When I started my free Wed quilt along, I had a goal of creating full quilts from the blocks, and adding them to my Free Pattern page

Today I have the Sticky Bun block from Grandma’s Kitchen as a full quilt!

I made with mostly French General Fabrics & Bella solids in black. (bella is 20% in Feb HERE)

I made this quilt for my mom’s husband Frandk.

He wanted a quilt ‘without flowers’. His mother made many many quilts and Franks treasures the ones he has from his mom.

I hope he loves it!

The best part of making a quilt is washing it, I love how it crinkles up and is so cuddly!

The quilting is by my friends Cindy & Dennis of Pinkpaw Studio. They used a Aurifil 40 wt and a modified baptist fan.

I did do a slight adjustment to the layout in the pattern below.

There are full strip sashings of 12.5″ instead of corners to connect the blocks. So if you want to do this adjustment

  • Sashing Cutting Directions – cut 60 sashing strips 2.5” x 12.5”
  • Corner blocks – cut 36  squares 2.5” x 2.5”
  • There is a 2″ wide outer border to frame it

If you make one, share it below!

My favorite book series is by my publisher called ‘The Big Book of’.  So many times we are holding a set of fabric. It might be a Fat Quarter group, or a set of scraps, or you need a book full of photos to inspire you, THIS is the series to get!

I have some of my projects in them too!

  1. You asked “What do I think” about the block – very nice pattern. I have a book of different patterns from “The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt. It is very informational and designs are explained for the name that it has been given. Tells about (a little) the person that created the block also.
Why did I say all that. Because a few of the patterns I’ve seen have come (i.e. The Whirlpool) was the very first block we did. I say it as an encouragement of a great job of picking designs and making your own designs at the same time.
Thanks for all you do Pat Sloan,
    Eve

  2. I don’t see the Fabric needs. How much background fabric do I need. And one strip set? Thanks for all you do!

  3. Love, love, love this quilt! I’ve been trying to decide which block(S) to use for my grandson’s Quilt of Valor.

  4. I love this pattern! You get a great positive/negative effect that I really like. I can see it in so many different colors-black and white prints with red centers against the solid black, colorful prints against white, or scrappy plaid shirtings opposite a tobacco brown with colorful solid squares. I want to make a BUNCH of these! Thank you!!!

  5. This is so beautiful, Pat! I hardly ever use solids and never do a black background. I can see that I’m missing out. Plus, Cindy and Dennis always do a terrific job! Thanks for sharing!
