Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…
- Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
- Take a walk, I want to walk more
- Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.
The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

Now for the fun!!!
What will you do today to kick off 2017?
Answer in the comments below by Jan 4 at 6pm EST and you could win this prize
Winner is Kathy B who said “My 2017 goals are to shine my sink which I am hopeful will spread thru out the house. I’m going to tame my sewing areas so I can get more done. I’m going to quilt more of my quilt tops. I’m going to cut projects for each machine I have. These will include nursing home quilts, baby quilts, pet quilts and some for family. I’m going to cut a simple quilt to send to my sewing granddaughter to put together. I am thinking of rejoining the church lady quilting bunch every other Thursday. I am going to get back into the habit of walking the pets.”

I will begin finishing UFOs and making new quilt blocks.
Tidy up my sewing room, organize unfinished projects to complete this year. I sew, do cross stitch, appliqué and make stuffed animals for my 4 grandkids.
Organizing and purging my studio! I want to be able to walk in each morning of 2017 to a clean and organized studio and be ready to quilt the day away! I am working on a blog and a website for 2017 and just know that the new year will be an awesome one!
I set my goals of finishing 4 quilts that are ready to quilt and getting more organized.
Today I’m with my sewing group who meets every Monday. I’m working on an embroidered quilt.
Today I will work on one or two of my Secret Garden BOM. Tomorrow I have to go back to work, so going to end my vacation time in true quilty fashion.
Kicking off 2017 by working on samples for a class I’m teaching at statewide guild meeting in June! And, of course, making nt blocks for my new Solstice quilt!!
I’m getting my sewing room organized, starting to sash my Splendid Sampler blocks, and working on a project I started in 2016!
I began the day organizing in my sewing room and finished the day completing the few fabric ornaments that I had cut out but not assembled. Now they are ready for impulsive giving next Christmas! My rather lofty goal is to complete as many WIPs as I can manage. When I consider how much storage space I can liberate it makes me giddy.
Today I am going to be working on finishing up a baby quilt that I’m anxious to give to a new mommy. My goal for 2017 is to stay on top of my block of the month from my LQS and to do some quilting for myself.
Sew for my self more.
I am going to try to use fabric from my stash this year. I have already started the New Year with a Strip Butterfly quilt that I am using everything (so far) from my stash! So proud of myself.
I was in the sewing room when I could be and with family for the rest of it! Got a couple quilts organized to start and hope to have them well under way during the rest of January 2017!
Thanks, Pat for all you do!
Work on quilting a queen size top.
I sew historical reproduction gowns for a living, so getting a gown finished allows me some time to quilt. I am going to participate in your Solstice project.a block a week is sooooo doable!
I am doing my first block swap bee hive this month and will pull fabric for it and start sewing. It is paper piecing! Not my favorite thing but I joined to “stretch” my skills.
You are such an inspiring person. Thanks for all you do! I am working on organizing my sewing room and completing ALL of my WIP’s.
I love your work Pat. I’m setting up a temporary sewing room in the living room of a small apartment in a new city, new state, new year. Husband will start extensive cancer treatment here for three months. Deciding what to bring with me was a challenge. I’m going to do some BOM projects and relax with him.
Yesterday I made my list, today I start on #6.
I’m sewing together blocks from a quilt group exchange. My husband is building me an “ironing station” that I need to start painting. My sewing room is in desperate need of organizing. My mind is willing but my energy is zapped by this cold/crud!
Today I will start doing some cleaning and sorting that is long overdue. Think I might start with clearing off my cutting table. And work on balancing the cleaning/sorting with finishing projects.
I’m terrible at ‘long-term’ projects — sticking with them and finishing them, that is. One of my major goals this year is to work on that, and I like your comment about ‘starting as you intend to continue’. I need to apply that one to every single day.
I really want to finish some of my UFO’s in 2017, I didn’t do a very good job in 2016!! So I’m gonna nag to try again!! I hope it works this time!
I have many projects i want to finish up this year and use up at least a little of my stash.
SEW ! PRESS ! SEW !
Walk the dog and SEW some more.
Organize, organize, organize…..my room really needs it! Hope to get the binding on a sunflower quilt for my daughter who just moved to Florida. Time to get sewing….
I sew block two from solstice challenge!!
I am going to finish Moda’s Be my Neighbor quilt top. I just need to sash and get the boarders on. Excited to get back to the Splendid Sampler and organize my area a little better.
