Have you been dying to know about the BIGGEST block in my Solstice challenge?
I can’t wait to see what you do with this block… and I have bonuses.. let’s get to it!

“Among The Stars” is super sized, which is bigger than Upsized! at 32″ finished you can make a dent in your scraps by making several Super Sized blocks for full quilts!

Block 9 repeated is going to be so fun! In the pattern I give you a 2nd diagram of a 3 x 3 setting which is BIG!

How can you do a 12″ block from this? Take one 4patch unit (in the pattern) and sew a 2.5″ wide strip to all for sides for a 12.5″ block. EASY!

Esquece. Estou cancelando minha assinatura.
Really like your block 9!!! It’s also very nice to see how different everyone’s blocks are. I’m enjoying this! 😊
Here is the link to the list of blocks, if it helps 🙂

Judy, go to the top of the website page here and select
LIST of PRIOR BLOCKS. This will take you to a page with the blocks shown that has been done:
SELECT the BLOCK NAME and that will take you to the pattern. Such as CHURN DASH is number one.
Hope that helps!

I, too, am wondering if the big 32 ” block is meant to fit with the rest of the Solstice quilt block to make the overall quilt??
You can make each HST be 2 inches and when finished 1.5 inches. And you can have exactly the same pattern and look just smaller.
Light Fabrics
· Cut 32 square 1.5” x 1.5”
· Cut 16 square 2” x 2” for HST units
Dark Fabrics
· Cut 16 square 2” x 2” for HST units
Sew the 2” dark and light squares
Make 32 units – trim to 1.5” square
These will be small units to sew however you can have the look…I have been making 2 sets of each block and plan to make one that is will be 12.5 unfinished.
Marlene… I absolutely love how 3 dimensional your block turned into.
Just finished Block #8. May I say that I’m in Love with appliqué now! Hope to get on cutting Block #9 tonight so I can sew tomorrow!e
Is this the very large block in the center of the quilt?
Just downloaded Block 9 to iBooks and emailed to PC so I can print. Unfortunately I have to wait until tomorrow to print as hubby has taken the computer apart. I will use my iPad to choose fabrics and get cutting. This is going to be so much fun. Thanks Pat.
Ah my machine is in the shop! But I am finished up to block 8, so I will have this one all cut and catch up next week.
Pat, this is so much fun.
Are we allowed to change/eliminate a HST and make it part of the background instead? TIA
Hi Becki,
I’m sure your friends on Facebook are enjoying your quilt block posts but if you want the rest of us to see them, yes, you must follow the links where the other pictures are and add it to this page. 😉
Hi Barbara, I couldn’t figure it out either until I looked at the photograph that Debbie B posted and now it comes together in my mind!
It looks like if you look at the center of the big block and use the nine squares in the middle, like a nine patch, that’s what you use for your 12 1/2 inch block, then add the border like Pat said. I hope that helps you. 😃
Thanks for the posting Debbie B!!
Hola. ¡Qué bloque tan grande! Es una preciosidad. A ver si se me cura ya la pierna y puedo hacerlo porque debe ser WOW! Saludos
Question, am I supposed to be posting my finished blocks here or? I’ve been putting them on my fb page…that probably isn’t right, huh?
This must be that huge center block in the layout? lol, my hate/love of triangles.
I’m trying to figure out where block #9 will fit in the layout. I love it, and have too many ideas of what fabrics I could use, so thought if I knew where it would in the layout it might help me narrow down my choices. Thanks!
WOW I have ever done a single block this big! I am just starting to feel better so I want to catch up 🙂 Thanks for this great quilt!
For some reason, when I’m printing block 9 directions, it is only printing the pictures and none of the directions. Any ideas why?
Debbie B just posted her 12.5″ block above. with Pat and Mary’s post and Debbie’s picture that should help you out 🙂
Thank you Pat, I’m enjoying such a varied and interesting challenge!
How can you do a 12″ block from this? Take one 4patch unit (in the pattern) and sew a 2.5″ wide strip to all for sides for a 12.5″ block. EASY!
I just st finished about 2 hours aga too, was fun😀
Thanks so much Pat♥
I think This one I will do in a full size quilt liked it and it looks cool and it is helping me get better with my points
I’m making the 12.5 x 12.5 block I don’t understand how to do it. You usually show a separate picture on how to do it? Please explain. Thank you
can’t wait to see YOUR block Lisa!

Jackie there are 182 days between the start of the Winter Solstice & the Summer Solstice. we ar sewing for 182 days.. it is not a block or piece number
Fun! I just finished a Block 8 about two hours ago…appropriate for a Valentine’s Day! I will be choosing fabrics for block 9 tonight!
I wasn’t thinking there were 182 pieces in this block. That’s for another block. You make quilting fun.
Love this one! So many opportunities with color choices! Have fun ladies! Can’t wait to see your finished blocks!
