Well this is a FUN day! Not one but TWO giveaways and the last block of Home Town Charms!
For our final HomeTown Charms block we come together to do good work. We end the blocks with Charity. It is the cornerstone of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors in so many ways. It might be an ongoing project, or fundraising for a very specific need. Working together to do good is an incredible thing we as humans can be part of.

*** Sloan Zone Ambassador team *** their charity and fundraiser š
- Kendall – I helped fundraise to get a church bell tower completed after being missing for 100 years, we also got bells for the tower from a church in England that was lost to fire, for example)
- Laura – My hometown now, Bellefontaine (French for beautiful spring) is being revitalized. By a group of entrepreneurs called, Small Nation. Our town has become a standard for other towns who are now restoring their towns. Small Nation has basically gone through gutted each building/business and restored it back to its original beauty. Old dilapidated buildings have been saved. And Our town has the smallest street (McKinley St) in America and the first concrete street in America (court st) It was a test street.
- Suzanne – Like many quilters, I pitch in with my guilds ā community quiltsā. Over the years Iāve made tops and now quilt for the group. They supply quilts to our local childrens homes , womens shelter, local sheriff and fire departments emergency response teams. I also quilt for a group in neighboring Connecticut called Quilts that Care. They supply quilts to cancer patients in treatment and in hospice. For over 30 years I have been a āfriendā to my local library.
- Barbara – My favorite charity currently is The Normady Project. Itās a organization created to help women who have escaped human trafficking, where they can learn to live independently through mentoring, support and encouragement. In addition, on-site classes are offered in areas of trauma recovery, healthy boundaries, life skills, employment skills, parenting skills, culinary skills, exercise and more.
- Carrie G – Both my daughter and I are Girl Scouts. We support our local council and service units efforts which not only empower young woman, but teaches them the importance of community service. Even my son benefited from his sister being a Scout for 13 years as he modeled what she learned through the organization.
- Kathy – Many of the groups I belong to do a Charity project each year. Over the years I have made quilts for preemie beds, lap quilts for Hospice, quilts for the woman's shelter, hats, scarves, and washcloths for the homeless. I also volunteer my time with several local organizations.
- Brenda -Growing up my mom taught me that no matter how bad you think you have it thereās always someone else that is having an even harder time. Giving and helping others itās a good thing.
Alzheimerās research I made 36 Art quilts which were auctioned and proceeds went to research. Pretty Chemo caps with machine embroidery made and donated to local Cancer treatment center. I even donated my hair minimum 10ā more than once. For cancer wigs that are provided free to patients. Crochet the tiniest hats & booties for our NICU. And also for theMarch of dimes preemie project. Making tiny quilts & blankets. Just the size of a legal envelope! Helps those fragile babies look more like real babies and gives comfort to the families. Just some of my ways to give to others
- Dorris – The quilt group I am in donates quilts to Quilts of valor, Child Advocacy, and Family Promise (a group for homeless or near homeless families with children in our county). There are only 8 of us on a regular basis and we have made and donated over 50 quilts so far this year. I do the quilting on a large percentage of the quilts in addition to doing my own.

My favorite holiday memory was going to Grandma's for Christmas Eve dinner. She would make ornaments throughout the year and her tree would be filled with her handcrafts. At the end of the evening we could select a new ornament to take home and put in our own Christmas stash. Our favorite holiday tradition is to decorate the day after Thanksgiving listening to Christmas music. My husband gets out the trees and the girls and I always decorate.
Our favorite holiday treat is making cut out sugar cookies. The girls always love to use the colored sugar to decorate them before the are popped into the oven.

Oops, I thought you were asking for another holiday tradition, then saw it was a sweet. So Iāll start over. My favorite sweet is peach cobbler. Iām not a fan of pies, but I still make them and fudge, but started adding peach cobbler. There is always leftover and thereās nothing better on a cold night than that cobbler and a cup of coffee!
My favorite ‘thing’ for the Holidays is not the objects but the gathering of the family members. We all enjoy getting together but it seems like it is getting more difficult these busy days.
My favorite holiday tradition is loading up the family (pups included) in our Jeep to view Christmas lights. We listen to Christmas music, drink hot chocolate, & generally ooh & ah at the lights.

