  1. I make a basic potato salad. I use either red potatoes or regular potatoes. cut in medium chucks, not too large or too small before I cook; eggs cut in sixes or eights, 2-3 celery stalks chopped in small slices, maybe a little onion, two to three radishes sliced, or quartered if too large of slices. mayo and mustard dressing with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well. I then put slices of eggs on top.

  2. My aunt taught me to cook up some bacon and crumble it then pour the bacon grease over the hot potatoes. She also poured a little of the pickle juice on those hot potatoes too. Always a basic mayo (not dressing), a drizzle of mustard, and the usual minced onion, diced celery, chopped eggs and sweet pickles, and that crumbly bacon. Yum.

  3. I discovered my instant pot cooks the potatoes perfectly! If I have them, I like to mix up different color of potatoes.

  4. I find there are lots of versions, but the German Potato salad my mom made used a bit of bacon grease that I cook the diced onion in. Then I thicken up a concoction of vinegar, sugar, cornstarch mixed in water added in, salt, pepper. Then this is poured over the cooked diced potatoes and bacon bits that have been cooked. Hopefully this may help? My mom was famous for brining this to lots of community meals and people raved over it. I even told a classmate how to make it for his mom’s memorial. Sorry you lost your Grandma, it’s always hard to lose those we love. Hope your daughter gets hooked on quilting!!!

  5. Yummy, I make my mom’s recipe of German Potato salad. Love it! And yes lots of bacon makes it GOOD!

  6. I’m having problems with my Block 1 directions. They are in a foreign language that doesn’t use regular numbers. Can anyone help with the cutting directions? I think I can figure out the piecing part.

  7. I love potatoe salad. I cook potatoes until fork tender.Boil eggs, dice celery and onion. Add pickle relish, mustard, and spices. I mix mayonnaise with a little sugar and milk. Stir ,and add to potatoe/egg mixture.Top with boiled sliced eggs.

  8. I am stash digging, still no sewing machine! So I can at least cut out my pieces for now!
I love potatoe salad > medium size chunks with sliced up eggs, pickles, onion, mixed with Miracle Whip & mustard> topped with just a tad shake of paprika before serving!
Just might mix up a small batch tonight!😁🥔🥔🥚

  9. My Grandma’s homemade German potato salad is hands down THE BEST EVER! It took her 3 days to make. She made it for holidays and picnics. One year, she gave me a container of her sauce so I could make it at home. It just wasn’t the same. 🙁 I have her recipe, but sadly, I cannot make it taste like hers. She passed away several yrs ago. I miss her and her potato salad. Btw, this is also the Grandma who taught me how to quilt and I miss her most of all because of that. Nobody else in our Family quilts, but we had each other. My 26 y.o daughter is just showing a spark of interest in learning. So hoping the spark catches!

  10. My mother’s potato salad recipe had vinegar and oil, then mayo. I have never been able to replicate it. Who has the proportion of vinegar to oil?

  11. So glad you are feeling better & with more finger movement. Gregg is an angel in disguise.
Being Irish, we LOVE our potatoes! Potato Salad is an all-year thing in my family.
Chunky potatoes cooked in salted water. Red vinegar, sweet relish, diced yellow onion and celery with lots of pepper. Only Best Foods/Hellman’s mayo used. My sister add tons of mustard and hard-boiled eggs.
Wish it if you can share your Mother-In-Law’s recipe!!!

  12. Potato Salad…no matter the recipe you use, if you dice a granny smith apple really small and mix it in, it adds the absolute best crunch and flavor!

  13. Warmer Kartofelsalat (German Potato Salad) is my specialty. A friend in politics once told me he had been to a “rubber chicken dinner” where they served German Potato Salad. He said, “It wasn’t as good as yours, because they didn’t put ten pounds of bacon in it!”

  14. My potato salad is heavy on eggs! I use double-yolk eggs and chop them very fine. Miracle Whip, a dash of dijon mustard, green onions, salt & pepper.
Yum! Off to make some now!

  15. I like potato salad now – not as a kid though. I make mine with Miracle Whip, potatoes, onions, green peppers, celery and radishes – NO eggs. I guess it is pretty basic, but we like it this way.

  16. Our Virginia
family loves a eggy popato salad. I boil an egg for every two medium potatoes. we use a vinagar based mayo.(Dukes) and a little bit of mustard. we like the chunky sweet pickles, but chop up only half onion very very small. garlic powder and plenty of salt and pepper. Don’t forget to boil potatoes with plenty of salt.

  17. Hi Lillian, the download for the pattern is highlighted in pink near the end of the post. It tells you what number the block is & it’s name. Just touching the highlighted area will take you to the pattern & instructions.

  18. My attempts at potato salad has resulted in mashed potatoes with “salad stuff” in it. However my mom used to make hers from baked potatoes instead of boiled. Then she would add mayo, mustard, celery, egg, and garlic powder and salt. Chill it and I could eat just potato salad. My other mom made it with boiled potatoes (salted water) pickles, onions, mayo, mustard. 36 years people have tried teaching me because southern mustard potato salad is his favorite. Some things he gives me a pass.

  19. I love potato salad! I use potatoes, boiled eggs, celery, pickle relish, and mayonnaise. Pepper, but no salt. My problem is that I am always afraid that I will over cook my potatoes. I am so glad you have one lighter weight cast. Love the color of that cast! Hope the remainder of your recovery is speedy.

  20. I used a homemade cooked dressing on my potato salad. Then I throw in everything else-eggs, onion, celery, green pepper, celery seed, pepper, and add hot dressing to it. I don’t add salt as I have a blood pressure problem and others can add salt. Never thought about using shrimp boil as Ramona said!

  21. I make a fairly basic potato salad; like it chunky with minced onion, celery, chopped green oluves, pimento and mixed together with half mayonnaise and half sour cream – no eggs! Salt, pepper, cayenne, garlic powder for seasoning.

  22. I have a terrible time finding your downloads of patterns. Is there a secret to finding them?
Would it be possible to make a notice like
    “ download pattern 2 here “
    I need help 🥴
