Our Next Block Wednesday Sew Along Theme is 'Cozy Things'… it's going to be a super fun 9 block quilt

***Cozy Things Mystery Sew Along Details***
This sew along theme is inspired by all things 'Cozy'. I have some fun ideas that will bring us into fall and winter, when we can all use some coziness!
DETAILS:
- RUNS: October 14, 2020 to December 16, 2020
- Blocks: 9 blocks, One new block a week. Finished block size 12" finished
- SIZE: Lap size - DOWNLOAD the Supply list WITH layout below
- Type of Blocks: Pieced
- TIMING: Wednesday around 7:30am EST. Email notice goes out noon-ish in my time zone, EST. The email is NEVER when the block is published.
- Quilt Photo Sharing: Share at my Facebook community or at the end of each article. You can share your fabric down below! I am using the same photo share for all the Block Wednesday.
FAQ:
- How many squares are in a layer cake? 42 squares 10" x 10". READ CAREFULLY as some companies sell 'petite' layer cakes with only 20 squares
- Can I use a Fat Quarter Bundle I don't have a layer cake? - Yes! A fat quarter is 18" x 20" .. a Layer Cake is 10" x 10"
- Can I use Stash (fabric I own) I don't have a layer cake? - Yes! Pull out a bundle of beautiful fabric
- Do I need the extra fabrics? yes you need some of it. There are setting squares (download the supply list /layout pattern below). Some of the extra fabric is for the setting squares. Some is to add to blocks since layers cakes don't have variety. This will give me a common fabric in the blocks
- Will I use all the fabric - Not all of it. With a layer cake you will use up some squares completely but some you might not use. And the extra fabrics won't be entirely used up.
- Can you show me the blocks in advance? No, it's a mystery
- What are the Technique? - All Easy Pieced. Each block will be named and a story/memory about something cozy
- NOTE: The Block does NOT LOOK like the topic of the week. This is not a pictorial quilt. I do a topic as it is way more fun than just plopping out a block. I love the memories and sometimes research that goes into the topic. That keeps my Sew alongs fun and unique.
***Fabric Options***

As you see on the supply list below, I'm using a LAYER CAKE + extra fabric. You will have some left over.
If you want a fabric border buy for that, it is NOT part of the pattern but you may want to get it now as fabric may not be available later
I'm going to sew with Snow Sweet, see the very end after the supply list download for my bundle.

Paper plates were really flimsy when the wicker holders were designed. They made the plates sturdy so you could load up on the main dish & the sides & not worry about losing your food if the plate gave way. Then the plastic sturdy plates & the Chinet ones were developed. I still have a stack of the wicker holders in storage. Mom always packed a table cloth for picnics cause you never knew what the table top was going to look like. There would be a thermos of water & a rag to wipe off the table of bird droppings, sap, leaves etc. At first the tablecloth was an old sheet but then the flannel backed plastic tablecloths were made. AlsoWhen that tablecloth was worn out it became a drop cloth You could say we picnicked all over the USA & Canada as camping was the way we vacationed. So we also had metal utensils. Paper plates could be tossed but water was heated to wash the utensils. When first married I showed my husband that on car trips if you had a plastic tablecloth you could stop & eat anywhere even if there wasn’t a table. It took him a while to learn that you just didn’t pack clothes for a trip but a cooler, tablecloth, plates, utensils including a sharp paring knife & a roll of paper towels. You could eat anywhere.
Mom had a small umbrella kind of item made out of netting (with a couple pipe cleaner bees attached) to set over her contribution to the potluck item that didn’t have a lid. This of course was to keep the flies off the platter.
And my tip…after the quilt is made, I may see something that doesn’t quite look right. One was an early quilt with a zigzag border and my HST got cut off at the corner. Currently it is the center of my Snowflake Quilt which I’ve decided now is too pale (I’m using a variety of blues from my stash on a white background). To correct these faux pas, I appliquĂ© a new piece on top of the old one. It adds little bulk to the quilt. That border HST was just a little sharper triangle. I remade the 9-patch for the Snowflake center and appliqued it into place over the old one. Then I can complete my FMQing. I know it’s a small thing, but it gives me satisfaction being able to catch and correct these little changes.
I’m confused – while printing Block 11, The Spread, Going on a Picnic, only the block diagrams printed – no writing, no measuremebts, etc. I printed twice with the same results. Help please!
Thought you might like to read an interpretation of the difference between the violin and the fiddle from the perspective of one of the characters in Louis Penny’s Three Pines Inspector Gamache series. The violin sings, the fiddle dances. Love what you do for us! So happy to see your hands/wrists doing so well.
I went on a picnic with relatives when I was visiting in Norway. Folks there are well known for their beautiful (and tasty) open face sandwiches. I was thoroughly surprised to see my cousin pull out an insulated little chest after a trek up the mountain. When she opened it up, she pulled out drawers — each one held a colorful, artistically arranged open face sandwich! These carefully made lunches were served on boats, too. What fun to have beauty in unexpected places!
Brenda that translation is on your end. be sure you have downloaded it to your computer then opened it. All my patterns are in English
Hey, no casts! Yeah!

Why is this week’s block not written in English?
We use the wicker plates under our paper plates. We also use plastic utensils. My husbands’grandmother had a wicker picnic basket that had storage for utensils. It is to delicate to use now so we display it in our home. Glad your wrists are better!!
We had an aluminum pitcher that was always used for our iced tea. Also, used the wicker plate holders and had clip on weights to hold down the tablecloth. My sister-in-law would always take an Indian print cotton bedspread for the tablecloth, the kind you used in college in the 60s and 70s until it wore out. It was colorful and perfect for a large picnic table!
Glad to see your wrists again! I’ve had to flush my hands with hot and then cold water after the gardening season and the quilting. It really helps.
The wicker paper plate holders often used at picnics, the plastic version is used daily at our house.
A little off topic, but your hair is so cute today! My favorite trick is to use my red glasses that turn everything shades of black and white when I lay out blocks. That way I can make sure my lights and darks are balanced.
So good to see your “wrists”. My favorite trick is to use weights left over from
physical therapy. I use them to hold my top, or sandwich on my biggest table to put
quilting pins, or whatever I would have to work on. It holds everything nicely
Keep healing