My best Xmas tradition is opening Xmas crackers @ our family dinner. We love to wear the hat & see what prize is inside. Such joy! My favourite Xmas treat is plum pudding with hot caramel sauce. My mother in law made the best. Merry Xmas all.
My favorite Christmas tradition at our house it the Christmas puzzle. Each day in December I give my kids a handful of puzzle pieces and day by day, until Christmas, they try to put it all together, so that on Christmas morning, they will find the last pieces in their stockings and finish the puzzle. As they got older, the puzzles got harder with more pieces. These last few years I’ve been mixing together two or three puzzles. They never get to see the boxes until it is all done.
Our favorite Christmas tradition since the birth of my Grandkids, is our covert Christmas Eve operation. My daughter sends us a text saying the kids are in bed and sheās about to start reading them their stories. We jump in the car with a bag full of pine cones and a jingle bell ring. I park down the street with lights off, while my hubby goes up to their house and starts throwing pine cones on the roof. (When they roll off, it sounds like a bunch of deer). Then he shakes the bells and in a deep voice says something like Whoa, ā¦Donner, stop biting Blitzenā¦or some such nonsense. He can hear the kids squealing.! Then heās got to get back to the car and we hear about it the next day.
My favorite Christmas tradition is making my momās snack mix. She called it Scramble, and it includes pretzels, nuts, cereals, and a mix of oil seasoning that gets baked at a low temperature and stirred frequently. She made it every year, and gifted it to friends and family. Starting when my kids were younger, she gave them each a small āCharlie Brown ā tin of their own that got returned and refilled each year. This is our 2nd Christmas without her and Iāve started collecting the ingredients for this year.
We always play Bingo after Thanksgiving dinner with crazy and fun prizes for each winner and the grand prize for Blackout! Young and old get in on the fun. We also have a thanksgiving tablecloth that everyone signs at the table. I made it in 2012 and the names always bring back sweet memories.

Pecan snowball cookies are a family favorite on Christmas. They are also known as Russian tea cakes, Mexican wedding cakes and snowballs.They are all similar cookies with just slight variations. All yummy!!

My favorite tradition of the holiday I started when I was a teenager. For decades, my Dad’s aunt would go to a local craft shop that opened on Thanksgiving day and ran until Christmas Eve. Once I could drive I would go on Thanksgiving morning and be back before lunch to show what treasures I’d found. Even now, years after both my Dad’s aunt and my mother passed, I still look forward to seeing the crafts and talking to the ladies who run the shop.
Gingerbread cookies and sandtart cookies are my favorites this time of year.

There is nothing like the smell of a fresh cut tree to bring the holidays to life. My favorite Holiday Sweet has to be my Birthday Cake. Being born the day after Christmas didn’t stop my Mom and Dad from celebrating my Birthday separately from Christmas! I never got to open my birthday present on Christmas. Such thoughtful and loving parents!
Our favorite holiday traditions are we open one gift on Christmas Eve. But before we do we open our bible to Luke and read the birth of Christ story. My dad started this when my children were born. And itās sad we donāt have him to read to us now. But we do it because we should and in his memory.
My favorite Christmas cookie Is called a sandwich cookie. It is a butter rich cookie with ground almonds. Cut in small circles and baked. Then raspberry jam is spread in the middle of two and rolled in sugar. My favorite tradition is to hang up my childhood stocking, hang the plastic garland which has berries , leaves and birdhouses on it. I also love putting candy canes in the ceramic boot made by my aunt when I was very young.

My favorite holiday treat is a cookie called Almond Paste. It is a traditional Italian cookie and they only appear at Christmastime. I depend on my Italian heritage friends to gift them to me! My friends are the best.!!!
