I was asked to repost this oldie but goodie.. so here it is!

I have altered tshirts for years and years!
You can alter a t-shirt neckline with a easy little ‘x’ stitch. Have your needle (a chenille is good), Aurifil 12wt or another thread of similar weight. These photos were done a LONG time ago when I did this project with a similar thread.
BUY 12 wt AURIFIL .. the kits are a great way to pick up several colors

You are folding the neckline in half then making ‘x’ stitches.
Pretty much all it is! For the collar, fold the ribbing to meet the seam.
Start at the side. Hide the knot in the fold.

Stitch ‘x’s…. until done!
I try and keep the thread inside the ribbing so it doesn’t show too much on the inside.
But don’t stress over it. The collar is harder to needle than the rest.

I usually run out of the thread because a normal working strand won’t last to do all the way around
so I do the front first as it’s what I can see in the mirror!

For sleeves and hem. You will fold up towards the FRONT, twice. The first time is where you hide the knot. Start at the side.

something I do ALL the time..let me know if you try it!

the ‘x’ is the stitch that holds the double fold.

the look and the fit
I agree, I was hoping she would show it completed. π
I don’t understand why you are altering? Is it to change the look, the fit? I need a pic. π
Yes, picture please. Do not understand what the “x’s” are doing.
A picture of the completed shirt would be helpful. Good info though. Thanks Pat.
My thoughts exactly!
I undedstand also but since I don’t ever alter clothes I can’t get a picture in my head of what it will look like.
Would love to see the finished shirt….Thanks
I don’t understand why you would stitch x’s on a t-shirt. So I agree with others comments. Would you please post a picture of the finished project.
I agree Sharon, I understand the tutorial but would live to see how it looks finished! Fun idea to X it!
Very fun idea!
A finished pic would be helpful. I wonder do the Xs show?
I usually have to make the neckline smaller because a lot of t-shirts are too “loose” so I just take in the shoulder seam and cut off the excess. It’s not perfect but it’s better than gaping in the front. I like your “X”s though for other applications.

So what does the shirt look like when itβs done?
Pat,
I have been doing something similar to this on the sleeves for years only instead of stitching it down with thread I sew buttons on them. Usually about 7 buttons per sleeve, you know us quilters we all usually have a stash of buttons. LOL
