Jan 1, 2017… the first page of our new year is so FULL of possibilities! My personal tradition is to be SURE I do a few minutes of ALL the things I want to do MORE of this year. For me that is…
- Sew sew sew!!! did I mention sew?
- Take a walk, I want to walk more
- Take a few minutes to be relaxed, maybe read, look at a book, or just listen to some music. Take some time to let my mine think. I tend to be a go-go-go person and have to force myself to slow down.
The Quilt behind my Question is my new ‘Pinwheel Park’ Layer cake pattern + one fabric pattern, hope you make one!

Now for the fun!!!
What will you do today to kick off 2017?
Answer in the comments below by Jan 4 at 6pm EST and you could win this prize
Winner is Kathy B who said “My 2017 goals are to shine my sink which I am hopeful will spread thru out the house. I’m going to tame my sewing areas so I can get more done. I’m going to quilt more of my quilt tops. I’m going to cut projects for each machine I have. These will include nursing home quilts, baby quilts, pet quilts and some for family. I’m going to cut a simple quilt to send to my sewing granddaughter to put together. I am thinking of rejoining the church lady quilting bunch every other Thursday. I am going to get back into the habit of walking the pets.”

I’m looking forward to starting a new quilt project, taking a walk with my family, and doing some final holiday baking so they have some cookies to take home with them. Happy New Year!
I have been sewing sewing sewing today! I try to sew everyday. My ancestors always said, ‘whatever you’re doing on New Year’s day is what you will be doing all year. I hope so, because I love sewing. Can’t wait to be retired. Have so many projects planned and stashed away waiting for that day to get here. 🙂
Already planned to go on three retreats, Feb, April and May. Finish UFO’S (14 of them). Complete Summer Solstice project. I love to Quilt.
I sewed binding on a table runner, a baby quilt and four placemats all of which are UFOS. Now I am going to hand sew the other side to finish all
I am going to improve my sewing skills. I’ve always just winged it, and I’ve done some great work, but I want to learn to do it right. I have been so impressed with all the helpful comments on the FB page in response to our Solstice Challenge blocks. I’m learning! I’m going to make a block each week, or more. I’m going to exercise 4 days each week, or more, and I’m going to be happy regardless of my external circumstances. Life is supposed to be fun, right???? Well then, let the fun begin!
Plan on sewing, finishing some it I project and finally start the splendid sampler
After organizing my craft room (purging is definitely involved!!), my resolution is this: On M/T/Th plus one weekend day, I plan to spend 1 hour sewing, 1 hour reading and 30 minutes walking. I started doing a smaller version of this after Halloween, so I plan to step it up!!! My goal is to make 1 complete quilt, read 17 books and lose 20 pounds … … … Thank you, Pat, for the inspiration!!! Bring on 2017!!!
Today I will continue on my tree skirt. And start some baby quilts. Happy New Year!
I’m going to finish the Christmas table toppers that are half completed then get back to my splendid sampler blocks!!
I will be cleaning and organizing my sewing room in prep for some serious sewing time. I have several ufo’s to finish this year.

I am working on a Dresden Plate baby blanket today.
I plan to finish rearranging my sewing room and then tackle a quilt mug rug.
A lady I worked with turns 90 this month and her daughter had given her a quilted blouse years ago, and it was pretty worn. Her daughter asked if I could take the good parts and sew it on a sweater for her Mum. Her Mum is in a senior’s home and not doing so well. Her Mom was a quilter, and she quilted a lot, so this means a lot to her daughter, especially since the lady now has dementia, and the hope is the quilted pieces on the sweater will spark some memories. I’ve been working on it pretty straight the last 4 days, and hope to have it done asap and that memories will once again be shared between these 2 lovely ladies.
I’m new here to your site, and look forward to following you in 2017. Looks like fun.
Today I hope to get a start on organizing my sewing stuff and then tackle a baby quilt. Multiple friends currently pregnant!
I am sewing all day with a break for lunch. I am finishing up a red and white sampler quilt putting on the borders. Quilting is my therapy!

Relax and see. All our celebrating was done over Christmas
I will be sewing as soon as I begin the archaeological dig in my disaster of a sewing room. The dig began last night and will continue until I can sew daily!
This year I hope to do something I have NEVER done — organize! My fabric and sewing tools have taken over. They are everywhere and in no particular place where I can put my finger on them when needed. I hope to do the Solstice challenge also — seems do-able, even with a home business and a day job to work around.
I am working on a tractor quilt for my grandson.
I will be reorganizing my sewing room and putting my new sewing chair in it!😀😊🎉
Finish my son to be granddaughters baby quilt
I will be my Lori holt cow block for our fair quilt this a Holstein last it was jersey one. Happy New Year of quilting
I am starting to cut a wedding quilt for my middle daughter. I am trying to be brave and go outside my comfort zone with both pattern difficulty and color(her pick of fabric)
Rising above the trials of 2016 and creating a positive 2017
I am spending New Years Day at my husbands side. If I can pull myself away, I will begin working on his chemo quilt. 😢
Unfortunately, I don’t see much sewing in my future for today. I have at least 13 straight days of work ahead, possibly more. Although my days are normally short, they have a tendency to start around 3 or 4 am. I was able to finish one hexie flower that I needed to complete, ok, I wanted to complete. I’m sitting here trying to decide if I should start something else or maybe go to the gym. My body is saying I need to sit here and do basically nothing, but I really want to do some kind of sewing.
Church, sewing and then evening with the hubby. A full say!
Busy with grandkids today visiting from out of town. Hope to sneak up to my sewing room to add a few strips to a row quilt I’m planning with my scraps. Happy New Year to all.
I am planning on finishing the blocks for my red work quilt and following along with the Solstice quilt blocks challenge.
Happy New Year! I’m planning to quilt a border.

I listed and organized my UFO’s Then put in my calendar the dates each one needs to be started & finished (according to season or gift etc.) I used my new label machine on each bin & stacked by date. Now I’m cutting blocks for your solstice quilt to catch up with block 1 & 2 👏🤗
Sewing of course! Planning which UFOs to try to finish in 2017, working on my Splendid Sampler and starting my Solstice blocks (just found the fabric collection I’ve been looking for in my stash for the past two weeks!). Reorganizing my sewing space can be saved for another day…
Already made one block to send to a friend that is making a hug quilt and got another cut out to do. Then plan to make the blocks you have given us so far on the latest project. Thank you so much for your generosity in giving us this project to play along with!
I’m finishing only quilt I didn’t get finished last year. But a bit under the weather so going slower than I had hoped. I’m excited about what I’m gonna learn and experience in the quilting world this year. I feel like a whole new world is in front of me.
