  1. Canada eh!! Red and White baby!! My first quilt was a red and white disappearing nine patch!! I was so stunned by strip piecing! I got the quilting bug and have never looked back!! Thanks Pat, from Canada!! I watch you every morning with my cup of tea!!

  2. My first quilt that I stuck to and finished was a wall quilt and was all appliqued hearts inside of squares. I had no idea there was actually quilt thread for hand quilting or needles, lol. It came out nice so I had it on my wall for about 3 years.
By the way, I think pink is your color Pat, it looks great on you!

  3. My first quilt I made was using polyester squares. My Mom tied it. I still have this quilt but don’t use it much, it’s very heavy and hot. Use it when it is very cold. This quilt will last forever.

  4. My favorite childhood memory was moving across country from NY state to CA when I was 12 years old. Lots of camping fun, educational sites we discovered, and friends along the way. Very exciting trip and I still recall vividly some of the highlights, like the Grand Canyon visit. So fun! I also had a puzzle of the USA and learned the state capitals during our trip.

  5. My first quilt was for my dad. I gathered pieces of t-shirts from his grandkids. I made a quilted cushion for the new outdoor rocking chair we were giving him for his birthday. His grandkids have their own kids now…and he still has the cushion after all these years.

  6. The first quilt I made was going to be mine but I eventually gave it to my daughter because she loved the colors I put in it. With that quilt I taught myself to quilt and have been quilting for over 30 years but really got into quilting when we moved and I found a group that met every Monday. They were a great help to me and answered my quilting questions. My fabric choices have changed a lot in those years. Especially going from jewel tones to more pastel colors.

  7. My first quilt was just squares. Very very colorful but just squares. My seams were a bit crooked and my color variation huge but I was pleased with the result. I have no idea what happened to that quilt but today I doubt I would like it even a little. Guess I have moved on 50 years of quilting later and my tastes have changed.

  8. I made my first quilt (my oldest UFO) out of a book that my aunt gave me in 1974. She was the only family quilter I knew. I ran into trouble with the side triangles and put it away. Did a few more quilts in the 70s then stopped for around 20 years before doing Saturday Samplers and joining a guild. Still quilting 30 plus years later.

  9. The first quilt I made was for a friend of mine who was getting married. She had made one for me when I got married so felt I should do the same for her. Like the one she made me, it consisted of squares that her family and friends sent me. I Had some help and she was thrilled. Many years later, I made friends with ladies who were quilters and caught the ‘bug’ from them.

  10. My first quilt was for my granddaughter. I have since made multiple quilts for all the grands. When I go to visit they allow me to sleep under their quilts.

  11. My first quilt was made for my first granddaughter who was born in 2015. She still has the little cot size quilt. It was purple bubble quilt. My second quilt was a wedding ring quilt for my daughter, and I gave it to her last year before her wedding.

  12. This block would make a GREAT block a day block for March. Quick and easy!!! Just a thought for next March.

  13. I made my first quilt for a lady in our local Nursing Home many years ago. It was a large strawberry applique quilt. It was a lap size quilt so she could lay it over her legs while she sat in her wheelchair.

  14. My first quilt was a log cabin quilt made in 1981. I cut it out with scissors and said never again! It took me 23 years before I took up quilting in a big way.

  15. My first quilt went to my daughter. She was in high school at the time now she is almost 30!
I realized when I responded earlier I gave the wrong email address for my YouTube

  16. I made many quilt tops before completing a quilt. I think my earliest completed quilt was a hand appliqued Cabbage Patch doll quilt with machine piecing and quilting for my niece. I enjoyed it so much I made another with slight changes to borders and I still have it today. The Cabbage patch part looked exactly like the Cabbage Patch logo with various individual leaves and face in the middle. Sure would love to win the give-away quilt. It is a beauty!

  17. I made my very first quilt for myself. It’s the quilt I learned to make a quilt. I made it in a class and I went every 2 weeks 4 times. I even quilted it on my domestic quilt after taking some classes.

  18. My first quilt was a log cabin,in the 70’s.No rotary cutters then, and I didn’t know nothing about batting.I would buy a acrylic blanket at TG&Y and use for batting.
Wow,things have really changed in the quilting world.
Thank you Pat for sharing all your knowledge with us.

  19. MY FIRST QUILTS WERE WHEN I WAS A KID 10-13! MY GRANDMOTHER HAND MADE QUILTS AND I HAD TO LEARN HOW. IT WAS CARDBOARD, PAPER, SCISSORS, A HAND NEEDLE AND HAND QUILTING! OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE THOSE QUILTS IF THEY STILL HAVE THEM! NOW I USE A WHOLE DIFFERENT SET OF THINGS TO QUILT. I HAVE LEARNED A LOT OF THINGS IN THESE RECENT YEARS! SO MUCH HAS CHANGED SINCE MY FIRST QUILT.

  20. I made my first quilt with my second grade students to celebrate the bicentennial . I taught them how to embroider their name in a large blank block then I sewed them altogether and added the backing. The did the ties also. Certainly a real learning experience for them. Then didn’t make another one until my first grandson was born in 2013. My 4 sons helped me draw animals and I appliquéd them onto the blocks. Really fun

  21. I made my first quilt for myself. My sister gave me a Quilt in a Day class and I had never used a sewing machine before. She had given me basic instructions but not how to change the bobbin. While I was in class the bobbin ran out and the instructor had to show me what to do! I still have the quilt and that was over 30 years ago.

  22. I believe I made my first quilt for our family. I was playing with some hearts and appliqued them onto squares and sewed the squares together. That was a long time ago and I now am on quilt #84. Thanks to Pat, I have learned alot.

  23. I made my first quilt for my nephew and his new wife to celebrate their marriage. I entered it into my local county fair and won 2nd place.
