🧵I have a Book for one of YOU! And Make A Wish wrap up!

I have a HUGE thank you to everyone that sent me a note to tell me if you read these emails, watch my videos, and are in my quilting community. 💕 I really enjoyed hearing from you!  I FORGOT that we can't reply to the notice anymore as it's a new company and it works differently. To contact me you need to put in my email pat@patsloan.org

It is such an honor to make chairity quilts each year, and the Make a Wish project is so cool as it 'takes a village' to raise the funds that we all do. My quilt is made with help from my friend Bobbie who works with me on piecing it and my friend Karin who quilted it for Chairty. Both of them deserve a huge shout out 🎉for helping support Make a Wish!

The weather here is turning cooler, which is a bit unusual for northern Virginia.  I suspect we'll get 'another summer' sometime in September with a few more days of high temps. Although my plants are loving these cooler temps and I don't have to water all of them every day, bonus!

If you love to read, in my group for 'non quilting' things I talk about on Youtube, you can check out the reading post, loads of great reads!  Go to THIS POST

"Have you ever added patchwork to clothing?"

I did that back in the 70s but would love to do it again with Kanta sitching!

  1. Kantha is very interesting to me also, Pat. I would love to win the book and give it a try. Love your videos and website with my morning coffee!

  2. Have added patchwork to tote bags, jackets—even pillows. Surprised how patchwork can make a difference in transforming plain, ordinary clothing and everyday household items. Great way to express one’s creativity!

  3. I have not added patchwork to clothes but I did wear them when I was growing up. My mom would add patches to knees on pants. Looks like a great book!

  4. I remember my mom adding patchwork to my clothes in the 70s; she passed away shortly after. I no longer have the clothes and would love to learn the techniques so that I can remember her and learning something that she knew how to do.

  5. Pat, I’ve made a patchwork jacket like some others have commented. I’ve very interested in the stitching shown in the book.

  6. Would love to add Kantha book to my collection! I think the term “slow stitching” is now being used to include a lot of these previously used techniques and processes. Interesting for sure.

  7. I have not added patchwork to clothing. I have added/appliqued fabric to the cheap reusable grocery bags. LOL
Your Make a Wish quilt turned out lovely!

  8. I’m sure I added patchwork to clothing in my younger years although I can’t think of any specific instance off hand in the moment. Totally have this style of stitching on my short list for a wall hanging quilt though.

  9. Yes, found a jean Bill Blas jacket and added embroidery and patches to it. Love to wear it in cooler wheather.

  10. I have added patchwork and embroidery to clothes since the 1970’s. My latest project was patching up Barbie clothes for my grand-daughter.

  11. I have purchased a few quilted clothes items. I am fascinated with the Kantha type stitching and would love to learn more about it.

  12. I have been doing a lot of reading about Kantha and Kawandi stitching and have seen some beautiful pieces. This book would further my knowledge and perhaps give me the boost to try it.

  13. I remember adding some simple embroidery around a hole in my jeans, but I never patched with fabric. My sister was a 60’s child so she had patched clothing but I was almost a decade younger and missed the era. Kantha seems similar to Boro Stitching; my guild just had a guest lecture on Boro, so it would be wonderful to win this book and compare the two techniques.

  14. I have not added patchwork to clothing, but that book looks very interesting so maybe it is something I might like to try in the future.

  15. Kantha Kantha Kantha! I love this! It’s new to me but looks see fun!
I’d love to try this type of stitching.

  16. Yes, I have done patchwork on clothing. What makes it special is using leftover quilting squares to enhance or cover up flaws in order to continue to use the piece of clothing, especially if you love it and want to continue to wear it. Nothing better than holding on to a favorite shirt or pair of jeans.

  17. I have never tried Kantha but I purchased a pair of jeans that have a patch on one thigh with the beautiful stitches♥️

  18. I’ve been exploring Kawandi style piecing and Pojagi. Kantha sounds interesting too. I did patchwork mending in the 70’s and it seems to be popular now. Your “Make A Wish” quilt is lovely!

  19. I’ve added patchwork to clothes many times to mend a hole. I started a Kantha journal and would love the book for inspiration. Great show today as always.

  20. I haven’t added patchwork to clothing. I do love the Kantha stitches though. That dress you showed would so be worth making. 🙂 Thank you Pat!

  21. Hello Pat, I enjoy how your share your progress on your quilts and other thing related to quilting, either tools, fabric, or ideas. Thank you for another great book that will be won by one of us:)

  22. I did add patches, rik-rak to clothes in the 70’s. The “Kantha” book looks fun and full of history. I love quilting, embroidery, and history.

  23. I have never added patchwork to clothing. However, it might be time! I have a pair of distressed jeans with a hole or 2 in the leg, that my toes always catch in and I always think “you should really patch that” 😄

  24. Oh my! Do I ever! My husband’s jeans have been patched and than repatched and repatched again. I have practiced my free motion quilting on some of the patches. Sometimes, I think I have a scarecrow out working in the yard. Love to win the book to get more ideas for his scarecrow jeans. LOL. Thank You Pat.

  25. Patchwork queen here with a husband who worked construction and two boys rough-housing it was a requirement! Ha ha. It was called “ make do” in my house! Thank you for the chance to win a book about the more artsy side of patchwork.

  26. A couple of weeks ago, I read how to do this technique to repurpose worn clothing into wash cloths or scrub cloths out of older worn out clothing. Something that has been done in Japan for many generations. I would to do this technique on a jacket.

  27. In the 70’s I added patchwork to my jeans. The knees, the seat, and where the flares would get chewed up by my bicycle chain!

  28. I haven’t added patchwork to quilting but I’d like to. I had to smile, though, my mother was always telling me to add some thing like Rick rack or ribbon or fabric to make pants longer or to cover holes in clothing. She never threw anything away. She would be very interested in this method if she were still alive:-)
