Did you notice the Directional flowers are doing the ‘right way’ in my half square triangle blocks?

You can nail it every time by just doing an audition

  • Fold it and see how it looks
  • If it’s not right, rotate.
  • Then press the diagonal
  • Use the 2 at a time method to make your perfect directional HST units!

It was POURING yesterday and all of a sudden the sun came out!

So I was racing the weather to get the block sewn into the row

And the row into the top! I’m VERY excited about this.

I am doing to do a border for this one. I want it for mine. So if you also want it, it will be after the last block is released. So there are 5 more weeks to go!

  1. I love watching the horse shows. A trip to the fair is never complete without going through the Home Economics building to see the handmade items.

  2. I was born and raised in Detroit so trips to the Michigan State Fair were all about the animals for me. I got to see REAL LIVE ANIMALS! Now I moved farther north and our County Fair is held in the village I live in and yes it’s still about the animals but now it’s bittersweet because I know that when they are auctioned off they won’t be going to someone’s home as a pet.

  3. Since this is a quilting site, I supposed I should say my favorite thing at the fair is all the beautiful quilts and sewing projects on display. I love walking through and ooohing and ahhhing. I must admit, the event that I most look forward to is the Pig Races. They are hilarious and bring a week’s worth of laughter in one short sitting. Perhaps you can create a State Fair quilt and create a cute block to represent the Pig Races.

  4. I enjoy the arts and especially the quilt section.Kids showed livestock so went many years but haven’t gone for years. It’s too hot..August. Can’t take the heat anymore.

  5. After living all my life in the Midwest my first state fair was when I moved here to Texas three years ago……really amazing…. especially all the wonderful quilts !

  6. Fairs are long over here in the south. Usually happen in the beginning of April.
I like the pig shows, and disconnected k9s

  7. We have a state fair here in my area of NC, I love the food, exhibits, and all around fun & excitement the atmosphere holds.

  8. Hola Pat Sloan! Me encanta este bloque, es hermoso. Y muchas gracias por tus explicaciones. Saludos de Margarita. Chao.

  9. I’m thrilled to see the County Fair block! I’ve been treasurer of the Piatt County Fair in Illinois for years, and it’s fun to see a block for the Fair. Yay, 2 passions of mine combined. Thanks, Pat!

  10. Dear Pat, just wanted to let you know I still enjoy your blog and other quilt patterns, but I’m still working on my two quilt tops {for my two youngest grand-daughters} of Grandma”s Kitchen. When they are completed I will send some pictures. Thank You for sharing your love of quilts and quilting.

  11. WOW! One more row of blocks!!! I’m so excited! I haven’t started sewing my rows together, but I don’t think I can wait any longer!!!! Love this block, but then I love all the blocks in this QAL!
In FL the fair was in February or March before it was too hot to enjoy. I use to love the food and seeing all the animals. My husband loved the games and always would win me something. Here in KY the county fair starts end of May I believe. My son went the first time last year and decided after a bad experience on the rides (shouldn’t eat before the spinning rides!) that he never wants to go back!

  12. If you haven’t been to the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa, you’re missing out! Ten days and larger than a lot of state fairs, it begins the Saturday after Labor Day every year. We would go a couple times during the 10 days, because the displays and animals change out midway through.

  13. I love this block! My favorite part of the fair is going into the Home Arts building and seeing all the beautiful quilts people have submitted for judging. Eye candy!!
