FIRST did you MISS my first jelly roll giveaway? you have time to enter the 2nd one HERE, and there will be another on Saturday! Go ahead and enter, I’ll wait for you to come back.. .
Now onto… Doors…. our homes, and our memories include them. They may be important.. they may not be.. but take a little dig into your memories….
Do you have a Kitchen door now? As a kid? maybe grandma had them, maybe not? I wish I had photos of the doors in my home. The shipping department over the years has taken photos of mundane things like that, which over time, are really not mundane. They are the little pieces that make up our whole life.
In the pattern below, I tell you the full story of my Kitchen Doors… and some tips on color going forward.. so read on!

This is the point in the project where I really start looking at color placement.
Put out all your blocks. This is what You can look for
- Is there a particular fabric or color that sticks out, but it’s the only one of that color or fabric and it’s kind of bold. Maybe a pop of orange in a block. Now is the time to be sure it has some friends. Add in more of that color or fabric as you make the rest of the blocks.
- Do you like the colors at this point? yes.. great!
- But what if you don’t? I ask myself a few things.. WHY don’t I like it? Too bold? Too mushy? Too bland? Not enough calm area for my eye to rest? maybe TOO much calm and it needs a spark. Take some fabric swatches & place them on the project & see if you like adding that in or taking it away.
- Is ONE block bothering you… still? Remove it from photo. Do the rest now look much better? Then figure out what is wrong with that one and redo it.
I know many of you would like the setting, but I have not been able to work on it. I have about 1/2 of it drawn, but that is a long ways from having a pattern for you. With my free weekly project that is just how it will be. I will get it done, but I need time to design it.
I’m also behind on my own 2nd colorway, which does not bother me, I’ll work on it when I can!

