Join me on the APQ Quilt Along, it’s strips and blocks this year.. so fun!

Are you enjoying my new site ‘I Love to Make Quilts’?  I sure am!! It’s SEW exciting to see your Solstice blocks pop up on Wednesday!  My goal is a twice a week post for this website, the second will be either another fun quilt along I am hosting, maybe a cool deal I spotted, or a free pattern!

Each year APQ magazine hosts a Grand Quilt Along and it’s incredible fun to see all the variations! Lots of designers and bloggers join in. (Details)

We start NOW by making one of the 3 patterns, the Blue version is nice BIG squares, the red scrappy version, or at their website you can do one logcabin block, just for a ‘taste’ of it!

I have this bundle of Kate Spain Grand Canal that I want to play with, I love it!

I am kind of a Kate Spain groupie… shhh .. don’t tell anyone

Since what I have right now is a Fat Eight bundle, I might buy a few more 1/2 yd pieces, then I am pretty sure I will convert a few rectangles in the blue version to scrappy strips like the red version..

Question for you….

I am going to leave one color out, which would you remove?

The Goodies!

  1. Okay, then second choice would be the only burgundy print in the pile. Even tho I think it’s lovely, there are a number of the dark navy prints, but only one of the dark burgundy.

  2. Looks heavy on the teal/lt blue to my eye, I’d vote for leaving some of that out for better balance. Love all the variety, it’s a nice collection.

  3. I would take out all but one of the orange, I would leave one orange to pick up the orange in the blue and the teal.

  4. Ok, Sorry must have missed where you said that blue quilt. :-{
In that case I would either leave out the palest yellow or the one that is second over to the right if the darkest on the top. The one with the white ground. Got to looking ore at the materials and there are a lot more with the large flowers..old tired eyes..lol

  5. I would pull the large prints out as they do not act as any specific color on a consistent basis. The other colors all play off of each other and make a good combination!

  6. I like all the colors! However, it looks like almost half the fabrics have some shade of blue. Perhaps you can leave all the colors there and just remove a few of the fabrics.

  7. Leave out the dark blue with the large flower print. If is cut small you’ll lose the image, what a waste of a nice big print.

  8. I would leave out the orange. But really, since I’m a scrappy gal, if it were something I was making, I would use all of them!!!!

  9. Very pretty fabric. If you have to take out one colour, I would say the purple fuchsia colour. BTW I am having a blast with the solstice challenge. Thank you for putting it on. I am so happy to have found your FB page and love this site.

  10. I’d leave out the lime green (not the one with the flower peaking out!). Just doesn’t seem to go along with the rest of the group.

  11. I would leave out the orange, to me the other colours run together but the orange pops out. Love all the other colours.

  12. I would leave out the GREENS!! Even though I’m a fan of green, I think this pack could do without! 😜

  13. I think I would leave out the pink/purple. I love all the colors. Such a wonderful collection

  14. I would leave out the pinks. Not that I don’t love all of Kate’s color choices, but I think each of the others is more necessary and works better as a an “opposite side of the color wheel” color from another fantastic color. The pink adds a pleasant touch but not a vibrant one.

  15. I would leave out the aqua’s (the colours next to the green) as there are a lot of pale blue/green fabrics in the quilt.

  16. Honestly… I am so tired of quilts with the turquoise/aqua colors! Maybe try one without those colors. You absolutely need the orange color if you leave in the purple and pink colors.
Why am I always in the minority? My art teacher told me that either I was extremely talented or just lucky! LOL!!!
You decide Pat…it will be terrific any way you make it!!!