I am going to clean and organized my sewing room and then finish some UFO’s. But I also want to do a tree of life quilt this year
I did some organizing in my sewing room and then actually sewed! Busting some stash and UFOs this year. I hope you feel better soon.
I will start my yoga practice today.
Now that my family has all gone home I will be spending time cleaning and reorganizing my sewing room for 2017. Can’t wait to start some new projects and get caught up on splendid sampler blocks!
Happy New Year! I will continue sewing together blocks from a free motion block of the month series. Hopefully I will be able to begin quilting one of them.
I spent yesterday cross stitching and spending time with the family. I’m so excited about the coming year and the many projects that are coming along with it.
First thing I need to do is reorganize my sewing room to make room for the new sewing machine I got my granddaughters for Christmas. They’ve recently watched a couple of Project Runway Jr episodes and are excited to get started learning to sew their own clothes. I have plans to finish several projects this year : 5 Christmas stockings for my grandchildren, quilting and binding a quilt top my mom made before she passed in 2011 and working on the solstice blocks. It’s going to be a busy year.
My plan was to see if I could get back to longarming after straining my back on one before Christmas. I got side tracked by my husband. This year I am going to set aside a good amount of time, in the form of appointments, dedicated to piecing and quilting.
I spent yesterday basting hexagons. I’m planning on organizing my sewing room. I’m going to start clearing off bookshelves today, so I can get more quilt books on them. I’m also going through my fabric. I want to be more organized so, I can spend more time sewing this year.
I started out the new year by planning for the completion of too many UFOs. I plan on having lots of finishes this year. Happy New Year!
Today I”M going to relax after all the friends and family during the last two weeks. And by relaxing I mean sewing a few blocks of Splendid Sampler .
I will be in my sewing room, setting up a cutting table and my new Olga Cutting mat! Yay! I can’t wait. Then I have to pick up a few clothes from a local boutique for our Community Services Center and Food Bank.It will be a busy day, but can’t wait to get set up &start on my solstice blocks.
Meditate is my focus word for this year. So, I am spending time today thinking before I do things. I, too, rush through my days and, often, at the end of a day feel like a worn-out robot. Meditating is going to help me slow the pace, make thoughtful choices, and appreciate the blessings in my life!
I worked on a block from “My Secret Garden”. Planning to do another today after the parade.
We started New Year’s Day playing games with friends! Although I have several personal goals, I really want 2017 to be more about spening time with people and less time online. Honest-to-goodness laughter and great memories = a great 2017!
I love following you and seeing your beautiful designs and your guests. I am going to start by jumping in and getting some things done that I have put off. I need to do a major house cleaning before I start any more sewing projects. I tend to push this back, so I can sew!!
Relax and enjoy family. As much as I want to kick off 2017 with sewing…. I know that will only happen when the kids go back to school and the hubby goes back to work. Then my new year of sewing will begin. I have so many projects that I hope to complete, start, and even discover this year. 2017 is going to be awesome!!
Thanks for doing a giveaway. I’m excited about seeing along with you this year!
I spent the morning saying goodby to family and sending them on their way home. Then a tidy up of the guest rooms and bathrooms before making way for my sewing and crafting to come out of hiding. Set up the machine and organized all my current projects so I can just sit down and go to work. I have an Orange Peel Quilt in the works, some quilting of beautiful cotton towels, and a crochet baby gift in the works.
hi – happy new year – finished the latest splendid sampler bonus block and now working on my ufo list.
I went to church, visited with family, finished putting my little place back together after taking down Christmas decorations, had a fabulous dinner with my family and came home and dreamed about getting organized in all parts of my life! Today, January 2nd I clicked on a news feed in FB and found this site. Starting 2017 off right. Heading out now to my local Y and hope I find a parking place so I can swim exercise like I have been doing the last 15 years. Hope to continue to enjoy this new found site. I’m new to quilting. Happy 2017 everyone.
First is a list of all ufos and then picking at least 12 but maybe trying to fit in a few smaller ones to finish as well. Second a reorganization of the sewing room so there are no distractions. Deadline for this is Jan 8
I spent half the day working on a UFO from the early 2000’s, a gift for a friend having surgery in 2 weeks. I’ll try to get it on the quilt frame today!
It was a ME day yesterday!
Went trapshooting all day had a blast!
Today I’m going to work on sewing my disappearing 9 patch at old lady craft day at the church
Then come home and go to work for a couple hours at weight watchers.
Might have to visit JoAnns.🤔🤣(50%)
