** Hometown Charms! Block #3 **

Friday Night lights, let the weekend begin! What goes on in your town? Or what did you used to do? This winter I need to go watch ice skating again at the outdoor rink, so fun!

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** with their Friday Night Lights!

  • MelissaThe town hall in the town I grew up in was built in 1885. The top arched window is where our brownie troop met. The bottom arched entry way led you into the basketball court. The local freshman basketball team played all their games there and I was a cheerleader. On Sat. all the local kids showed up and it became the skating rink. Every event begins at this location from the local park it faces. All the parades, summer concerts etc. The town is rich in architecture with 35 different types of housing.

  • SuzanneMy father in law owned the local gas station and my husband as a young boy ran it during the days and would see all the dragsters come and go to the strip. He is to this day a car lover. a pretty famous drag strip was here until 1976 called  Dover Dragstrip.

  • Carrie GTown Sports – we also have softball, baseball and soccer sports programs for our children, in addition to the amazing school sports. All of the families attend the games, and at the end of each season a big picnic is held celebrating all of the players and coaches. There are water balloon throwing contests, bounce houses, kickball games and a coaches vs. players game! The whole town comes out to picnic and enjoy each other's company.

  • KendallFriday nights my friends and I would head to the the Roller Skate and Ten Pin Bowling Centre. We would skate for a while to the Friday Night disco skate, and then bowl a few frames in the Twilight Bowl. This was essentially the same as regular bowling, with the addition of some fun games and challenges thrown in.

  • BarbaraIn high school it was all about Friday night football games! As a cheerleader I was at every one! After the games everyone headed to the local mom and pop pizza shop to either celebrate a win or console a loss with lots of pizza and pop.

  • BobbieOther than Friday night HS football, I do believe they rolled up the sidewalks at dark.

  • LyleenLots of spend the night parties. Trips to the roller rink or movies. We called ourselves the Pea Brain Gang and had so much fun together.

  • LauraThe one thing I remember was the High School football games. My friend played the flute during the marching band and pep band. During their breaks I would go up and sit next to her. There was a really cute drummer in the band. I was a Sophomore he was a Senior. I had a crush on him but I never told anyone. 7 years later my mom set me up on a blind date at my mom and dad's house. It was "him" and I married him 5 months after our blind date. That was 23 years ago.

  • KathyLocal carnivals with rides and games of chance, caramel apples and cotton candy.

  1. I loved reading the ambassadors stories. Reminds me of Friday night games when I was in high school as the president of pep club. I was never a cheerleader.

  2. On Friday nights my boyfriend and I would scoop the loop around the city square to see who was out doing the same thing. BTW we ended up getting married a few years later. He had a black and white 57 Chevy. Great memories.

  3. The ambassador’s stories were great fun and also conjured up memories of Friday nights. Now Melissa’s town sounds like a wonderful place to live.
