Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…

  • Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
  • Take a walk, I want to walk more
  • Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.

The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

  1. Today is Jan 1, 2017 I put the border on the Saturday Sampler that our local quilt store did this past year. The border was called a deck of cards and was mitered at the corners it really kicked by butt but I got it done. Its not as perfect as I like it but its ready for the final border to go on once the fabric comes in at the quilt store. Then I can take it to the quilters for her long arm magic.

  2. I filled out my UFO challenge list for 2017. Also relaxed and thought about how to proceed with #6.

  3. I can’t wait to start this challenge. I have plenty to choose from in my stash! Thanks for putting this together.

  4. I started out the new year with one of my quilt bff’s working on a new project! Then we are getting together tomorrow as that is our regular day to meet.

  5. Finished putting away stuff from Christmas, cleaned out the refrigerator which means I took it apart and cleaned it good. Then I finished a scarf I was crocheting and then I picked out my fabric to start my blocks! This is going to be so much fun!

  6. My New Year has stared with gardening, swimming, sewing, dinner, bed, repeat. So far so good. Working on a couple of kiddie quilts for January and February babies.looing forward to the UFO challenge, have my 12 picked and a couple of spares…

  7. Had a relaxing day with my wonderful family…son, daughter in law and three year old granddaughter, daughter (flying home has we speak), and my hubby and mom. It was a very nice family day. Thinking about things I have to start doing tomorrow. Yikes..UFOs will take years. lol
    HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

  8. I started 2017 quilting, yippee … I dove right in and joined a few quilting online challenges. I had lost my Quilting Vibe … I had way too many UFO’s weighing me down until I ground to a halt; this year I have determined to get my Quilting Joy back. To make new quilts to share with family. To join in the Quilting Community … online works well for me. A stitching here we go … In 2017 I plan to share and live with Joy! Happy New Year everyone

  9. I have kicked off 2017 by having a birthday and sewing on 3 different projects. Looking forward to a great quilt year.

  10. Started putting away some of my Christmas. Then I did #2 block of Solstice Challenge. I really don’t like it think I’ll be doing it over tomorrow.

  11. I watched a movie with my son and just relaxed around the house. I did work on a little hand quilting but mostly just had a relaxing day.

  12. I have just started the solstice challenge. I haven’t been motivated to quilt in over a year. But am excited to quilt along with everyone. Waiting patiently for block number 3 on Wednesday.

  13. I did some more embroidery on the Secret Garden Quilt. Two blocks left to embroidery. Some rows are already put together. So excited it looks wonderful. I have a bad, stuffy nose and sinus headache so not so focused but working on that. Used my Neti Pot a couple of times today think it is a little better. Ready to Sew, Sew, and more sew all week. Have by list with some things on it and my fabrics about pulled together for New Library Books BOM. Both of the first Equinox blocks are done. Love those. Thanks Pat Happy New Year. Love the new 80 wt. thread that came in the box from Fatquarter shop.

  14. I put away the last of the Christmas decorations. Then I did some sewing. And finally made pork and sauerkraut for my family. Spending time with my grandchildren is the best.

  15. I spent time with family until evening; a goal for the year is to spend more time with family.
Tonight I have started out by taking a look at Bonnie Hunter’s reveal of En Provence mystery quilt. I want to do a wall hanging version and I have graphed out what I will do, counted the units I need and the units I have already. I have not enough of some and too many of others and need to decide if I can substitute some of the extras for some of the ones I am lacking. Next step will be to lay out what I have done, make those decisions, and choose the last fabrics.
Another goal for this year is to finish at least one wall hanging using SS. I have 50 Splendid Sampler blocks done. 25 are sashed and I need to sash the other 25 to use for a reversible wall hanging.

  16. Participated in a Mystery Quilt with friends, sewed all day and completed a crib sized quilt. It will be donated to a local charity once quilted and bound. Friends, quilting, and a good deed…a good start to 2017.

  17. I’m going to sew, sew, sew–working on a new baby quilt (new grand baby coming in June), working on my 365 Challenge blocks, and working on a HUGE, IT-WILL-TAKE-ME-FOREVER hexagon quilt. I couldn’t be happier (unless I win the drawing, of course)!

  18. 3 hour cross country ski, wood for wood stove, epsom salt bath, choosing colors/fabric for ‘Mystery Quilt’, decided on practicing Italian daily and more time in sewing room for 2017!

