It was a Dark and Stormy night…
Besides quilting, knitting, crochet, gardening baking… we also love to read!
I’ll be updating this to find novels that include our favorite hobbies. If you have a suggestion leave in the comments

I read mostly on my kindle which I love! I have 2 of them. I do my Yoga and read at night on the upstairs one. Downstairs I use when cooking, looking up things and reading.

I love your quilts and anything else related to quilts! I don’t see how in the world you get everything you do done. This blog is amazing. I just stumbled upon your list of quilting novels. I love to read but find time is an issue. My husband and I listen to books while traveling and going to sleep at night. Audible has some terrific quilt books…many of the same authors you have listed. I love listening to them while I am cooking but also in my quilting room while piecing. Audible has a great series of multiple authors, most of which are not as well known as those listed. I thought you might like to see some of those as well: Quilts of Love is the series and can be found at this link: https://www.audible.com/search?keywords=quilts+of+love+series&ref-override=a_hp_t1_header_search&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_6&k=quilts+of+love+series&crid=3RT3MBTUCU1WL&sprefix=quilts%2Cna-audible-us%2C64&i=na-audible-us&url=search-alias%3Dna-audible-us&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_4&k=quilts+of+love+series&crid=35098E09RUDMO&sprefix=quil%2Cna-audible-us%2C63&i=na-audible-us&url=search-alias%3Dna-audible-us
Love this book. I bought up several to give as gifts.
Just copy it and paste it to your desktop.
Is there any way for you to make this list savable, printable? I would love to save this list for future reference.
Thank you so much for the reading list. I listen to audio books and have been looking for new authors. These will occupy me for a good while. Oh, and I am looking forward to trying the sugar cookie recipe. Have purchase the cream. Looking forward to delicious cookies. I watch you regularly and am doing the Sweet Dreams with you. Thanks again!
There is a great book for kids called The Ghost Who Was A Quilt. I bought it on Amazon and then made the quilt shown in the book in the same colors to go with the book as a gift for great granddaughter.
Chiaverini’s “The Christmas Boutique” builds it’s foundation from young men friends enlisting in WWII. Though heartbreaking, genuine forgiveness permeates and changes lives for the better. I will read “The Sugar Camp Quilt.” Love that Chiaverini’s quilt novels intertwine with real history. Thank you for the tip.
I love Earlene Fowler, Joanne Fluke, Arlene Sachitano, Marie Boswick, Mary Daheim, and many others on your list. However, since I read so many books and several at a time sometimes, I have resigned myself to getting ebooks from the library, or I would go broke. I will buy some if I really love it.
I have been reading other non-quilt books like the Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box, Magical Cats by Sofie Ryan(also known as Sofie Kelly).
Reading is my other hobby besides quilting.
Jennifer Chiaverini, author of the Elm Creek Quilt series of novels.
Pat, thank you for taking the time to develop these reading lists for all of us!
Absolutely love Debbie Macomber’s Blossom Street series 🌟 with the knitting patterns in them!
Your last reading list gave me some new authors to try. Your new one will give me more. One I can add for us Chocoholics is the Chocoholic mysteries by JoAnna Carol.
I love Earlene Fowler’s books. They take place on the central California coast, a place I know well and love. Her mystery’s are among my favorite of all time. I am checking this list for a new favorite. Jennifer Morgan
This author was the first mysteries I ever read. Got me hooked. Thanks
I am an avid reader and sometimes reading 2-3 books simultaneously. I will not own a kindle because I love new books. I love the smell of them when you open them, I love being the first to open a new book and I do enough daily with computers and technology that I don’t want one thing that I enjoy this much to switch over to technology. I read Nora Robert, Susan Wiggs, Barbara Delinsky, among many others. I can’t wait to read some of these authors I have never read before. Thanks for the list!
