I am the host of Aurifil’s Designer of the Month program for the last 6 years. And during that time we have had so many cute projects from our fantastic designers!  I suggested to the Aurifil we run the 2012 Embroidery Block of the Month again as it’s darling and many of you might have missed it! (I know.. hard to believe!)

Our January block is designed by my friend Roseann Kermes that is on my talk show often, you know her right? She is delightful and a very talented designer. This is her January bird block.

We are making the blocks again with AuriFloss and a black and white setting, I am IN LOVE with the AuriFloss, wooden spools, yummy colors.. yes please!

This is the original quilt done in 2012, you are going to LOVE these blocks!

I may make some of the shapes with applique, like the bird and branch.. do you think that would be cute?

  1. I can not believe I am hooked already on another block of the month. I loved the embroidery blocks in the splendid sampler so here I go again!

  2. so good to see you are bringing this back as I was not quilting when it was first done, presume if we alredy get your emails we do not need to sign up for these blocks. Also doing winter solstice but think I will be embroidering the heart as applique is not a technique I have learnt yet

  3. I have done embroidered pieces many years ago (20+), it seems that I’ve lost the art of it for some reason. Everything I’ve played with it, it looks like a tangled jungle of thread. I will keep working at it, although I Adore your idea of adding bits of fabric to complete the look!

  4. Es precioso el bloque del pájaro. Gracias Pat Sloan por estas cosas tan preciosas que nos regalas. Saludos.

  5. Pat, I would love to do this as I love handwork. My problem is where do I get the hand stitching thread by Aurifil.
