For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser đ
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds â community quiltsâ. Over the years Iâve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a âfriendâ to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itâs a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereâs always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itâs a good thing.
Alzheimerâs research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10â more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. My favourite holiday tradition is decorating cut out sugar cookies. We did it as children and we continued through each generation – my children then my grandchildren- still waiting on the greats to arrive.
My favourite holiday sweet treat is actual the cookies you just showed us. My cousin who lives in Hamburg has sent me Christmas treats from Germany for the past three years and these big soft ginger flavoured cookies are my favs!
My favorite holiday traditions are making spritz cookies with my daughter a few days before Christmas and then decorating them on Christmas Eve. On Christmas morning, we always have to have monkey bread with hot chocolate. My favorite holiday treats are the rolo pretzel bites.
We always go to a children’s theater for a Christmas themed play, and then back home to a festive meal. There are 20 of us now, so lots of fun!
My favorite holiday tradition is getting together with family and decorating the tree. Laughing and telling stories about when we were children. My favorite cookie is the shortbread/pecan snowball. Happy Thanksgivings and Happy Birthday.
My favorite holiday tradition is going through the ornaments as Iâm decorating the tree. In the early eighties I started making a new ornament each year, often relative to something that happened during the year. It sure brings back a lot of memories.
Our Christmas Tradition is to get with all the Family and have Christmas Dinner and just to get to visit with everyone (or as many as you can get to) there are about 50 of us. Sometimes even more just depends on who shows up. We have a gift exchange lots of food pictures and fun!
Favorite Holiday Treet would be Coconut Cream Pie, or Cherry Cobbler or Sweet Potato Pie.

My favorite tradition is having my children and grandchildren over on Christmas Eve. This is my way of continuing a tradition from my childhood of going to my grandparents and being together with my mom’s family. So many great memories.
My favorite holiday treat is my Motherâs Brown Sugar Cookies with buttercream frosting. Oh my my my my my!!
My favorite holiday tradition is viewing Christmas light displays. From neighborhoods that have many decorated houses to the town plaza, where it seems that we’re entering a fairy land.

My favorite holiday tradition was making fudge and cheese balls for the neighbors. As a single parent household, there wasnât a lot of money, but mom wanted to show her love and appreciation for our friends and neighbors. So, every year we made fudge and cheese balls for them. I didnât know how much it meant to them until momâs funeral, when so many spoke of it fondly.

My favorite Holiday tradition: The whole family all gets together (or as many that can make it) for brunch and then snack all day. Rather than doing gifts, each person brings one gift for a Chinese gift exchange….usually pretty funny and can get exciting. Plus we play games all day and enjoy each others company.

My favorite holiday tradition is all of us adults watching all the children open their Christmas gifts first! Plus, Santa brings our 3 Siberian Huskies gifts too, it’s fun to watch them play with the toys or chew their bones.

I absolutely love Christmas as it is my birthday as well. I start decorating on the day after Thanksgiving and donât take down until sometime in January. My favorite sweets are pumpkin pie and German chocolate cake. My grandmother made the very best German chocolate cake. I love Christmas!!

My favorite holiday tradition is the huge family gathering on Christmas Eve night. On Thanksgiving we would draw names and then my whole “immediate” family (all 22 of us) would get together on Christmas Eve and have a meal and open our gift exchange gifts. We could never open gifts until my Uncle Don finished eating and he was the slowest eater! đ It wasn’t the gifts or the food that made it special, it was all of us being together. It was magical.
The best part of the holidays for me is spending time with my family. Having everyone here and making room on the mantle to hang more stockings for more family! (Including the fur babies LOL)
Christmas is my favorite holiday and I think my favorite tradition is decorating the house and finding all sorts of books and crannies to put decorations in and on. Favorite treat is hands down Gingerbread Men! My mother always had a huge tray of Christmas cookies and treats and the gingerbread men went first. I used to make a tray when the kids were young, and, again, the gingerbread men went first. Now that they are older and gone, they try to eat healthy and not eat as much sugar. My husband and I also have watch what we eat, so I donât really bake much any more. But, I still make gingerbread men every single year and we all look forward to eating them.
My favorite holiday tradition is singing with the local city choir! On the first weekend of December we sing with the local symphony to put on a Christmas concert and it includes a snippet of the ballet’s Nutcracker. So much fun!

As for holiday sweets, there are way too many! My grandkids come over every year to make cookies with Gammy. So Christmas cookies are probably my favorite. I also love the Peppermint Chocolate milkshake from Chick-Fil-a.
It was always traditional in my house growing up that the Christmas tree went up on the 1st of Dec and came down on the 31st Dec. Now I’m in my own house with my own family It doesn’t go up as early, But always comes down on the 31st, and we never open any presents till you are dressed and had breakfast. Lol.
Hi Pat, the book was very interesting and pretty quilt that I would love to try to make I donât have books I m a beginner and follow sew alongs baby steps right. I truly appreciate all that you do for us quilters. My favorite tradition is making my motherâs red velvet cake for the holidays, Iâm the only one left in my family so with my only son I am trying to teach him all the things that come natural for us girls Lol. My favorite holiday sweet, I actually have many but my indulgence is cool whip on whatever pie I have. I like the cool whip a little frozen and have been known to get a spoon and eat it like ice cream.
My favorite Christmas time cookie is Lebkuchen. My mother-in-law makes them each year and doles them out like gold.
She gives my husband his very own tin which he hides away. We will “drop in” at his mother’s just to have lebkuchen. I would love to receive a tin of these cookies!!!

My favorite family tradition is going to the tree farm and picking the tree. We would ride a tractor to the lot and back. They had a little shop were we could warm up with wreaths, kissing ball and hot cocoa. The smell of fresh pine and chocolate brings back so many family memories.

My favorite holiday tradition is putting up the tree. It is fun to remember where each ornament came from and enjoy my time with my older children to complete the task. My oldest is on her own now and she will have her own tree for the first time so it will be fun to see how she decorates it.

Fun places all over Austin, Texas for backdrops. Seeing the parade of lights in Zilker Park or the tree lighting at the capital. Anything with family.
My favorite Christmas holiday tradition is the Christmas stockings. After everyoneâs open their presents and are full of food and someone remembers we still have stockings to do! Family time together at the holidays is the best.

Favorite treats would have to be nut cups, made with either walnuts or pecans. Iâm a pecan person. They are like a small tart.
