There are so many different topics we can do for Grandma’s Kitchen, and I’ve loved making a list, reading your ideas and selecting a topic each week. This time someone at my online group shared  a photo of her grandma in the Kitchen Window.. perfect right!

AND READ TO the end to FIND my favorite novelties for this!

Inside the pattern I describe both my grandma’s kitchen windows. I think i would accurately sketch their homes from memory. When I was very little we lived one state away so saw them a lot.

The windows in a kitchen are pretty important… this made me think about the windows in the homes I lived in, the apartment’s I’ve lived in and now the home I’ve had. We might take that window for granted, but back in the say, grandma spent quite a bit of time near the window. For my ‘sort of modern’ granny it was at the sink or in the case of my not modern Na-Na it was a huge feature at the end of the kitchen.

I am using these design boards to keep track as I sew. It really helps me so I don’t twist & turn pieces by accident which is very important with this one!

The Block technique I used is a ‘faux’ mitered corner, using a HST. If you happen to be the ‘Queen of Mitered Corners’ go right ahead and do them! Not sure how, I spotted this great tutorial.

This block is one of the very first I did years ago. I love finding a great print or series of fabrics to showcase. You might have a great holiday print or

Down below I’ve listed some great Novelty LOVE that I spotted! Some day I’ll tell you about my obsession with novelty prints.. interested?

She’s been gone over 40 years, but with your sew along, it’s bringing back memories. I have her mother’s 1910 Treadle Singer in my kitchen! On the giveaway, the pattern and blue fabric look luscious! 5. Whenever I think of my Nana I remember her breakfast nook. I still have the small 30 x40
inch table that sat in it with 4 chairs for her and Grandpa to have breakfast every morning. Another fond memory, is of Grandpa feeding this one squirrel that would come to
the side door and hang on the screen until he gave it some nuts. Grandpa named it Cupcake.
Then of course there were milk chutes too for home delivery.
