FREE Studio Time Block 13 Solstice Sew Along with Pat

We are officially over the middle of the project .. block wise! Block 13 is ‘Studio Time’ and we have 12 blocks more for my Solstice quilt! I think I’m obsessed with seeing how the blocks look in repeat.. you’ll find another below

I’m combining a 9-patch center with smaller HST units for a variation on a traditional block. Normally the HST would be the same size as the 9-patch squares, but if you do that for a 12″ block the numbers get funky and honestly I’m not about that. Give me 1/2″ increments and I’m a happy camper.

If I reverse the colorway of the block and set them side by side, it creates an new design at the intersection.. isn’t that neat!

I have a several goals for my I Love to Make Quilt’s website..

  • Host Free Sew Alongs because it’s so fun to sew with others!
  • Design Blocks that are easy to do
  • Create Blocks that use up scraps so we have space for new fabric (OH YEAH!)
  • Show you how Quilts made with one block are amazing in repeat
  • And give you ideas for how blocks look in many colors, which is where YOUR photos at the end come in!

I want to share the newest Moda All Star books! Each Quilt uses Charm packs as is.. with an added fabric. One, Two or three! Mine uses two and it’s on that stack.. hint.. I LOVE dots…  PLUS all the Moda All Star books support charity, this one is for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, I’m honored to be part of it.

And what could be better than charm packs? Charm Packs on sale! See the latest sale charms and pick some up to go with the book! You want a regular charm the 5″ squares. Mini’s are 2.5″ and not used in this book.

There are lots of books with quilt blocks and I collect as many as I can! Plus the EQ Software has blocks if you like to do computer designing.

I’ve been playing with the bloc-loc rulers and they are really neat. I like the Flying geese unit too for making square in a square.

  1. Pat, would it be simpler to make to side pieces 2″x 9.5″ and add flipped corners (2″ sq.) on each end? That would totally eliminate the HST. Just a suggestion. Thanks for all the great patterns. Working to keep up.

  2. Hi Pat do you happen to know the name of the fabric Serena Kim (no 36 photo) uses, she posts regularly with her blocks, and I really like her fabrics. thank you for your help

  3. Hi Pat…..Loving this BOW…..Thinking ahead to finishing it & would like to know how much fabric is needed for the checkered sections in your setting……Thanks

  4. Thank you Pat for another great block. I love to see all the samples each week of what people have made, they help me see what I can do with the fabrics I have – I am not so clever at matching or visualising the combinations.
