Are you going to sew with me? It’s Quilt Day!

The third Saturday in March is Quilt day each year!  What better excuse is there than to gather a group of friends and sew all day long?

To celebrate national quilt day, my friend Katy Jones from Crafters Companion made my Zig Zag table runner using her Gemini die cutter and build a block dies with some of her leftover scraps from my ‘A Flower Bouquet’ weekly sew along  Isn’t it fun how a pattern can look so different when you change up the fabrics?

My runner is perfect for a spring table display, with a vase of tulips or daffodils and a plate of fresh baked cookies for those friends who are coming over to sew with you on national quilt day!

  1. I found a few free download ones of yours I will try. I had started an octagon in strips don’t think I should have done it that way. This is the first one I started. I have 6 long strips. I bought a 4 pack of octagon templates so thinking. I will pull strips out go with a smaller template.

  2. My favorite quilt is a square in a square that I made at a local quilt shop class while caring for my father with Alzheimer’s. It is lap sized and machine quilted with stitch in a ditch method.

  3. Going to quilt a Christmas quilt I’m making for my grand daughter. I’m using a crushed velour as the backing. No batting! I’ve done this before and I really like how it works out. The velour has a streach so you have to quilt it all down in one direction and then I go back and do my magic with decrotive stitches!

  4. I am working on Oh My Stars baby quilt. My first Pat Sloan project. I have really enjoyed your pattern and will try soon to do one of your qals. Thank You.

  5. I love the #1 fabric group. Of course, because it’s red & white & aqua, etc. What can I say. I’m so predictable, although in college an instructor told me once that I was predictably unpredictable. Whatever that means, right?

  6. I have enjoyed talking to one of some quilt friends and sharing ideas. I do sew alone but would love to have someone close to quilt with. Love your FB group and community. Safe travels!

  7. Have been working on a challenge quilt for our guild; due May 1st. Has been a lovely day for cutting and sewing. Plan on working on the Zig Zag pattern tomorrow.

  8. When my mom died three years ago, I found 14 sets of embroidered blocks she had made. My sister Karol and I decided to keep certain sets. The rest we intend to make into quilts for our cousins who might want one. I am working on a surprise lap size quilt that had embroidered snowmen on the blocks for my cousin who loves snow people. I have borders left to put on it and quilt it. My cousin always comes to visit me in April so I want to give it to her then.

  9. I’m joining in late but had to say the mice are the most! I spent the day making the fat 1/4 shop heart wall hanging. “Piece, Love and Quilting” just needs the binding hemmed on the back. Can’t beat a day set aside for quilting with all the quilters in the world!

  10. Spending my day catching up on a couple Splendid Sampler blocks. Received my sewing cart today which is similar to yours, Pat.
Put it together this morning and by noon wondered how I ever managed without it! Everything I need is so handy wherever I
decide I want to sew. We named it “My Sewing Buddy”.

  11. Love the mice fabric. Working on a wall hanging of blocks of birds sitting in a tree that goes together into one tree. I would show it, but would not be able to tell anyone were I bought the fabric. A number of years ago.First one I have made for myself in years. Thanks pat for all your online instructions. 🌷

  12. Making a back for an Easter wall hanging and hand sewing some details on it. Making a label for a jelly roll gift quilt. Am so sad my Oliso irons which I got from one of your links quit working. The little feet will not go down so I cannot press or iron. Don’t have the box or receipt and the iron is less than a year old. Oh, well. Now getting used to an old regular iron and trying to remember to stand it up! The fabric you are featuring is darling!

  13. Got my first 2 quarters of Flower Garden put together and attached to each other with sashing. This is my first sew along and I am loving it!

  14. Worked on 2 UFOs and feeling good !!! But I fell in love with the darling mice fabric!!!! I must add to my stash!!!

  15. Hi Pat, enjoying quilt day by getting the first two quarters of my flower bouquet sewn together…really pleased with it!
