakfast out, then a little yard work (sunny day in CO!) Then I finished cutting strips for a mystery quilt, made ribs in my Instant Pot, now watching The Crown. A full and wonderful way to start the new year. A little something if everything I love!
Enjoyed having family and friends for an Open house to kick off the New Year. Showed off my new cutting table and getting tv attached to wall to open up more space in Studio.
Save sewing for Monday.
Happy New Year!!
So far this SONday is an awesome start to 2017! At the gym by 6am, 3 miles on the treadmill and 2 miles on the recumbent bike. Put black eyed peas cooking; washed hair, put clothes washing, took a bath, clothes in dryer;dressed and at church by 9:30. Back home for 12:30, fixed smothered cabbage with sausage, finished off peas, roasted root vegetables, made cornbread dressing; Oh , and made Duck Confit with Riesling reduction!! Later today: read-sew-take a nap; repeat! ( Working on a Carpenters Star I started in 2011!)
Hope your day is also productive and satisfying!!
😘
I spent the day trying to kick a nasty cold, so there was lots of sleeping and reading.
I have completed two table runners,my ufo project. Also have a big organization happening in the sewing room. Ufo hunt caused a big reveal and a hunger to sew! Love the plan to get ufo a new name…done! Thanks for sew much fun! Marg
Spent the day sewing a mystery quilt with good friends and food included!
For the first couple of days of 2017 I have been listing cutting and making requirements in this year’s folder. I either copy them from the pattern or make up calc. sheets with diagrams so that they are easier to read. It also helps me to understand the instructions if I am writing them in my own words. Only one more to go then start on the 4 quilts I am doing this year.
I kicked off the new year with a church visit and prayers to finish the quilt I’m making for my grandson and to start and finish the rag quilt I’m going to make for my expected granddaughter! Already receiving many blessings in this new year!
I am finishing sewing two doll quilts for my niece’s twim 3 year old girls. I gave them both flannel rag quilts for xmas and felt that maybe their dolls would like a warm quilt too. I will get them in the mail on Tuesday. Then I plan on finally making a throw for myself so I have something cozy when I’m reading.
Very quiet day here relaxing
Relaxing today, watching New Year movie on Halmark Channel. Will get busy on my to do list which includes Solace blocks and UFO to finish.
I spent time with grandchildren and children in TX and tomorrow we head home. I will knit while traveling.
I started the year here in Australia, swimming in the pool with close friends and family. Today on the second day of the year i have been tidying my sewing room in preparation for some quilting. Hope you are having a swell time whatever you are doing.
I will sew, sew, sew. This is the one day a year I sew all day and don’t think about everything else that needs doing. Happy New Year!
I am frogging today. I evidently did not read all of the pattern correctly so I am having to frog 28 blocks. Bad thing is that each of these blocks have 16 component. I did not size them correctly, so I have to size each one! But 2017 will be a good year with a lot of sewing.
Today, I have spent some quality time with my hubby. Also, pieced five setting blocks and cut out the pieced borders for my BOM that I’m determined to finish! (one of my UFO’s). Now, taking time to catch up on my emails, look at my favorite blogs and download my patterns that I need to catch up on. Hope everyone has a very productive New Year!
I scrap busted….always good to start with a clear workspace…
My husband had knee replacement surgery on December 27th. I’m going to use the time we spend at home to reorganize my FABRIC ROOM. I don’t have a sewing room there is too much fabric, and my machine is at my besties house. I am making lists: UFOs by what is left to be done, Kits, Applique Projects, Quilts to be cut that I can do here at home, Pull Fabrics for future quilts,Create a new, larger design wall. I also am exploring learning opportunities so my quilting buddy and I can take a few road trips. I’m looking forward to a very creative 2017!
went hunting with my husband. We haven’t seen much of each other lately so it was a nice change.
To start the new year I finished the 2nd solstice block, went sledding with my son and completed 4 blocks on my 365 challenge quilt. Also did the Muniain stuff like sweep, tidy and make dinner.
Heading to California from Australian West Coast. Hope to go to a few quiltshops and am akso going to Road to California quilt show yeah!
I am doing blanket stitch(by hand) around photos on grandson’s athletic tshirt quilt, hoping to finish tomorrow. It was his Christmas present.
I want to learn. Learn quilting, sewing, and embroidery techniques. I want to cook things I never made before. I want to learn.
I am working on a border for a quilt. Hopefully I can get it on the frame this week.
Kicking off 2017 with our family’s yearly tradition of having prime rib dinner. My hubby makes a MEAN prime rib! I make my mother’s cherished recipe of popovers with honey butter. After a day of leftovers, the frig will be normal again and our daily routines will resume. I just started digging through my stash so I can begin the Solstice challenge. so looking forward to no cooking, cleaning, or company for a while! Selfish – yes!
We have had quite a busy week with the holidays and two birthdays….lots of cooking and entertaining! Our daughter and son-in-law are currently driving back to Houston (from our home in Virginia) and I sat for a majority of the day, relaxing while reading a book and making a list of all the quilting/sewing projects I want to tackle in January and February. In the next several months, I would love to make several Christmas gifts for next year and be ahead of my holiday sewing for the first time ever!