  19. Your plans sound like great fun Pat! My 2017 plans are to take my mother on a couple short trips, participate in at least one quilting challenge, and get at least seven hours of sleep a night. I’m an English teach and my other resolution is to grade and return essays to my students within three days – which makes the 7 hours of sleep difficult, but that’s the goal!

  20. I finished 2 nappy bags to be given as gifts for workmates next week, completed block 1 of a 365 day challenge that I’m participating in and started block 6 of a BOM that I’m doing with my quilting group. I’m working on my Mum’s theory that you had to spend New Years Day doing something you loved, to set the theme for the year.

  21. Happy New Year. Today, I completed block 2 of Moda’s Be my Neighbor sew along. I have a box of random vintage fabrics and decided to use that for my inspiration. If completed, this will be my first large quilt project. Maybe a bit ambitious for this beginner, but so far, so good. Practice make progress. Thanks for all of your wonderful blogs etc. I really enjoy learning from others.

  22. I finished and presented two “Santa Paws” blankets for my grand-dogs and can now move on to some other UFO’s, my sewing/quilting conscience clearer for the new year!

  23. I spent the day sewing, working on my quilting goals for 2017. Also made dinner for daughter and son-in-law and spending time with granddaughter.

  24. I had some little projects prepped to sew, so I did that and cooked for New Year’s day dinner. My sewing was little items for stocking stuffers for 2017, so I’ve started my Christmas sewing!

  25. I went to work, took a nap and took care of the farm animals. Other sure if I’ll have time for sewing tonight.

  26. To start off 2017, I ran with the dog today instead of my leisurly stroll. Then I worked on a UFO – I plan to finish several this year and use up some of my stash.

  27. It is the 2 January in Australia and I have plans for today to organise my winter solstice challenge. I spent the 1 January gardening, as it was a beautiful day to be out. It is about to get quite warm here. Where I am it can reach quite high temperatures, 40+C. Today is forecasted to be in the high 30’s, so very much an indoors type of day. I will be determining my colour way and maybe even stitching the blocks. I have a very large fabric stash that will be utilized. I have already been ‘digging’ into it to make the blocks for the Splendid Sampler as well. I am also an avid embroider so my days and evenings are pretty full. My word for this year is very much in line with the ‘can do ‘ approach of, sew, sew and more sewing and stitching as I make a lot of my blocks by hand stitching them. Enjoy and have fun stitching.

  28. Started off my morning having breakfast with my granddaughters. Then baked some bread. Spent the afternoon hand sewing on my hexagon quilt. It has been a great relaxing 1st day of 2017.

  29. Today, I had breakfast(brunch) with the grandkids, son and DIL. Made chili for supper. Then went up to my sewing room to Skype sew with my friend. My one word for the year is complete. So I am working on completing things that I have started and will start this year in all areas of my life.

  30. I am starting to organize my “stuff” both household and quilty things. But first we needed to take down the Christmas decorations. All done now so that was accomplished. Yea!

  31. I am working on a Tshirt quilt for my friend who lost her husband last year. It is a memory quilt made out of all his running shirts. I did take time to go for a ski too!

  32. First thing I did today was attend church. I wished all my family members a happy new year and had a healthy lunch. Then I took a nap (had a late night last night :-)) and then watched a movie with my hubby and cat. Spending more time with family and loved ones is what I want to do this year.

  33. Jan 1st has been spent with my lovely in-laws who are celebrating their Diamond wedding (60th) anniversary today. It’s been a lovely, if noisy lol, day with family & friends coming from all over the UK for their special day.

  34. organized my sewing room. (ALMOST done!) Pinned a binding. Had a quiet dinner with the husband. Prayed.

  35. Got my machine adjusted and did the first two Solstice blocks done. Went for a walk with my husband. Thanks for the chance and the challenge.

  36. After watching church on TV and then attending our local church, I decided to try to be more attentive to my Monthly Challenges and BOMs. I forget sometimes to download what is necessary WHEN is it available. After fixing our lunch meal, I spent rest of day/eve with hubby watching football (yes, I like to watch but don’t do stats, etc. I Plan to start sewing everyday (I do now mostly but would like to be more regimented — making it a habit. There are so many patterns that I’d like to do. AND so many great designers (Pat). But, also plan on making time EVERY day to practice my FMQ and to learn Ruler work. I have a Bernina 770Q&E so I can’t leave out my embroidery work.

  37. My Jan 1st is always a day of contemplation. I look back on the past year–the things that went well and those that didn’t. And then I look forward to what I want to do in the new year and what I’m ready to toss aside. All in all, it was a good day.
