*** Inspired by Hope ***
I've been so inspired by the Messages of Hope that the people of Italy have been hanging on their balconies and putting in the windows… Rainbows! This is to let their neighbors and friends know they are ok. And to give hope during this crazy pandemic. My wonderful friends at Aurifil Thread are based in Italy so my heart has been thinking of them so much the last few months.
Aurifil asked some of us to recreate the Rainbow banners with the ANDRÀ TUTTO BENE messages of hope. This roughly translates in English to 'Everything will be Okay'.. a message of hope.

*** Tutorial ***
Find your best Rainbow fabrics..
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indgo, Violet (ROY-G-BIV to remember the color order)
*** The Start ***
I decided to start on paper with this project. This let me have my full size hand drawing just like the many banners I see in Italy.
*** Applique ***
I'm doing fusible applique with Heat N Bond lite.
In my pattern, the rainbow unit is 3 parts to fit on the sheet. Trace as ONE unit.
Here are my Tools:

I did cut out the center of each strip
Leave just a little basting rim inside the line that your stitching will cover. This makes your project softer.
Create each stripe in the Rainbow
Match with your 50wt Aurifil thread for stitching
- Position your strips
- Then trim them along the bottom edge.
- Fuse to your background
*** Applique ***

*** Another Option ***
- An alternate to the blanket stitch is to straight stitch. Stitch about 1/8" inside the shape like above
- Which means anyone can do this!
*** Tracing the Embroidery ***
- Tape the pattern to the light box with Washi Tape
- Trace the words onto your fabric

Make your banner, with or without words
And hang it in your window!
This is my studio window. There is a street on the other side of my backyard fence, so I hope some of the people will see this as they drive by!

I just discovered this today, I will be making it as I just organized and measured fabric chunks. I think this sentiment is still relevant to life.
You inspired me with your 21/2 squares that you sew into a quilt! I cut many out from the small scraps. I had a 21/2 quilting square and fuzzy cut many little woodland animals.
So much fun making the mini rainbow quilt! Thank you a million for doing this.
Now to prepare for the May Rainbow quilt!
Thanks for the rainbow pattern! I just found it today and printed it. I didn’t have a big fabric stash before the quarantine, and I’ve been using scraps for projects, so hopefully I will have enough of each color. 🙂 I know I have green and yellow. I seem to have misplaced the link to the HST pattern in rainbow colors.

My first quilt was a very simple California King size bedspread for our new bed. I had trouble finding one in that size that wasn’t highly priced, so I quilted one. I was really happy how it turned out that I wanted to learn more about quilting. So glad I did. I’ve connected with some great people, and really enjoy myself.

I didn’t get the rainbow finished today, either. I do have all of the parts cut out and ready to put together. I’ll get it done tomorrow. =) I loved rainbows as a small child and learned the order by color mixing the primary colors. I think I must have done it at daycare in Germany when we were stationed over there because I can’t remember a time when I didn’t know the order. (The things we learn as children, eh?)
I love hearing you talk about being stationed in Germany near the Rhine. That’s where we were also, at Ramstein Air Force Base (although we lived off-base in Keidrich). Every time you talk about it I wonder which base you were stationed at. =)
Funny, you saying that all the time you were there you never made it to Italy. Same here! Every time my mom planned a trip there something would come up. (Usually the car broke down) Some day I would like to travel to Italy.

I did not get the rainbow, nor the pouch done. I did finish a nightgown I had started 30 years ago, I also started going through a bin. In the bin was a ziplock bag that had leftovers from other quilts. Looking at the contents, I have 16 blocks, add sashing and cornerstones to complete a quilt; I have two sets of 15 four patches, 8 sets of strips to be cross cut and sewn into four patches. These four patches are yet again another quilt. Not what I planned, but still moving forward.