I remember my Aunts front porch with steps up to the front door. My cousins and I would set on those steps every time we came. They were warm being in Fresno, CA. I recently went by that house with my cousin. She has lived within 4 blocks of her original home all her life. She is now 70.
My best memmory is of a door is the door bell on the front door! It was built right into I the door and was very ornate with a big knob shaped like a wing but! You just turned it and it had the loudest ding! Kinda like the bell on a bike! The grand kids played with it all the time! Grandma did like it but grampa thought it was great fun! We even tried to play it like an instruments! You could turn it both ways and some of us got good at playing a song on the door bell! Sadly grandmas house was torn down this past summer! Wish I had known would love to that bell! I posted a pick of all my dad’s family posing in from to that door! Circa 1944! Also I found a picture of a bell that kinda looked like that bell on mine!
My latest quilt is a panel for a baby girl coming in November. I often use jelly rolls for the binding strips !!
My last completed quilt was made especially for my mom, but I currently have quilts in the works for my sister, my husband and my three sons! I love options.
Last year at this time, I made a really cute mug mat for my boss. It was made from a 5″ Hexie of witch legs (striped orange and black stockings)and a cute word “Bewitched”. That center was surrounded by more H’ween fabrics. I quilted it and put on a cool binding to match the stockings.
Gave it to her at work the next day — and, since H’ween is her favorite holiday, and that morning was particularly stressful, I also brought her a nice hot mug of her fav coffee “Jet Fuel”. She was thrilled (She’s a good boss!!)
Am planning on making her another “little quilt” this year.
I made my last quilt for my daughter. I love jelly rolls and made a quilt for my granddaughter who was born last year.
The last quilt I gave away was to my husband for your 40th wedding anniversary this past August. It was a baseball print quilt. He has coached high school baseball for over 17 years and loves the game dearly.
I love jelly rolls for the many strip type quilts. My last quilt was a gator quilt for my SIL.
The last quilt I made was for my Mom, I had used my Dads clothing as he had just passed.
The last quilt that I made was for my nephew and his wife that are expecting a baby in December around Christmas. It was made with flannels in light teal, yellow and white. They loved it! The quilt before that I made for my dad. He has two grandchildren that graduated from Iowa State University and two that graduated from University of Iowa. So I made the “I” quilt pattern using both college fabrics! He loved it!!!
I’ve never done a jelly roll quilt but qould love to try one
Loving the grandma kitchen sew along. Thanks
Love the colors in that jelly roll!
I’m just now finishing up a baby quilt for my son to give to a co-worker who recently had a baby. It’s a cute tumbler with sea life on some of the materials that i’ve had for a couple years. It’s turned out so nice, I’m excited to finish the quilting, which I’m doing on my domestic machine.
I used a jelly roll to do many of my blocks for the Splendid Sampler. It also gave me gave my blocks continuity through out the quilt. The the 2.5 inch size was perfect for the small amounts of fabric needed to complete the 6.5 X 6.5 blocks. Thanks Pat
Thanks for sharing your creativity with us!
Thanks for posting where to comment on your FB post, otherwise I would have missed out! My first quilt I made was for our daughter and now I’m working on a jelly roll quilt for our 10yr wedding anniversary gift. This jelly roll could come in handy! 😍
Mornin Pat,
I’m in for the win please!🌈🌈. 🎉🎉
The last quilt I made (am still quilting) fir my grandson – I love jelly rolls- which pattern I use depends on who/what it’s for and how fast it needs to be done.
The last quilt I made was for my mother that loves to sew but was in the hospital recovering from a stroke. She loved seeing it on her bed and feeling it. When she came home we made one together. She told me what squares to sew together. Now shes back to making her own. Her name is Maggie.
I just finished making a quilt for my daughter’s 30th birthday. She will get it in Sept 24! Hope she likes it! I’m sitting in my other daughter’s living room right now, within a mile of the hospital, awaiting the call that my newest grandchild is born so I can run over and meet him! I would love a jelly roll to make a quilt for the newest member of our family!
My last quilt is for an upcoming baby shower. It is their first baby and they are not finding out the sex of the baby before. Love it!!
Would love a jelly roll to try out, never used them before, on my next quilt!!
Love Moda fabrics!!!!
The last quilt I made was for my dear friends wedding. It was Hawaiian themed because we celebrated my 50th birthday together in Hawai’i in 1998! We’ve been friends since I was in junior high. Wow, that’s a long time. Love you Laurie!
the last quilt I made was a jelly roll quilt for me!!!!
The last quilt I made was for my grandson. He cuddles in this during the winter months we have up here in Yellowknife
The last quilt I made was for my nephew and his new wife. They were married this summer so I’m a little behind. It’s turning out beautifully though and hopefully worth the wait!
Last quilt I made was a wedding gift for the daughter of a very dear friend who passed from cancer just months before the wedding. At least she got to suggest a style & she knew I was making it. The bride’s thank you made me cry. She wrote “receiving it right before my wedding was not only a beautiful gift from you but a reminder of my mom which is what I needed.” So glad I did this!
Hi Pat, the last quilt I made was for my Great Niece, Alexandria who had significant spinal fusion surgery at Children’s Hospital in Boston 8/31. She took her quilt along while she was in the hospital:)I want to do a jellyroll quilt next!

The last quilt I made was for a raffle fundraiser for our community hall, it’s needing some upkeep. It was a patriotic quilt.
I have not made my first quilt as of yet, but plan to start soon as I will be joining my local Quilt Guild. I plan on making quilts for the preemies at our local hospital. It’s one of the charities that the Quilt Guild does. I would like to make a quilt for my mom as well. My mom will be 86 in January and she loves anything hand made. I made her a card last year (through a talented paper crafter who provides classes) and she was so appreciated that I took the time and effort to make it. I know that you do not ship prizes to Canadian addresses, but if my name should be pulled there is a Hardware Store in Maine that is not too far from my location that accepts parcels for us and then we make a trip across the boarder for pickup.
I wade my last quilt, a 3 generation quilt (squares made by my Grandma and Mom, and finished by me), for myself. I know it may be selfish, but I feel like they are with me when I see it every day.
I made my last quilt, a jelly roll quilt, for my ” yankee mom” Roz…who was my mothers best friend and when my mother got sick a few years ago, and ” went away” so to speak, Roz became my yankee mom for me to talk to. I went up to Baltimore thus summer to see her and took the quilt to her as a ” hug” from me!
I last made a quilt for my niece using her tshirts. A jelly roll would work great for the dashing between blocks. Thanks!