For the novel list: The Forgotten Seamstress by Liz Trenow
I just listened to a good book about sewing, had other things like crochet, carding wool and tatting init. It was set in France during their revolution. It is called “The Seamstress” by Allison Pittman. I really enjoyed it and recommend it!
The Chocolate chip cookie murder was my very first book I read on my Kindle. It was awesome! I’ve been reading on my kindle ever since
I read a lot but never have read these so must get with it. I love jigsaw puzzles. I work a lot of them during the winter.
Thank you so much for fun list. I will enjoy reading 📚 this winter. My new cozy goal to reclaim my love of reading.
Thank u Pat for ur list! I download to my Kindle App on my IPad. Though I haven’t read much since my husband passed 3 years ago. Maybe ur quilting list will get me reading again. I’ll try and I’ll let u know. Thank u for all u do!
I just finished a book by Sandra Dallas called The Persian Pickle Club.
The Elm Creek Quilts series by Jennifer Chiaverini.
I especially enjoyed “The Sugar Camp Quilt” — the story of how a quilt gave clues to follow the underground railroad. Very good read!
Spelling error spelling error Last name is Dulong. Sorry.
Great novels with a knitting theme are those written by Terri Delong. There are two series with several books in each. Best read in order.
Oh THANK YOU Pat for compiling this list. I really like that when you suggest something for us, you follow through and make it easy for us to do, whether a new technique, pattern, challenge, or book. So appreciate your calendar days too. It has helped me get motivated to plan for more quilting time and see my progress.
Hi Pat, my favorite novel related to quilts is by Sandra Dallas called Prayers for Sale.
Another favorite is Sarah’s Quilt by Nancy Turner. Both are historical fiction. BUT. ….
My all time favorite is a biography. It’ is the story of Grace Snyder (1882-1982).
It’s called No Time on My Hands by her daughter Nellie Snyder Yost. You won’t regret reading her story. Her amazing quilts can be seen in Nebraska.
The topic at our last guild meeting before the shutdown was quilting fiction/non-fiction.
Anne Canadeo writes the Black Sheep Knitting mysteries which I enjoy very much.
Thank you for the list. I hadn’t heard of some of them. Excited to try them out!
I love cozy mysteries. My Aunt in-law (?) introduced me to them a few years ago. Actually, right after my husband passed away in 2015. I like the hard copies. And even though they take up more space, obviously, than Kindle, I save them to re-read when I can’t get to the store to buy more.
I read this one about a quilt appraiser Ashby, Elizabeth, Jones, Four-Patch of Trouble…
Pat Sloan, I thought you were only looking for quilt mysteries. I think you might like to try the author Linda LeGarde Grover. Her books are not crime/murder mysteries, but more thoughtful relating to the mysteries of life. Her books are beautifully written and carry into the story. The Dance Boots can be read on your kindle, a seriese of linked short stories, perfect for your bedtime reading.

What an amazing list. I have read several of them. Thanks for sharing.
Your posts are wonderful and I have ordered some things😊.
Yours in quilting,
Sybil Hennebury ( superknitter)
Vannetta Chapman’s Shipshewana Amish Mystery Series. Other books feature quilts too
My first series I read was by Vanetta Chapman. It is quilting related and also a murder mystery. It’s the Shipshewanna series.
Sisters if the Quilt The Complete Triology by Cindy Woodsmall of WaterBook Press also When the Heart Cries; When the Morning Comes, When the Soul Mends (Random House)
A Thread of Darkness
(Queen Bees Quilt Shop Mystery #2)
by Sally Goldenbaum
You hooked me today! Thanks for the organized list.
Janet Bolin
Annette Mahon
Leann Sweeney
Lea Wait – cross stitcher
Hi Pat. I really enjoy our visits each day along with your challenges, and thought you might enjoy a beautiful quilting themed book for children called The Quiltermaker’s Gift by Jeff Brumbeau. It is about the beauty, and importance of giving and is full of beautiful quilts and the blocks used in construction. Although iintended for children, it is a gorgeous compilation of designs fit to sit on your coffee table.
Earlene Fowler is another author with a series
